So funny :-D My goddaughter has tattos all over the right side of her body (yes literally - I did check!). She is in a rock band so it goes with the image. All I can think when I see her is 1) how painful was that and 2) what will she look like as she ages?

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yeah i always just buzzed my hair with the #1 attachment or just no attachment once I got out of school. My wife likes it a bit longer on top. My son has had a mohawk for quite a while. She'd like it to go like Corey Taylor currently has. I'm thinking it's gonna stay short except a patch in front. Ever see Phil anselmo in Pantera hay day. Actually so many kids in school were shaving their heads and leaving one part long somewhere. As the bowl cut faded out the Pantera came in. Ok so it was like 10 ppl but I went to a small school. I had ,50 kids in my class but 25-30 was the normal size. So 10 kids is quite a few

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments A lot of aging and tattoos comes to the person. Is there a major body change. Get fat and they stretch and distort and get skinny and now they're sitting on loose flesh. My uncle got one as a young marine. When he was like 80 he wasn't toned but still had a good muscle if he flexed so the tattoo wasn't too good but if he flexed it was just like new. It was funny to watch. Like writing on a balloon. I also see a lot of colored tattoos that don't stand the test if time. Not sure if it's the color or the work of the tattoo artist that doesn't hold up

.Don't know if you've seen the video of Corey Taylor bringing out his 14 year old clone to sing song #3 live but it kind of spurred the father son same hair thing for us. Griffin is good and nails the song

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments That's funny. Reminds me of a boss I used to have. Her daughter also worked at the office. One day, she came in with a planet tattooed at the top of her breast. It looked really nice. Her mother said, "It's lovely, but you do know that as you age, your breasts won't remain perky and upright. That planet is going to stretch into some oblong shape." She eventually had the tattoo lasered off.

message 3007: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments I think placement plays a big part in how tattoos look later in life. Areas such as breasts or chests and hips tend not to stand the test of time. I'm considering foot-ankle-calf, which should last a bit better. I haven't decided if I'm going to go through with it yet.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Glad you are feeling better, Janice and that everything is falling into place! Are you staying at the new house yet?

@Travis, I can totally relate to the tattoo dilemma. I decided a long time ago that I wanted one, but said I wouldn't do it until I knew 100% what I wanted. I knew I wanted something colorful and that had meaning to me, probably a quote. But deciding what took a long time and I made myself think about it for a long time before committing. I actually wasn't ready the night I had it done, but I went ahead and did it anyway. Afterwards I wished I had waited. There are several details that I'm unhappy with and actually caused a panic attack a couple of days later. I managed to convince myself that its okay though. I like it overall, I just make it a point to not look at the details I don't like. lol.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Regarding tattoos fading, exposing them to sun makes them fade faster, especially color. The quality of the ink and the person doing the tattoo makes a big difference as well as how you care for it while its healing. My sister has one that was done by a local guy that has the equipment at his home. It faded terribly after a very short time. Can't blame that one on sun either because it is never exposed.

This reminds me of the lady that said she had a tattoo of Tony the Tiger on her tush. When asked why she had Tony the Tiger she explained that it started out as an orange kitten! LOL

No. The big furniture is scheduled to be moved over at the end of the month. The electrical outlets need to be installed, and internet set up before I can move my office over. That's when we'll take the bed, dresser, couch, love seat, etc. I suppose I could sleep on the floor over there. LOL!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I remember I ordered a new bed and either it's delivery got bumped up or my house was delayed a day. Either way the bed got there a day first all I had for it was a concrete slab. Lol. Well I put it in the toolshed but as far as living quarters it got there first

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Barcelona has been hit by a suspected terror attack. A van slammed into crowds near Las Rambalas. 1 person has died so far and a further 32 have been injured, 10 of whom are in a serious condition. It sounds like someone has been arrested but their identity hasn't been revealed yet. When is this all going to stop? It's just awful!

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments Using vehicles as a weapon seems to be a trend with these terrorist attacks. To me, that's particularly unnerving, even more that people with assault weapons. Vehicles are so much a part of our daily lives that to have them used in such a manner is really scary.

