Lol just today. I bet you'll win another day.

Not much I don't think. And they are so genuinely surprised when they get caught. Or deny it. I mean, how on earth can you deny that?

I had to laugh at a friend's high school student who just thought he could google paste like your student, and was shocked that he was found out. My friend was like, "Kid, the internet came out while *I* was in high school. We wrote the book on using the internet for school work. We could get away with it as it was new to everyone, but your teachers grew up with it too. We have thought of everything you have, but years ago." She said the kid was so deflated. Either he'll pull his head in, or get more creative.

What's the deal with all of the bird goings on with members of this group... it seems such an unusual sort of thing.

I would never have noticed that the Bernstein Bears are male bashing books. That's sort of hilarious.

Well the cleaning plan half worked. It's a great little gadget but after a while it ran out of power. Do you think i had a clue where the charger was?! Not at all. Pulled the house apart looking for it. My hubby strolls in, opens a drawer and lo and behold there it was. I really need to lable all our chargers. There are so many :-/

LOL! Margo. You reminded me of my sister. The day before we went on our road trip, I was sitting at the kitchen table and she comes out of the back room with this box full of wires and cords and says, "look through here and see if you can find the charger for my camera." I found chargers for three different cameras, but not the one she wanted. (She found it later in the bottom of her huge purse.) She had no idea what most of the things in the box went to, but was afraid to get rid of them - because she might need them one day.

I hate buying things that have to be plugged in and charged before you can use them. They always run out of juice before you are ever done with your task. I am still using extension cords for my weed eater and hedge trimmer. The one exception is my lawn mower. No more pulling on that darn rope forever, before it will start, and no more having to take it to the repair shop every spring to have it serviced. As long as I remember to plug it in and charge it, it is always ready to go, when I am.

Janice (jamasc) | 60080 comments When I was getting ready for my weekend in Jasper last Friday, I found the charger for my camera, but not my camera. I really should finish unpacking from the move. The unpacked boxes are in danger of never getting done. This weekend.....

Margo | 11670 comments @sandra, I have only read one Kazuo Ishiguro, The Buried Giant and that was earlier this month. It was amazing and I want more. I love the idea that he writes in so many genres. I think the fact that I couldn't pronouce his name made me think I wouldn't enjoy his work it that makes any sense :-/

@cherie, your sister is so like me! And I guarentee that the minute she gets rid of a lead she will discover what it was for and need it :-D

@janise this weekend might be a bad time to start your boxes ;-p

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I've joined a bunch of groups over the years on Goodreads. Most I've not commented in or even looked at any posts as a stalker. Every now and then I get brave and exit a group. Actually my goal is to exit most of them. What is strange to me is how I'm always hesitant to leave a group. It's like I always think as soon as I leave something awesome will happen with that group and I'll miss out. Yeah. Right . The group I just left hasn't had a single comment from anyone in 4 months. Probably not gonna all of a sudden turn on the awesome factor

That's funny Travis :-D I left a group last week that has been making me mad for some time. People being very judgement over what others were reading. I actually feel a great sense of freedom. I shoulda done it years ago!

Why do people worry about what others are reading? I don't even notice unless it's something I either want to read, have read or I think looks good. There are a lot of people ready to dismiss entire genres as unreadable. The largest bias seems to be againt Sci fi, fantasy, and romance. I'm not a big romance reader myself but without it's existing as a genre we would never have Austin, to name but one.

That's what I like about group. Divesity, repect for fellow readers and fun ;-).

message 3677: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I can't recall the group. I may or may not be a member still. Group may it may not even exist anymore. Had very little activity and I can't tell you how many monthly reads I read or had previously read and made comments on only to have no one else read it. Or at best a couple people say yeah they want to read it. Then one month there was a book I'd read and given 5 stars to. A couple other people read it for once and they were really enjoying it. Then one dill hole shows up and basically attacked every person who liked the book. He hated it. Finally the mods had to come in and tell him o be civil or leave. I remember thinking, about the dill hole, who cares. It's fine to show up and explain why you didn't like it. There's 2 sides to every coin. And actually book discussions are better when the full spectrum is discussed in a civil manner

And now let me post Bully by Shinedown. Seems fitting https://youtu.be/Y7NVxAMQn_I

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I am now only a member of three groups, and YLTO is the one that I participate in the most. It's the most active and fun by far. I used to be a member of several other groups but I left them due to inactivity or rude fellow members. I got attacked from all corners in one group (which shall remain nameless) when I revealed that I don't like Harry Potter, either the books or the films. I know I'm in the minority with that opinion, but the reaction it set off was crazy! It was like World War 3! I think just about every insult that exists was thrown at me. I have no time for that kind of behaviour so I left the group pretty quickly after that. That is what I love about this group and its members. We all like different things but we always respect each other's opinions, whether we feel the same way or not.

message 3679: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Oct 07, 2017 06:11AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11302 comments I never come back to see what is going on in a group I left. I am a member of three groups now, in two of them I am very active (YLTO! is one of them, of course), and the third one I use mostly to find books.

