Sarah | 18550 comments Lol. That's pretty cool you don't have to wait. Enjoy!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It does mess up my reading plans for the rest of the year. It's 1200 pages so not something to read quickly in between two other books ;-)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11297 comments Lol, Peggy. Small things is what makes life worth living. :)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Butternuts are our standard pumpkin here. We use it for everything pumpkiny. Can say butternut pumpkin makes good pumpkin pie.

And I hate soup.

Kristie | 19324 comments Thanks, everyone. The services were really great. He had time to plan out what he wanted and he was determined to make it a celebration. He had a jazz band there and chose the music himself. Eulogy was beautiful. People were laughing and crying at the same time. I was really glad that I was able to attend.

message 4009: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Sounds like the perfect send off Kristie.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Kristie, I'm sorry for your loss. ALS is an Evil disease.

I'm 90% right as rain. My MVP is under control, but I'm still Anemic and tire easily. Oh well...

I'm going to be lurking for the next few weeks because I only have 23 books to finish the Fall Season of the Seasonal Reading Challenge. I'm determined to finish - only took 5 years. I thought I could read 78 books from 9/1 - 11/30. I want to finish by Thanksgiving though. :)

message 4011: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Sorry to hear that Kristie but sounded like a great celebration of life

message 4012: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Patiently waiting for Foo fighters tickets to go on sale this morning. Concert isn't until the end if July. I guess you know you're a big band when sales start 9 months in advance.

message 4013: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Also decided Foo fighters is perfect first concert for my kids. 4, 7. Well by July I guess they'll be 5 & 7

message 4014: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh, nice Travis! I always love seeing FF live.

message 4015: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Guess I'll have to wait for resale tickets. I've been trying for an hour and I can't get anything from 2 different venues even. I'm not sure they didn't just crash Ticketmaster. Had that happen before.

message 4016: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yup, always very hard to get tickets for those kind of shows here too. Everywhere I guess. It also doesn't help that a lot of tickets are bought by people or organizations who only intend to sell them again for double the money.

message 4017: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2653 comments I'm sorry for your loss, Kristie.

Here we have that problem too. It's really bad to get tickets when you want to go to Tommorowland. That's almost impossible.

message 4018: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments At the weekend I went to London to a hypnosis convention. It was awesome. There were lots of stage hypnotists there so there were some thoroughly entertaining presentations as well as there being many of more therapeutic value. I learnt loads and came away very inspired.

message 4019: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Occasionally I watch some booktubers. Am I the only one who can't get into them. The idea of actually hearing a person speak about a book sounds more entertaining but I find I'd rather just read a review. Which I mean if you happen to be a booktubers and enjoy doing it keep doing it. I'm sure there are people who love to watch them. Apparently I'm just not one

message 4020: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Let me edit that a bit. Truth is I haven't really found a booktubers reading the same books as I do so maybe the issue is with me finding common ground

message 4021: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments I love booktubers! Not being able to read easily I get lazy sometimes and like to here peoples thoughts. If it a book I'm really thinking of buying and can't quite decide on, I turn on my text-to-speech on my kindle and listen to all my friend reviews.

message 4022: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11297 comments I tried booktubers too once. It didn't work for me either. Maybe you have to find one that you enjoy watching. Who knows.
I also took a look at instanbook (or whatever is called, I don't remember, it is instagram + book), and didn't like it either.

Margo, it makes a lot of sense in you case. I glad to know it is helpful.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Sandra, Litsy?

message 4024: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've never heard of any of those things you all mention!

message 4025: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Nov 09, 2017 05:46AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11297 comments Rusalka wrote: "Sandra, Litsy?"

Nope. It is not Litsy. It is (if I remember right) a hashtag in Instagram, #Instagrabooks, or similar, where people comment on books at the same time they post pictures of the books, generally with some kind of ambience according with the story. I heard about it in this group. A member who is not active anymore mentioned it, so I checked. I don't have a instagram account, so I am not sure how this things work. I just didn't feel attracted by the idea. It seemed to me little reviewing and too much work on the pictures, what make sense because it is instagram after all.
I will try to find it again later.

message 4027: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Booktubers are people who go on YouTube and talk about books Peggy

message 4028: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I've seen a number of different hashtags on Instagram where people post pictures of the books they're reading. I haven't participated since a lot of books that I read are either audiobooks or ebooks. A picture of my iPad might get a little boring quickly. Ha! Actually, I hardly use Instagram at all. I think I have maybe a half dozen pictures posted.

