Aw, shucks... Thanks, Marie! I think you just made my day. :-D

I feel for you on the moving front. I moved into my current apartment five years ago (I can't believe this is my 5th summer there!), and packing all the books was difficult. I had to leave out several I really wanted to read to tide me over until I got settled and boxes unpacked. My sister gave me a hard time for how much "stuff" I had (lots of books and crafting materials), even though she knew I'd made several trips to Goodwill and threw a lot of stuff out during the months leading up to the move.

I also amassed two boxes of books to donate to the library's used book sale during the course of packing/unpacking. I prefer to donate the books I don't want to the library or a Little Free Library rather than try to resell them, as you don't get enough to make it worth while from the local UBS, and at least with the library I know what little money they raise goes to a good cause.

MarieBL Broussard-Landry (marie_broussard-landry) | 350 comments Heather, you are welcome! You deserve many kudos for your hard work. I have managed online classes in the past. That was a manageable number of students, but still a lot of work. We here are a huge group, and yet you manage everything, and make it "appear" easy. But it's not! :)

Thanks for your understanding moving comments! Your sister and mine are alike. When my sister helped me move several years ago, she gave me a hard time about all my "stuff" (my books, hobbies, and videos; and a large set of books, games and videos I kept for my nieces and nephews when they stayed with me). I've done a little better since. Before I buy anything, I imagine myself moving and having to take it with me! And I do most of my reading on my iPad now, very portable! Many of my nieces and nephews are grown, so I am passing along those toys and books to families with young children.

I still have many things to go through, but audiobooks save me! I can listen while I sort clothes, books and papers, and it makes the work easier!

Good for you for donating the books to libraries! As a former librarian, I know that most of them do not have sufficient funding, and can use donations.

Happy Friday :)

So how's everyone doing on their reading goals? I am currently 52/85, or 3-2/3 books ahead. Yes, I finally got ahead! Now to keep that up through the end of the year...

message 104: by Tammie (new)

Tammie Lagimodiere | 14 comments I set my goal at 25 books in January and by April I had to change it as I was at 24/25 so I changed my goal to 50 and I am at 30/50 at this rate I may have to change my goal again......here's hoping......God bless and have a great day

message 105: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1412 comments I'm at about the same level as you, Heather. I have completed 52 out of 80 books so far. I'm a little bit ahead right now but I know how those last last 2 months of the year usually turn out.

message 106: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Just increased my goal so I am at 50/60.

message 107: by Gary (new)

Gary Sundell | 2274 comments My original goal was 50, I upped it to 55 to match last year's goal. I am now at 56 and partway into books 57, 58, and 59.

message 108: by Beverly (last edited Aug 01, 2017 09:25PM) (new)

Beverly (bjbixlerhotmailcom) | 2332 comments 1170 of 1500. But, I am a children's librarian, and many of those books are picture books, which I read for my job. I read several picture books almost every day. Some of the books are children's chapter books, and the rest are adult books.

message 109: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments 55/90, 3 ahead!

I would love to have your job, Beverly! :-P

message 111: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8980 comments 74/110 or 11 books ahead! Not quite sure how that happened but I'll take it!

message 112: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 423 comments Mine's crawled up to 300 now, of which I've read 190, so I'm 16 books ahead. However, I may slow down when I try to finish Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (which I began months ago) on my holiday, and I've got to read Middlemarch for my book club after that.

message 113: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 88 comments I'm at 71/100 (13 books ahead). That will definitely change. I just started Hawaii by James A. Michener. It will take me a while to get through it.

message 114: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cindypp) | 168 comments My goal was 75, but I have surpassed that and have read 160. I read anything though so there are a couple picture books, there are a lot of graphic novels, and some middle grade included. Right now I am reading Fatal Frost by Karen MacInerney, Killer Librarian by Mary Lou Kirwin, and Spell Booked by Joyce Lavene.

This was my first Michener which I read in high school. One of my girlfriends had highlited the "dirty" parts and everyone in my crowd ended up reading her copy. I seem to recall the so called "dirty" parts were sooo not "Dirty!". LOL enjoy!

I really enjoy Michener and his more modern contemporaries Edward Rutherfurd or Ken Follett. I usually wait to read a book by one of them (or a similar weighty book) until after midway through the year when I'm ahead on my goal.

I've got Caribbean on my TBR shelves but I just keep looking at it. I did read The Goldfinch this year but I don't seem to want to reach for Michener. Of course, if the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire were released I'd have no problem reading a 1,000+ page book so I have no excuse for not reading Caribbean.

message 118: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 1887 comments I'm 4 books ahead of schedule at 66%. I've been behind for most of the year, so this is encouraging. I've been in the reading doldrums, doing mostly audiobooks because of health problems. I did a complete relisten of all 7 Outlander books, all of which are Big Books, but I love them, so that took some time, and I don't count rereads towards my goal. I know I could, but that's just my personal choice.

message 119: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Meredith Mine is set to 25, I have such a crazy schedule but I am already ahead on my list so now I am hoping I can beat that!

message 120: by Madara (new)

Madara (madara_r) Hi all! I am new here, but wanted to join in the conversation. I too have set the target at 100, a score I have been trying to reach for 8 years! Think I can manage it this year, thanks to GoodReads, because it allows me to track and monitor, and appeals to my competitive spirit! Earlier I kept forgetting to update my progress because I would read on the go and never remember to note it down.

