2017 Goodreads Challenge

Thanks for your understanding moving comments! Your sister and mine are alike. When my sister helped me move several years ago, she gave me a hard time about all my "stuff" (my books, hobbies, and videos; and a large set of books, games and videos I kept for my nieces and nephews when they stayed with me). I've done a little better since. Before I buy anything, I imagine myself moving and having to take it with me! And I do most of my reading on my iPad now, very portable! Many of my nieces and nephews are grown, so I am passing along those toys and books to families with young children.
I still have many things to go through, but audiobooks save me! I can listen while I sort clothes, books and papers, and it makes the work easier!
Good for you for donating the books to libraries! As a former librarian, I know that most of them do not have sufficient funding, and can use donations.
Happy Friday :)
So how's everyone doing on their reading goals? I am currently 52/85, or 3-2/3 books ahead. Yes, I finally got ahead! Now to keep that up through the end of the year...

I would love to have your job, Beverly! :-P

This was my first Michener which I read in high school. One of my girlfriends had highlited the "dirty" parts and everyone in my crowd ended up reading her copy. I seem to recall the so called "dirty" parts were sooo not "Dirty!". LOL enjoy!

This ..."
I really enjoy Michener and his more modern contemporaries Edward Rutherfurd or Ken Follett. I usually wait to read a book by one of them (or a similar weighty book) until after midway through the year when I'm ahead on my goal.

I've got Caribbean on my TBR shelves but I just keep looking at it. I did read The Goldfinch this year but I don't seem to want to reach for Michener. Of course, if the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire were released I'd have no problem reading a 1,000+ page book so I have no excuse for not reading Caribbean.

Good luck with your challenge and welcome to the group, Madara!
Looks like everyone is doing well with their challenges so far. Keep it up! :)

I do most of my reading at night. I have trouble falling asleep. Too much on my mind. I usually have 2 books going at once. A print book and an ebook for when my husband is sleeping. Reading takes me away for a little while and then I'm able to drift off.

October already! Currently 74/85, eleven books ahead. Actually 11-2/3 books ahead, but won't be able to finish book 75 tonight as I would like. Hopefully tomorrow...

Wow, only two months left in this year's challenge. I currently have 82/85 books completed, putting me 11 ahead of schedule. Methinks I will be upping that to 90.

I lowered mine, as I've not read so much novellas as the previous years but I'm on track more or less (153 / 180).

I will most likely increase my goal next year due to this children's series.

Aw, shucks... Thanks, Marie! I think you just made my day. :-D
I feel for you on the moving front. I moved into my current apartment five years ago (I can't believe this is my 5th summer there!), and packing all the books was difficult. I had to leave out several I really wanted to read to tide me over until I got settled and boxes unpacked. My sister gave me a hard time for how much "stuff" I had (lots of books and crafting materials), even though she knew I'd made several trips to Goodwill and threw a lot of stuff out during the months leading up to the move.
I also amassed two boxes of books to donate to the library's used book sale during the course of packing/unpacking. I prefer to donate the books I don't want to the library or a Little Free Library rather than try to resell them, as you don't get enough to make it worth while from the local UBS, and at least with the library I know what little money they raise goes to a good cause.
