Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments We whipper snip. I'm going to go whipper snip the garden. I wish I could. It's spring rains at the moment, everything has been wet for days since I borrowed Mum's lawn mower, and the grass is taller than me in places.

Sorry to hear that Lisa. That sounds horrible!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We never set up the flags for our wireless fence. He figured it out. They beep before they shock like I think 10 ft before the boundary or something. It beeps at an increasing rate until they hit the boundary. We could probably remove the prongs our dog knows just how much he can push the beeping. We don't have a buried line just a box in the house and it can be set to different radius's. Problem is we've had a few different ones so we don't always have it set to same boundary but since he responds tto the beeping it matters not

message 4204: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well my dog already knew about being shocked since we have a shock collar to use when training to hunt or learn commands or whatever . I don't think my current dog got the shock collar much. I only remember taking him on a training hunt one time and he only needed shocking to understand he was to point on the birds not eat the birds. He seemed to think if he could just catch them it would be easier than pointing on them so we could shoot them. We weren't actually shooting any though since it was just a training activity on some pheasants my neighbor raised

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I turned the corner and was pleasantly surprised to see that the City had plowed our street... until I saw my driveway. There was a windrow around 1-2 feet high of large chunks of packed snow and ice blocking it. I grabbed the shovel and started to dig. A guy with a front end loader came along and cleaned it. Maybe he took pity on me because not all the driveways were cleaned.

I'm already tired of winter.

message 4209: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments So glad he helped you clear it! I always hated when we would clear the driveway, then they'd block it when clearing the roads. That snow is always heavier and harder to move. So frustrating after you've already done the work to clear your driveway too.

I don't think you're lurking, Anne. You're trying to keep up with what's going on here, which is what I also do. Though I don't post very much here, I also regularly follow this thread.

I just checked and i was wrong! it is the A1 and connects London to Edinburgh (400 miles), i suppose that was to be expected though, you country is essentially the size of a continent and mine is more or less the size of a lardger apple :P

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds very wise to me Kristie, to join your husband ;-)

We're going for dinner in a michelin star restaurant tonight. I've never done that before! I always admire those dishes that look like art, and I've been saying for ages that I want to try it someday. Boyfriend isn't really into it (he likes good food but the portions need to be big and the shorter the time between courses the better) but for my birthday 20 (!) months ago he didn't know what to get me. So I suggested his gift could be to accompany (not even pay my half) to a fancy restaurant. And here we are, almist 2 years later!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's so sweet that he remembers Margo! I hope you had a nice dinner :)

Our dinner was amazing! It was exactly like masterchef, lots of different elements on your plate, some things I never heard of before, it all looked beautiful and tasted delicious. There were even some things I'm normally not a fan of, but even that was very good tonight.

I've had very good dinners before in restaurants, but this really is a different level. Amazing!

We were together with another couple so it was also very fun and cozy and nice to catch up. I want to do it again some day, maybe once a year or so.

And now that I've got eating in a michelin star restaurant off my bucketlist, I've replaced it with eating at a place like Heston Blumental's The Fat Duck. Don't think that's ever going to happen, but what good is a bucket list if it's easily achievable?

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I went to a movie with a friend and when we came out of the theatre, we were greeted by more of the white stuff. I had to brush wet heavy snow off the car and scrape the windows. That means more shovelling in the morning.

I am not amused!

Hi Lisa :)
I'm feeling okay. Just have a slight cold. I've been concentrating on the Fall Seasonal Reading Challenge. I have 4 more books to read.

Aww, Janice! That really sucks. I hate snow.
We had high and gusting winds all day here, as well as a long thunderstorm. I thought my power was going to go out.

The temps were around mid-60's, and the temperature is dropping rapidly - low is supposed to be 33 degrees F

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I think I'm getting "trial by snow". As a handsome young man said to me the other day, "consider it free exercise". I wanted to offer him the free exercise so that I could watch and enjoy.

I'd like to see "free exercise" being done by a handsome buffed guy any time :D

I've been taking cranberry supplement tablets, drinking lots so I think I'll knock it out quick, Janice.

Glad you enjoyed your meal, Peggy. Were the portion sizes really tiny or were they not too bad? Whenever I see Michelin restaurants on tv, they always seem to give you the biggest plate possible with the tiniest amount of food in the centre. You seem to spend half the time looking for it. Lol.

message 4234: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments They were on the small side, but we had two small courses to start with, then 4 courses (2 fish, 1 meat, 1 dessert) and coffee/tea with sweets. And there was also bread.

For me it was fine. I still had room when dessert came and after that I was nicely filled up. I don't like feeling stuffed and having to force the last bit in. BF said it wasn't enough for him, but he filled up on bread. And he's one of those people who can always eat, he has a never-ending stomach or something ;-)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments That sounds amazing Peggy. I am glad you enjoyed it. And the Fat Duck is completely do-able. I have friends who have booked into an gone. 12 months in advance is what I hear for needing to book (and save hehe).

Oh Janice, you are good to hold your tongue. I would have hit the guy with snark or inappropriate comments :P Sorry you will have to shovel again.

Hope you kick that cold quick, Anne. Sounds like you are blasting it with the Vitamin C.

Hope you had a lovely anniversary, Margo. We don't do anniversaries after I got the date wrong three times in our first year, Lexx got annoyed at another anniversary date, so we gave up. I know we started seeing each other around when one of his nephews was born (he cancelled to do family things when Mackenzie was born), so I measure our relationship in Mackenzie which is more reliable than my memory, as he will tell us his age when people ask how long we have been together.

Hawaii sounds like it is the sensible option, Kristie. I mean, he needs supervision to make sure he gets to work and the like with the jetlag. It's the only responsible thing to do.

We just got home from a lovely surprise dinner for my birthday that Lexx organised, at a new Japanese restaurant. Oh. Yum. I think we may have found the new favourite restaurant in town.

congrats on your 14 Mackenzie years : )

I just read the Farmer's Almanac for this area, and they predict warmer temperatures with lower precipitation than normal. The highest snowfall will be in mid-late November and mid-March. It sounds like I just have to hang tight for another little bit.
