I've set my target to 150 - but that will include several short stories/novellas. I did 156 this year, so it should be possible.I'm a bit annoyed with myself, for of the 156 books I read in 2016 only 23 were my own physical books, bought before jan. 1 st 2016 - the rest was ebooks, audiobooks, library books and newly bought books! As my pile of books at home exceeds 1000 volumes, I need to improve a bit there...
Aiming for 120 for 2017! I read 132 in 2016 and I need to cut down on my personal library at home as well.
Oh my goodness all of your goals dwarf mine. I am setting a goal of 52 books. Hopefully I can get through one book a week. I got a ridiculous amount of books in December to add to my every growing TBR list... huff** some many books so little time.
Didn't get through as many books in 2016 as 2015 (50ish vs 80ish). So I only increased from 35 to 40. Didn't help that I read a lot of ASOIAF last year and those books are MASSIVE. I think I'll eventually stabalize somewhere around 60 as I don't think I could do more than 5/mo on average.
i failed last year but will try for 20 again this year been spending more time hiking and getting back in shape but this year i will try and find more time to read as well

I know what you mean. I've been very tempted to listen to audiobooks when I go hiking, except they then interfere with my other hobby, birdwatching. Kind of hard to hear the birds when you're listening to a book. :-)

Happy 2017 everyone! Re. audiobooks: I've tried to listen to one of these while driving on the motorway, but I tend not to pay attention anymore after a while, and I lose the thread of the story. I know you can "rewind" but it is not as easy as with a real book. And I need to have the book physically in my hands, the paper, the colour (or non-colour) of the cover under my eyes, the smell of the paper under my nose :)After two years of reaching nb. 30 (before 2015 it used to be 20-25) I have set my goal at 32 (small steps are better) ... it much depends on the thickness of the books you choose though.

My problem when listening to an audiobook while driving isn't that I lose the thread of the story, I focus too much on the book and tend to lose the thread of the road! lol

I can't yell at bad drivers while I'm trying to listen to the story. I also make cakepops a lot and I've found that listening to an audiobook while doing that reduces the tedious parts and makes the time fly by.

50 has been a good number for me in the past few years. I generally spend the first part of the year concentrating on reading, then the second part of the year working on my knit and crochet Christmas gifts. Will be going for 50 again in 2017!
Charles wrote: "i failed last year but will try for 20 again this year been spending more time hiking and getting back in shape but this year i will try and find more time to read as well"Can I say I don't look at what you did as failure, but as a different focus for 2016. Good luck and if you achieved your other goal of getting back in shape then go you!
I am keeping my goal the same as last year. I have been in a major reading slump. I start books and just can't get finished...But, I picked up a reading challenge, so maybe that will help. I think my goal is 35.
I'm aiming for 70 books in 2017. Yes, audiobooks are the greatest for me. I'm listening to one right now at work. I think if more people listened to them on the road, it would reduce road rage...I'm just saying!! Happy Reading/Listening in 2017 and have fun out there. :o)
I read 217 in 2016 but set my new goal for 175. Will re evaluate in June or July if I am at 100 books then, I will up the goal. Happy reading to all of you.
I'm going with a no pressure year (I hope) so I'm starting my goal at 30 books and I'll increase as the year goes by.

Plenty of time left in the year, and we ought to remember it really is the quality not the quantity of our reading that matters most. Myself, I'm currently at 8 books ahead at 63/345.

Joseph wrote: "Plenty of time left in the year, and we ought to remember it really is the quality not the quantity of our reading that matters most."True. I just remember being 5 or 6 books ahead last year but I also had 3 or 4 DNFs this time last year too. None for this year. Life has also been very busy. I've had more days that I did not read at all in 2017 than I care to say.
For once, (I'm the kind of person who always struggles to catch up with everything, work, seeing friends, reading) I'm ahead with 3-4 books (on 32) but 1) work has been quiter in January/Early February, and 2) I'm preparing for a trip through Vietnam so I read all I could (and am taking more books about this country with me, lots of time in the plane) so I guess that's a booster). and 3) no really massive books in those read.
I'm going for 60, and attempting to read some of the physical books on my shelves rather than just Kindle books!
Why is it so hard to focus on the older, physical books on your own shelves?? I'm really trying to change my reading patterns just a little...
I am aiming for 95 books this year. I tried for 100 last year, but fell woefully short, so I made this year's goal much more realistic. ;)
78 books read and 23 books ahead of schedule (but some of them were novellas :-)I'm making space for reading some "bricks" during the Summer :-)
On May 12, I completed my challenge. I now stand at 102% having read 260 of 256 and I'm 165 books ahead. Maybe I will increase next year's challenge.
Thom wrote: "On May 12, I completed my challenge. I now stand at 102% having read 260 of 256 and I'm 165 books ahead. Maybe I will increase next year's challenge."Way to overachieve Thom! Congrats. :-)
Been keeping my goal low this year for my own peace of mind but I will increase it when I am one book away from goal.24/30 13 ahead
I completed my challenge last month. I am now at 279 of my 256 challenge. All in all, it has been a good reading year.
I read 150 in 2016. I set my goal for 80 for 2017. I've surpassed my goal this year and read 192 books. At this rate I think I should hit 300-400 by the end of the year. But I'm happy with what I've achieved so far so I can infiltrate some adulting and Tv into my schedule now lol.
Been reading more lately and now I am 37/50. I've increased my goal twice by ten since May and I'm still 14 ahead.Congratulations to everyone who has reached their goal!
3 months left in the year and I'm at 323 books completed of 345 (94%), which puts me at 62 books ahead of schedule. If I stay at this pace, I think I am going to go way past my goal.
How about you?
How about you?
Today I am proud to say I reached my goal of 345 books! And still two months left to go! I just might hit 400 if I keep this pace. :-)