I do not tolerate childish behavior. GR is my only "hobby" and it is supposed to be pleasurable. All those intolerant, aggressive, misfit, disturbed "readers" should go do some therapy to fix their issues.
I usually stand up by my GR friends if they are attacked in their reviews. I have a few who for some reason have their own haters. But I am never aggressive or personal in my comment. I usually just post something like "People, just read and let others read; like or dislike books and let other like or dislike books; it is not rocket science". I wish it wasn't necessary to make these comments, but I can't just see how someone I appreciate and respect in my GR world is called an idiot, or an ignorant just because he/she rated a book 1 star.

Kristie | 19327 comments What?! Lisa! How could you not like Harry Potter! You evil person! haha So crazy that people get like that over books. I've been in the minority on books many times. You like and don't like what you do. Having people yell at you for it isn't going to change your mind.

I am only a member of 4 groups now and I moderate 3 of them. lol I was a member of a few others, but I always try to participate with at least a monthly read and my monthly reading was just too much. I was starting to feel stressed over not being able to read everything I wanted to, so I left I think it was 3 groups. I actually somewhat enjoyed those groups, but I literally chose my my favorites and said goodbye to the others. I had a hard time leaving, but I haven't regretted it at all.

Janice (jamasc) | 60080 comments I was worried for a sec that you were going to say you were leaving us Travis.

I recently objected to a spoiler in another group and in doing so, caused a bit of discussion. I asked that people be respectful of others and considerate of their feelings. I was mocked for it. Several people thought the man's mockery was hilarious. I've limited my participation in the group, but will stay because they have great information about sales and offerings.

If we can't be civil to one another on sites like Goodreads, are we surprised at all the nastiness going on in the world? There needs to be critical mass of kindness, or something.

message 3688: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11670 comments Couldn't agree more Janice. Costs nothing nothing to be pleasant. If I accidentally causes offence I say sorry and learn from it. It's not possible to go through life without offending anyone, it's what you next that counts.

message 3689: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments Wow...that's awful, Janice. Too bad the mods didn't step in. It's sad that so many people nowadays seem to think that general kindness and courtesy is something to mock and laugh at.

message 3690: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60080 comments I see our group as being like family. From time to time, we have disagreements and tempers flair. Like you said, Margo, it's impossible not to have these situations arise. We as mods, do try to intervene and keep this a safe place for people to have fun. It's good to read the posts above from members who enjoy their experience here.

I didn't like the exchanges that went on and I did try to call a halt to a it. Like I said, that person should have apologiesd and deleted the comment.

Janice (jamasc) | 60080 comments Thanks Travis and Margo.

Moving on... I have an earworm. "A brand new world" from Aladdin. I went to a local production with my friend and her granddaughter tonight. I rather enjoyed it. When Aladdin and Jasmine were flying on the carpet and singing that song, the stage crew superimposed them on the carpet flying over an aerial video of Grande Prairie and the Wapiti River. It was hilarious and the audience really appreciated it. Except, I wish that song wasn't stuck in my ear now.

message 3696: by Travis (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments TRAVIS! You, sir, are a disgrace to 90s kids! You know, the song when Aladdin picks Jasmine up for the first time on the carpet. Come on.

Aladdin was when Disney movies came back. Little Mermaid came out when I was in Kindy, and then nothing. Then Beauty and the Beast came out when I was in yr 4, then Aladdin in yr 5, and the Lion King in yr 6. They just started experimenting with cad and 3D animation.

We currently have the Aladdin sheet music score sitting on our piano.

LOL! The woman who played Jasmine was visibly pregnant. Under her profile on the program, she commented that no, she wasn't smuggling a basketball, that she was expecting her first baby in January. She speculated that he would likely love the music of Aladdin since he was continually exposed to it during rehearsals and performances.
