As of today, I am 19/82 -- which puts me two books behind. I'm not too worried, as I know I did more reading during the summer months last year. How's everyone else doing with their goal?

You can always up your goal if you reach it before the end of the year. This year I've started at 30 and I've read 19 so far (10 ahead). I'll probably increase another 10 when I get to 29 and go on that way. I'm not feeling the pressure like other years when I set a higher goal so this seems to be working for me.

LOL. I felt the same way, Sabrina. I'd see over 350 books read by a reader and I'd say to myself, "Who wants to see my puny goal?"
But we all have to start bit by bit.

I hear you both. There was a time where I could read 250+ books a year. Now, I'm lucky to hit 50. Kids, I swear, they ruined my reading life! :D

Pretty much! Between work and kids, I either get to read a lot or nothing. There seems to be no in-between.

Sabrina, you can enter books already read this year before you joined GR. All you have to do is set a date when you mark a book read for it to count towards this year. '-)

Am now 30/80 -- only one book behind. Now that all the season's finales are about over, I should do a lot more reading. I don't usually follow any summer TV series.

I set my first goal at 50, since I am late starting (I usually read at least 2 or 3 books a week). But when I entered 50, Goodreads must have automatically counted all the books I've read since starting in February. I looked through the list, and it's all books I have read this year, and was already at 50. So I hope it's OK to count those...
I changed my goal to 100! This is such fun! :)

I envy those who are ahead of their goals, especially as I am somehow two books behind again. Sigh...

You are much too hard on yourself, Heather. We are not even halfway through the year yet. Plenty, plenty, plenty of time to catch up, especially with only 2 books behind. ;-)
Julesy: I know, it just seems like the harder I try to catch up this year, the more I fall behind. :-P

Pick a low goal to feel successful. I did that first at 30.
My goal is actually lower than it was two years ago. For six consecutive years I read just over 100 books annually. Last year I lowered it to 80, due to life changes and (barely) managed a couple over that -- which is why I set my goal for 80 again this year.

I, on the other hand, might fall behind now... I finally realized that, if I am going to move this summer, I MUST read *less* and pack boxes, donate/throw things away, clean :( and shred stacks of old papers...
I just read that last sentence aloud to myself! :-\

Good strategy! ;-)

Consider yourself appreciated! :)

Last year, I upped my goal, but I had surgery that laid me up for two months. During May, I hardly read at all because of standardized testing. If I need to do so, I will up the amount. Right now, I am happy where I am at. It says I am 16 ahead of schedule, but I know that a few of the books I have to read are big tomes. (Mists of Avalon, for instance is over 800 pages)! So, I will be reading those bigger ones over the summer.
