I noticed this, too, and made a comment on Goodreads Feedback. They are looking into finding a solution to fix the situation. Apparently, some glitch developed with the roll-out of the new re-read function. I lost close to 500 books - Yikes!

Did they give you a sense of whether they would be able to fix this? What a disaster. I'm down to 90 but was around 400

I also submitted a comment on the feedback group. It looks like they are trying to fix. Don't delete your challenges yet. I will let you know if they respond. When I look, i still see all the books under my challenge shelf but they are not counting in the tracker. So hopefully it will be an easy fix.

Beverly (zippymom) | 95 comments Thank you for this discussion thread--I about lost it when my count went from 193 to just 25! I couldn't figure out what I'd done wrong!!

In December we read authors Hasek through Hoeg and in April we read Infante through Kertesz. But what about the 24 books with authors Hoffman through Hyland?

The books between Hoffman and Hyland are included in December, because "Hoeg" is actually Høeg and, in the Norwegian alphabet, ø comes after y.

Oh okay. I understand now. Thanks for clearing that up.

John Seymour Cleaning the shelves of some duplicates and others that I won't re-read. I would be happy to place these in a good home:

Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens
Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert
World's End, by T.C. Boyle
If on a Winter's Night a Traveler, by Italo Calvino

Let me know if you would like one or more of the above.

This is a nice thing to do, John! I should go through my books, and see what I can part with, too.
Maybe we should set up a 1001 Craigslist style book exchange.

Or not, so far no one seems interested. :-) Of course that may just be the selections.

It is very nice of you. I own them all already otherwise would have jumped at the chance. Thanks!

The only one I don't own is the Boyle book. I have not read a Boyle yet but hear that he is a good author.

message 64: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments I just spring-cleaned my books (since we're hitting 70 today and looking at a possible snowstorm Friday).
I have the following to offer:
Possession
The Virgin in the Garden
(I tried. I really did. Just couldn't read Byatt)
The Music of Chance
On Beauty
White Noise
The Forbidden Kingdom
The River Between
The Book of Disquiet
Love's Work: A Reckoning with Life
The Passion of New Eve

If anyone is interested, send me a private message. I'm sure as I get going through more boxes, I'll find more. Lots of these were picked up at library sales and book drives, so they may not be pristine, but they read well. Except the Byatts...

Shaun from GR today said they are currently working on a fix for this problem.

The time to complete the second Labour of Hercules is now over. You can now start chasing flashy golden things in order to complete the third Labour.

John Seymour An advance note about voting for the April BOTM, which should start any day now, the following books are not eligible for the randomizer.

Lynn L | 152 comments Hello everybody,

Twice this month I've received a friend request from someone with a dubious account. Each time I declined the friend request. I am curious however are any of you experiencing something similar?

By dubious account I mean someone who doesn't have one book listed. Additionally I noticed an awkward attempt at being sexually provocative.

Yes. I've gotten a few. Others have noticed this since it's been brought up in the Goodreads feedback group. Hopefully it stops soon. I screen requests and won't accept requests from people o don't know unless we have lots of books in common

Shaun from GR said that this is officially fixed as of today. I am unable to tell, however, because I can no longer open the link without it timing out. I can open challenges in other groups, though. Is anyone else having the same problem? I even tried it using other web browsers, other servers, and other computers with the same result.

I just checked and it is fixed. It did load slow but I am on the road so not sure why it loaded slow but it didn't time out.

The time to complete the third Labour of Hercules is now over. Boar hunting is now open in order to complete the fourth Labour.