I agree, Janice. It also makes it harder for security services to keep track of them as they cannot monitor everyone who drives a vehicle.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's horrible :( latest news is 13 dead and over 50 injured. I'm watching reports on it on tv now.

I have to admit that my shock is less every time something like this happens. Obviously it's still as horrific, that doesn't change, but instead of a 'what the .... did just happen?!?!' my response now is more like 'again?' It already starts to feel like something that apparently can happen in our world. It's strange and sort of scary how quickly you start to accept that this is part of our world now.

I'm starting to think the same, Peggy. It still shocks and upsets me when attacks happen, but I also think 'not again' and 'how many more times is this going to happen?' These things shouldn't happen but I really don't see any realistic way of stopping them.

message 3020: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments So sorry to see this. This is just awful that these attacks keep happening.

message 3021: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Apparently there was another attack last night in Spain but it was disrupted before it really began so not as many injured as might have been, but still 13 I believe.

On other news, I'm starting my new job on Monday! I'm very excited, despite the fact that I have to be there at 8.30am (which I know sounds like a reasonable time but is pretty early in my job) which means I have to take the 7am train and have to get up at 6. I've never had to get up that early for work!

Peggy that is a an early start. I hate having to get up that early. My hubby is a real early bird and gets up at 6am even at the weekends. e

The first of these lone wolf attacks - I can't even remember which one was first! - was so shocking but now we have come to expect them. It has become par for the course to attack pedestrians in holiday destinations. None of us is safe and there is nothing we can do about it!

message 3025: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Good luck Peggy with the new job. You'll get used to the shift in start times I'm sure but might be a bit of a shock to the system at first. I don't like getting up early all that much. I've had to this week as I've been getting w lift with my partner as we're not near any public transport routes. We've been up at 6am. Today is my day off and it was wonderful to have a lie in. Well kind of. I still woke up when my partner left especially as i was nearly falling out of bed as the boat was listing due to the water levels going down overnight. My partner had to mess about trying to level it off before he went to work. Moving tonight to civilisation which should make a nice change.

The Spain attacks as you guys have said are shocking but not like the first ones. Obviously the UK ones shook me more. Not good.

message 3027: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments It is sad that these things are becoming "normal" for us. And like someone else mentioned, cars are everywhere and easily accessible, there isn't an obvious way to thwart these types of attacks.

@Peggy, good luck on your first day! You'll adjust to getting up earlier. If you're like me, you'll never like it, but you'll get used to it. I'm up at 5:30am so I can take care of all my kids (dogs) and get myself ready so I can leave by 7:00 and be at work by 8:00. I'm usually awake around that same time on weekends too because my dogs don't understand sleeping late, but after they've pottied and had some food and/or water, they're ready to snuggle back up and sleep for a while.

The "no touching" policy must be in effect at the day care, huh Travis? My daughter told me that they had suspended a little boy when Ryan was in kindergarten, because he kept hugging the other kids when they were in line in the cafeteria.

message 3032: by Saar The Book owl (last edited Aug 19, 2017 01:12AM) (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2656 comments @Peggy: good luck on your new job!

I've never heard of a 'no touch" policy in daycare. My son went to daycare, but no problems with hugs and kisses. We need to teach our children to be loving, compasionate, etc. Now more than ever.

It is indeed sad that attacks are becoming 'normal' for people. I think that most of the people, when they go outside to an event or on a trip, think that there might be an attack where they are. You become to expect them. I still can remember the attack that took place in Brussels. I was teaching my class and the teacher came to say what happened. I immediately contacted an ex - collegue in Brussels, but she was okay. I hope there will come an end to all of this...

Right now it was a very early morning. Woke up at 5:20 a.m. to go to work for the early shift.