Good luck with your challenge and welcome to the group, Madara!

Looks like everyone is doing well with their challenges so far. Keep it up! :)

message 122: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 1887 comments 6 books ahead of schedule at 78% read. I set my goal lower this year since I didn't meet last year's goal. I'm at 39/50, a lot less than most of you are reading. Just don't have the mojo this year!

message 123: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments I am at 64/70 after increasing my goal again and I'm finding this works much better for me than setting a high goal and then feeling pressured to reach it. I started with a goal of 30 and have been increasing as I read and get within a book or two of current goal.

message 124: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4153 comments Mod
I am at 129/200. I think this year I won't reach my goal but we will see.

message 125: by Kait (new)

Kait Carson | 182 comments Oh, I am so far behind...20/50 but I've got three going right now and I'm like the little engine that could...I think I can, I think I can. My schedule has been crazy this year!

message 126: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 44987 comments I'm so far behind too. I normally read over a 100 books a year and will get no where near that so I changed it to 75 and I'm still 6 behind schedule. But in my defense we did move from MA to FL, sold a house and 3 cars. We are still unpacking.

message 127: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1412 comments Wow, Paula, that is a lot going on for one year. I wouldn't be able to get any reading done under your circumstances.

message 128: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1412 comments I have finished 62 with a goal of 80 books. I am a bit ahead of schedule but my reading slows down during the holidays so I'll most likely be right on target.

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 44987 comments Julesy wrote: "Wow, Paula, that is a lot going on for one year. I wouldn't be able to get any reading done under your circumstances."

I do most of my reading at night. I have trouble falling asleep. Too much on my mind. I usually have 2 books going at once. A print book and an ebook for when my husband is sleeping. Reading takes me away for a little while and then I'm able to drift off.

I am currently 65/85 -- after being 4 or 5 behind for six months I am finally 8 books ahead.

message 131: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments 61/90...only 1 ahead.

message 132: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 423 comments I may have been ambitious with my last increase (to 300 from 275), as my margin is down to 2 ahead. I may have to trim my expectations, but I'll see how it goes.

October already! Currently 74/85, eleven books ahead. Actually 11-2/3 books ahead, but won't be able to finish book 75 tonight as I would like. Hopefully tomorrow...

message 134: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8980 comments I can't believe it's October already! I'm at 97/110 - 15 books ahead! I don't think I've ever done this good!

Hilary (A Wytch's Book Review) (knyttwytch) Currently on 245/217 apparently on 112% !!

message 136: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Increased my goal again so I am 73/80 and in the middle of two more books. 13 ahead

message 137: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 2324 comments Currently at 222/250 (89%)!

message 138: by Karen (new)

Karen Holman | 88 comments currently 116/150 this goal looks fine for now

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27551 comments Mod
Wow, only two months left in this year's challenge. I currently have 82/85 books completed, putting me 11 ahead of schedule. Methinks I will be upping that to 90.

message 140: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8980 comments Since I am currently reading book 110 out of 110 I went ahead and increased my challenge to 120. I went from being 17 books ahead and 99% done to only 9 books ahead and 91% complete. i guess I can't complain since I'm still ahead!

message 141: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I lowered mine since I didn't read as much as usual in September and October. 74/85

message 142: by Leona (new)

Leona (mnleona) | 156 comments I am behind by 5 books so really need to get busy.

message 143: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 44987 comments I am behind by 8 books. It's been a busy year. Selling a house and moving into another from MA to FL. A hurricane after being here less than 3 weeks, etc.

message 144: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3 comments This was my first time trying this challenge so I aimed low, 30. I've already hit that so I need to up the number for next year and really challenge myself

message 145: by Neily (new)

Neily (tardis99) | 72 comments I had set my goal very low at 10, past it, then put it at 20. I am now at 19 and hoping to read an additional 10 books before the year ends.

message 146: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4153 comments Mod
I lowered mine, as I've not read so much novellas as the previous years but I'm on track more or less (153 / 180).

message 147: by Madara (new)

Madara (madara_r) Also ahead, but only by 4 (88/100 complete). Had a week or two where I didn't read, so lead dropped. But, I realize that this amount is comfortable for me because of the crazy year I have had with my mom being sick and needing therapy for 8 months. Next year hopefully I can do 150 or 200.

message 148: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1412 comments I am currently at 79/80, so I will obviously surpass my goal probably by about 10 books or so. The reason for this is because I discovered a children's series earlier this year. I've taken on the goal of reading at least 1 book per month since there are almost 50 books in the series. Each book is very short and can be read in a day.

I will most likely increase my goal next year due to this children's series.

message 149: by Teresa (last edited Nov 07, 2017 03:14PM) (new)

Teresa | 88 comments I'm currently over my goal at 133/100. I decided not to up it and just see how many books I read this year. I'll probably set my goal higher next year.

message 150: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Well I increased again to 90 but since I'm only reading #83 I think that will be the last increase for me. This has worked out a lot better for me than last year, actually, I've read more books than last year so maybe it is better to start low and gradually increase my goal as the year goes along.
