It's at a bird of prey centre in the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire.

Yes, I love owls. I like all birds of prey tbh, but owls have always been my favourite.

This explains the difference between a macchiato, a piccolo and a cortado (which is very uncommon here. I've never seen one).

Very jealous! I love birds of prey. We handled and flew hawks while we were away in Ireland. And I got to pat and hold a couple of owls. One was only a couple of weeks old and he hatched from an egg a bit smaller than a chicken egg. This is him:

So goofy looking. I managed to get him a few times while scruffling him right in that sweet spot. He was too funny.

It was one of the highlights of the trip though, I posted a few photos of the birds we got to handle on my instagram here https://www.instagram.com/p/BXQ-m6XAh... (scroll through on the left of the photo, there's about 9 photos). Hope you have a wonderful day when you get to go for yoru birthday.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Aww, that baby owl is adorable, Rusalka! Thanks for linking your instagram photos, the birds are beautiful and it looks as though you had a great day :)

I will most likely be going for my experience day in spring of next year.

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks for the coffee link. I ordered a macchiato today topped up with milk and froth which was pretty much perfect. I think it worked out 2/3 coffee to 1/3 milk.

Love the owl pictures and you can see he loved being stroked there. Great photo :-)

message 3469: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60075 comments I love owls as well. I have lots of owl knickknacks around the house. I received an owl mug from a friend as a housewarming gift.

What is happening in Mexico is terrible. The situation is so sad and still so delicate.

This year the doctor told me that I had the disease when I was little, but I didn't know that then. You get the disease once, but it stays in the blood. So if you're having a cold or feeling abnormally tired, that's a flare of the disease that you have. The only thing I can do, when I feel abnormally tired, is rest untill it's over, but that takes a couple of days. I can't do that with my job and household, so I just sit it out and try to ignore it.

@Rus, the owl pics are so cute!

I haven't seen any news, I didn't realize there was an earthquake. Judging by your comments I'm assuming it was a very bad one. :(

LOL! It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Do you ever discuss the books you've both read and deemed to be "not stupid"?

message 3485: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I talk about lots of books. She never really tells me what books she's even reading. There are cases when we have. For instance after reading the entire wheel of Time series we discussed what we felt it all meant. I tried to do a mistborn buddy read. It was a huge flop. Everyone seemed to forget the discussion part. Probably why my wife is a Goodreads member but never actually uses it.

message 3486: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I discuss books with my partner. What i mean by that is I talk at him about the book I'm reading. Even though he isn't, hasn't or won't be reading it. I like to share. The strange thing is he listens and seems interested.

message 3487: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments That sounds a lot like my discussions with my husband, Sarah.

message 3488: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60075 comments *Chuckle* - talk AT him.

I love to talk about books and I think lots of my friends think I talk at them.

Our bookclub meets tomorrow night to discuss The Headmaster's Wager. One of our former members who had moved away was in town so we all met for lunch on Tuesday. The book got discussed then. We couldn't save it for Friday. But we tend to do that a lot. If we run into each other its, "Did you read the book yet? What did you think?"

message 3489: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11301 comments We do the same Janice, we are all from the same church and school, so we run into each other all the time. Impossible not to ask. :)

I do the same if it is a really good book. I'm sure his eyes glaze over, but its only fair since he talks about cars and racing stuff all of the time that I'm not interested in. lol

And my husband thinks pretty much everything I watch or read is weird. I like paranormal and fantasy stuff and he thinks its stupid. lol.

message 3491: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I would also have to talk at my partner and it would equal talking to a wall, so I save myself the effort. Instead, I log on to Goodreads ;-) I do tell him when I'm reading a very good book, but nothing about the content generally. I did hand over Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers a few times and instructed him to read a couple of sentences. I think he was intrigued and confused ;-)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Tonight we are having a surprise party for my mom's 70th birthday. I'm stressing out thinking about having to get everything ready this afternoon even though I'm sure we'll have plenty of time.
We are doing a sewing theme for the party and I can't wait to see how everything turns out! She loves to sew, especially quilts, so my friend is making us a quilt themed cake surrounded with cupcake flowers because she also loves to garden. I have paper plates I'm making to look like buttons to hang on the wall as a backdrop, bright yellow mums for table decoration, tiny wooden spools of thread and buttons that I'll use for something, and various neat looking sewing accessories. I'm excited to get started decorating!

Sarah | 18550 comments My nan was taken in to hospital this morning. I'm really worried about her. She's 97. She's had indigestion, felt sick and been breathless all week but wouldn't go to the doctors but she woke my dad up this morning as she couldn't breathe. The paramedics couldn't find a problem with her heart or BP but the hospital think she might have had a heart attack or heart failure or something. She's got fluid on the lungs too. She's having tests at the moment so I don't really know a huge amount other than that. I am going to drive down to see her in the morning.

Not having much luck this week. My laptop went kaput and I've had to buy a new one. I knew it was on it's way out so I knew which laptop I was going to get. It arrives this afternoon then comes the fun part of moving data across from a computer which is being slow and annoying.

message 3496: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Sep 22, 2017 07:47AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60075 comments I'm sorry to hear about your nan, Sarah. What a grand age! My mother-in-law is 98 and I know how worrisome it is when someone that age gets sick. I'll be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

I can relate with the new laptop woes, too. I just bought one last week and the keyboard is a little different. I keep typing \ whenever I go to hit the return key, and \ whenever I hit the shift key. I don't have to transfer much onto this computer. Whatever I needed is goodreads related, so I put all my documents into OneDrive and then I can access them from all my computers.

ETA - I just realized that I have two \ keys on my keyboard, like that's necessary. *sarcasm*

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments What? I have two / on my keyboard, as it is a real keyboard. One on the letters bit and one on the number pad. But who on earth needs two \ keys?

I hope your Nan is okay Sarah. Sounds like she hopefully just a few things they can help her sort out. I hope it's not anything more serious, and they are just being cautious. We found with my grandfather that people freaked out when they heard he was over 90, and got overly cautious. This pissed him off no end.

Hope your Mum enjoys her birthday party Kimey. Sounds likes heaps of fun, and that you have put in so much effort. I am sure she will love it.
