Georgette Heyer is one of my favorite author. Her romances are so much better than most others. Great dialogue & humor.

Quirkyreader, thanks for the info about mercury - very interesting. I've finished the book and know how it ends. I don't want to be a spoiler, but without giving anything away, can anyone come up with an analogous modern story? I'm sure there are many, but the emphasis on pridefulness and snobbery may not be as blatant in a more modern story. Any ideas?