And I regret for a bit that I stopped my study to become a teacher, but it was too hard...On the other hand, Monday I'll sign in to learn German in evening school.

message 3033: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @Cherie - I have to ask, suspected them of what? A "no touch" policy disappoints me. Never heard of that before either like Saar. Touch is an important part of forming bonds,

message 3034: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I don't think it exists over here either.

message 3035: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Not sure it's a no touch policy but there is definitely a no sharing germs policy. So now my daughter has been in trouble for hitting people and now she's in trouble for kissing people. Geesh talk about confusing the poor kids . Not sure if there is a policy on no hugging or not to be honest

message 3036: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2656 comments Weird policy, little kids do always share germs...My son was sick every month when he went to daycare, but they're health get stronger that way. Are there consequences for your daughter?

message 3037: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's what I thought too. You have to come across 'strange' germs to be able to resist them later.

message 3038: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Is it a recent policy Travis?

message 3039: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Nope. Policy has always been there for all 7 years we've had kids there

message 3040: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Oh. No Saar I don't believe there are consequences other than being told not to do it and my wife being informed when she got there. Maybe they gave her a time out I never asked.

message 3041: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments In a world where everyone tries to protect kids from everything it's been shown that the average farm kid who is around all the farm getting dirty tend to have some of the highest immune systems. Likewise germ sharing certainly should offer some of the same benefit

message 3042: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2656 comments I agree, Travis, kids shouldn't be raised in a bubble. And the biting and kissing is just part of growing up and learning to interact with each other.

message 3043: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments The germ thing kind of makes sense. Well, if there were kids who had bugs at that time. To help limit the spread perhaps. Especially with norovirus and head lice and childhood illnesses such as measles, chickenpox etc. But not to always not be allowed to hug/kiss/hand hands etc. That's a shame. Everyone will have OCD in no time about germs etc. I know we've discussed germs before here.

message 3044: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Aug 19, 2017 09:34AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments Good grief! I can't even express how ridiculous it is to not allow kids to hug or kiss each other for fear of germs. This society today is looney toons.

People aren't born hating, but they are taught to hate, to paraphrase. What are we teaching children when they get into trouble for hugging and kissing? FFS!

I keep seeing this ridiculous meme on Facebook about "no white man today ever owned a slave, and no black man today was ever a slave..." I've been sending all those posters to a website that gives statistics on slavery today. We have working slaves, sex slaves, child slaves today in alarming numbers. Time to start de-friending some of these people on my Facebook.

message 3045: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments I've read about schools having no hugging or kissing policies, but it was in relation to sexual harassment not germs. I've read stories about children being suspended for hugging or kissing for that reason. It's a bit ridiculous when you're dealing with a six year old. They typically have no clue about sex or harassment. There needs to be a better way and some common sense.

Janice - It's sad that people are so ignorant. There are still plenty of people enslaved. It's just not on display.

message 3046: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11302 comments My kids' school has a "keep your hands to yourself" policy, but I don't know of any kid punished in any way because of that. Last year my Kindergartner's teacher told me the music teacher asked her to tell me my son had hug and kissed a friend, twice. She made clear she was just giving the message but she wasn't concerned at all. I really felt it was wrong to tell my son it was bad to kiss and hug a friend, and couldn't do it, so I didn't. I just talked to him and explained that it was important to be sure the other person was OK with being hugged and kissed, that he should be considerate with the other kids feelings, since for some kids it might be a little intimidating. And that was it.
I find terrible to do this to kids, really.

message 3047: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments The little boy that was suspended for a day at my daughter's school was caught up in a harassment issue going on at the school. A little girl had complained about being touched by other children because she didn't like it, and the parents and school all overreacted, in my opinion. The kids were all told that there was "a no touching policy" and they needed to obey the rules. Letters were sent home and informed all the parents that they were to explain the rules to their children. No holding hands. No hugging. No wrestling. No poking or slapping. No kissing. No arms around shoulders. No contact at all while they were at school or on the bus.

message 3048: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So it seems if the other kid hadnt made such a fuss my daughter probably wouldn't have gotten in trouble. I think the no touching thing is on a case by case basis apparently. Actually I think it's a keep your hands to yourself policy as well probably similar to Sandra.

message 3049: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Quick two cents, I think from people know are daycare and preschool teachers, it's more about teaching kids that you can't touch people without consent. Whether that is hitting or kissing. It's your body and you choose who touches you when.

I'm on board for that, as I know Aus has a problem with adults understanding what consent is. So teach it from that age and hopefully it will fix a bigger problem.

Hi from Prague by the way. Last stop before flying home on Wed.
