message 2953: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Peggy, that is one of the most frustrating things, having to wait on someone else so you can do your job. I have that problem a lot unfortunately. But maybe it is a good thing in my case, because it gives me time to check in on GR. :)

I don't know where my brain is at this week, it doesn't appear to be inside my head. This week is financial reporting week at work. My boss was going to be out Wednesday so he asked me to have everything ready by Tuesday, which means I have to do everything all in one day. I had to redo everything on Tuesday in order to get the #'s where my boss wanted them, then on Wed. I realized I forgot an entry which means my first number was right and the redo, wrong. So I called and explained and told him I was going to redo everything back to the way it was the first time. After I get all of that done I run my final report from the system and it is WAY off from what it was supposed to be. I had a wrong # in one of my formulas, so NONE of what I had done so far had been right. I had to redo everything again and tell my bosses that I screwed up again. Not a good feeling. I was more frustrated at myself than anything.

message 2954: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Formula errors are easily done Kimey. And things like that always happen when you've got a deadline. Not a nice feeling though I know.

message 2955: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments I feel for you Kimey. I've been in that situation before.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11301 comments How annoying, Kimey. Maybe you are more stressed than usual these days?

message 2957: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments I agree Janice - booze bottles are much lighter if you empty them ;-p

Peggy it is good that they don't ship damages items but not good to be waiting in for something that's not coming! Will you reorder?

message 2958: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Frustrating KimeyDiann! I hope you can enjoy a well-deserved weekend now :)

Attempt 2 for the cupboards is planned tomorrow morning! Which is good, because the weather is going to be crap so I can spend the afternoon trying to put them together.

They are meant to go in a room that's extra, and which is filled with boxes sinces we moved (1.5 years ago...). They contain stuff we don't often need (my boxes) or stuff we mostly don't need at all (bf's boxes). I'm looking forward to finally organizing that room a bit! It's such a mess. I've been in a bit of cleaning out mood recently.

message 2959: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments I've had a busy, busy week! Having to bring my uncle the local hospital to get his dressings changed every second day, and 2 trips to dublin the different cancer hospitals. I can't drive that far so I bring him half way and either my cousin or my hubby takes over.

Uncle is exhauted by it all. He has 3 apps next week but we have managed to coordinate them all for the same day. This is no way to treat a man recovering from major surgery!

I've had 2 physio appointments and thankfully the brace for my gammy leg is an awful lot better - so YAY I can walk again!!

message 2960: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments Peggy - I have a room full of boxes from when I moved last year too. We were planning an addition when we bought the house and a lot of the items int he boxes will go into the addition, but the addition was put on hold and so the boxes are just sitting there. Hubby wants to clear it out, but we have nowhere to put the stuff! Aside from some sorting and tossing of older items, it will probably sit there for the next year too.

That is a busy week, Margo. I'm with you. That is not the best treatment for someone recovering from surgery. He needs to rest. Is there nowhere closer that he could go for some of those appointments? Glad you got the issue with your brace worked out! That was a complication you didn't need just now.

message 2961: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Margo, glad your brace isn't bothering you still. Its too bad there isn't a home health program in your area that could come to your home to change your uncle's bandages. All of that travelling has to be exhausting for both of you.

@Peggy & Kristie, you've had boxes stored for a year-year and half? That's nothing! The spare bedroom in my house has been a "storage" room for the past 6 years! *hangs head in shame* I'm actually working on painting some furniture that was at my M-I-L's house so we can make that into a functional room and get rid of some of the stuff we've lived without for this long and obviously don't need. It's a slow process though, I'm really good at procrastinating on cleaning out and organizing.

Friday/work is coming to a close soon and then it is officially weekend! I'm beyond ready! My husband got home last night and doesn't have to leave again until Monday. We have a night out with some friends tonight, going canoeing tomorrow if the weather doesn't turn bad, and celebrating our puppy's 10th birthday Sunday. I plan on having some adult beverages and unwinding from this stressful week.
Cross your fingers for me that it doesn't storm tomorrow, we haven't been able to go canoeing all summer and our chances are running out. The weather has been so weird here all week, you never know from one minute to the next if it'll be raining, sunny, or stormy.

message 2962: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That is crazy Margo. I hope you all get some rest to recover from all that running around.

Hard to believe it's been that long since you moved in to your house Peggy! Times certainly flies. We still have quite a number of boxes on the boat that we haven't unpacked yet. We need more storage space too. We're getting there but it's definitely slower than I'd like.

I ended up having to have antibiotics as my asthma was playing up and I got a chest infection or something - not sure which came first. Anyway, they helped and I took the full dose but I'm pretty sure it's back again. We had to move the boat tonight and my chest is not great right now. My partner had to do the last 2 locks on his own so I get a sneaking suspicion I might have to call the out of hours doctors tomorrow morning. One good thing though is we're having takeaway so I don't have to cook. Silver linings...

message 2963: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments It's too bad that your uncle has to travel such distances. That must be extremely hard on him.

I got the keys to my house today and I ran right over and checked it out. We start moving the non-essential stuff tomorrow.

message 2964: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments How exciting Janice. Good luck with the first wave of moving.

message 2965: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds exhausting and stressful for all of you Margo.

Hope you feel better soon Sarah!

Exciting Janice! Good luck with moving tomorrow.