I don't get instagram. I try to avoid looking at peoples holiday snaps O_o

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I watched a couple of people on their Booktuber chats. There was one guy that I liked, but I never really got into it. It is like blogs and podcasts and everything else out there bombarding us for their share of our attention. I'd rather read a book.

I am amazed that I could find a link. It was called THUG NOTES: Classic Literature. Original Gangster He has 100+ Episodes. This is the link I have in my favorites list. You have to scroll down.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That was pretty great Cherie. I now finally understand the great Gatsby. I listened to about 10 of them

message 4032: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Oh fair enough. It's just a filing tool, like most hashtags. I use #bookstagram frequently (and #chickensofinstagram).

Doesn't have to be related to the book. Mine are just pictures of what I'm reading. Some people curate ridiculous photos, others just take a photo where they are.

I quite like instagram, but I am not a fan of booktube. Weird how that works.

message 4033: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I'm super tired! I had a great day at quilt retreat and got a lot accomplished. I had to laugh at one of my clients. I had emailed him and his operations manager to tell them I'd be away. The Op Mgr phoned and we discussed some work orders. He said, "You'll see the email soon." Ah, no I won't. He apologized vehemently for bothering me on my day off. Several hours later, my client phoned. He wasn't mad. He was being smart. "Where the hell are you?" I replied, "At quilt retreat. Where the hell are you?" We figured out a solution to his problem and he went away happy.

Ahhhh - it's nice to feel needed. ROFL! And I get to bill half an hour for two phone calls.

message 4034: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've literally just signed up to Instagram. A few hypnotists mentioned they use it and have posted information on there so I thought I'd sign up to check it out. But I don't really know whether I'll use it much. I don't fully understand it.

At least you get paid for the calls Janice. I have a nice long train journey later today. I must get all my devices sorted with power and what I want to read ready. I'm quite looking forward to it.

message 4040: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'm on Instagram but I don't think I've ever posted. Everything is things my wife tags me in. Which is why I got an account to begin with

I think it's good in some cases but not in others. Judging by some of the stuff I read on Facebook, there are clearly some people out there who should not be allowed anywhere near social media.

message 4042: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Nov 10, 2017 06:52AM) (new)

Kristie | 19324 comments I don’t have Instagram. Someone just asked me what my Instagram was so they could tag me in something. Part of me thinks I should do that. The other part of me thinks I’m just too old to start another social media account that I won’t use. I don’t know how people have so many accounts and keep current with them all. It is so time consuming. I have GR & FB that I actually use.

message 4043: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Nov 10, 2017 06:54AM) (new)

Kristie | 19324 comments I have some time to read this morning and completely forgot to charge my Kindle. Ugh. I wanted to get back to that story. Instead, it looks like I will need to go into my laptop to fix my stupid posts. My text box actually suggests changing the "I" to I️. I have to physically click on a correction.

message 4044: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I think some of them post simultaneously if you have your accounts linked.

Kristie | 19324 comments Janice wrote: "I think some of them post simultaneously if you have your accounts linked."

I hadn't considered that. Though I don't know that I ever post anything important enough to want to post in 5 different places. lol

message 4046: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I think both rusalka and I use Instagram to post pics on Twitter. I'm not sure right now. I don't have Twitter loaded on my phone

message 4047: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19324 comments Twitter... another account that I have, but don’t really use. Maybe I should just start using all these sites properly. I have Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat... never use them.

message 4048: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I only have facebook and linkedin. I have signed up for instagram and pinterest at some point years ago, but never used it then and never use it now. If I still have an account I have no idea how to access it. Twitter I never even tried.

message 4049: by Lisa (last edited Nov 10, 2017 08:33AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Apart from Goodreads, Facebook is the only one I use. I did sign up for Twitter a few years ago and used it briefly, but I don't anymore.

message 4050: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11297 comments I hace said before GR is the only social media I am active in. Never had Facebook, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Instagram. My blog has its own Twitter, but since the blog is paused now, I don't even look at it anymore.
