About to start La Belle Sauvage too! Quite a hefty hardback for my commute but too excited about it to mind.

I read another of Pullman's children's books, Clockwork, last week, as my son brought it home. It was great.

Toyah (rockabillybibiliophile) | 275 comments Just finished Alice by Christina Henry, and halfway through Shirley Jackson The Haunting of Hill House

Toyah (rockabillybibiliophile) | 275 comments I finished The Haunting of Hill House and I'm now on Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, with The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists on the side.

Halfway through The Islamic Enlightenment: The Modern Struggle Between Faith and Reason which is quite dense so read The Furthest Station and Zoology as a breather

Joy Stephenson (joyfrankie) | 463 comments I’m reading The House of Hidden Mothers, a story of paid surrogacy. I love Meera Syal’s characters -they are complex and feel real. I was so pleased to find this in the library as I didn’t know she’d published a third novel.

Toyah (rockabillybibiliophile) | 275 comments Having just finished Norwegian Wood for my book group next month I was going to move on to the January book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, but I need cheering up so it might have to be a Tom Holt for some light relief!

Toyah (rockabillybibiliophile) | 275 comments I'm currently reading Terry Pratchett's The Light Fantastic, and I'm starting I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings prematurely for my next month's book group read :)

Sam Austin (samaustin) | 16 comments I'm reading Carry On. I loved Fangirl by the same author, but Carry On just isn't shaping up. There are some interesting parts, but so much telling instead of showing. I'm fine with some telling. Sometimes it's necessary. But this is extreme. The first few chapters were backstory.

And yet I'm still going to finish it. It is starting to get better now I'm in the middle, and I am a little obsessive about finishing books I start.

Jan Notzon | 261 comments Actually, I've just recently started Emma. I'm enjoying it a great deal. I wonder if I just like it so much better than Pride and Prejudice because it actually is better or if I'm just a better reader than I was two or three years ago.