I'm so glad we're not the only ones with a room full of boxes for years!

message 2966: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments I'll probably be joining you and Kristie with boxes. I had no idea I had so much stuff!

message 2967: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments Very good, Janice! So exciting to finally start the moving. It's amazing how much stuff you have when it's all in boxes, isn't it?

message 2968: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Good luck with move, Janice. It will be worth the effort in the end :)

message 2970: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Every house I have ever lived in has had a junk room that we have failed to get to the bottom of!

As to my uncle having to travel so far for treatment, in Ireland everything is centered on Dublin as 50% of the population live there. All government attempts to decentralize have been frustrated by the unions. Those of us who chose not to live in the city just have to suck it up :-P It is very hard on sick people though. I think that they should take him back into hospital until all of this dies down BUT we have a bed crisis in our hospitals that has been going on for 2 decades! Again I blame the unions.

Ah well, for the last decade I have been complaining of too much time, too little energy - now that's only half true lol

I have cut back on my online book club activity. This is really the group I interact much with anymore. I love the variety of thinks you guys provide - there's always something interesting going on! I'm so glad I found this group ;-D

message 2971: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments I'm glad you found us, too, Margo.

Back in the hospital would be the best place for your uncle. I understand about the bed shortage. It seems to be a problem here too. Hopefully that will be resolved when they finish building the new hospital.

It's moving day, and I'm sick. I was up from midnight on with diarrhea and vomiting. I'm trying to hold it all together. My friends should be here momentarily. I just want to go to bed and sleep.

message 2972: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments Oh no, Janice! Can you reschedule? Or maybe just do one run with a few things? That's horrible timing to be sick. So sorry to see that. Don't for get to bring TP with you if you make a run to the new house and do try to get some rest today so you can get better faster. Hope you feel better quickly!

Oh no, Janice! What awful timing! I really hope you feel better soon and that the move goes as well as it can do under the circumstances.

message 2974: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Oh Janice, what a disaster! There's a similar bug doing the rounds here. My poor mam had it - but at least she wasn't moving house.

Hope you feel better :(

message 2975: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11301 comments When you describe the problemas of Ireland, Margo, you could be talking about Uruguay. It is the sane problem there, since half of the population live in Montevideo, the capital city. It is really hard to decentralize.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11301 comments I hope you are feeling better, Janice, and you manage to do the move!

message 2977: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments We got two truck loads and one car load of stuff moved. Lots of boxes down in the basement now. I had a cup of tea when we got back to the apartment. My friends decided it was time to part ways when I kept falling asleep. I can't seem to wake up and my skin is feverish.

I think it's food poisoning. Last night I had left over chicken wings from the restaurant.

Kristie | 19327 comments Glad you were able to get some boxes moved. I hope you feel better quickly. Try to get some rest!

message 2979: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I feel your pain Janice. I mowed hay until 230 am a few days back and got sick as soon as I got in house. Instead of going to bed I was in bathroom for like an hour. Went to bed got up at 5 and of course with all the usual work had all the hay I mowed to put in. Let's just say it was a long rough day. Although I don't think I was quite as bad as you sound. Still not sure if it was something I ate or dehydration. Or a bug. Either way when you have to get stuff done and sick like that it's a wretched day.

That's good to hear.

message 2984: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments I'm feeling a bit better today. Had a yoghurt this morning - first food I've eaten since the disastrous chicken wings. I couldn't stay awake yesterday, so I gave in and went to bed around 5:00 and slept right through till 6:00 this morning. Wild!

Travis, it is no fun forcing yourself to work when you're so sick. I hope you're feeling better too.

message 2985: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Pleased to hear you are feeling a bit better Janice and you are better Travis. A dodgy stomach is no fun. My chest is feeling better today. Looks like I irritated the rib i cracked back at Christmas when I had flu. Been coughing more as the room at work has damp due to a recent leaky gutter.

message 2986: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Glad you Janice, Travis and Sarah are feeling better. Yay you have the house Janice. Dodgy stomach aside, it is YOURS!
Rest up Margo, and glad your Uncle is still on the mend. And Kimey, I frequently have those weeks.

We're in a tiny town called Wolfach in the Black Forest in Germany. We went for a hike today for 3 hours through the forest (it took lo b get as we were excitable and distracted and took ALL the paths and Lexx had to photograph every single mushroom he saw) to the next town. This is unheard of in some parts of Australia. The next town is more likely a 3 drive in some places. It was awesome, we caught the train back and drank beer on the river to relax. Off to Baden-Baden tomorrow and then Berlin for 4 (I think?) nights.

message 2987: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Sounds like you guys are enjoying yourselves. I'm guessing the weather has been better this weekend for you. It's definitly been better here.

message 2988: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments Sounds lovely, Rusalka! Any magic mushrooms in the lot? I like the idea of relaxing on the river.

message 2989: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Glad everyone is feeling better and Rusalka and Lexx are having a grand time on their trip.
We finally got a little rain last night - the first since the middle of May. It has cleared up the smoke in the air from the fires in British Columbia. Hopefully, we are over with the heat wave too, for the rest of the summer. That was a long spell, for us in the Pacific Northwest.

message 2990: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's a long time to go without rain Cherie!

It has been nice clear skies the last couple of nights. The meteor shows were supposed to peak on Saturday night but I completely forgot to go out and look for them. I set an alarm for last night so went out to look. I saw lots of little quick flashes which I wasn't sure were meteors at first as they didn't leave a tail but they weren't satellites or airplanes. Then I saw 3 proper meteors, one which seemed to go on for ages which was awesome. Whilst out there, the noise on the canal was immense. No idea what was rustling around out there although I'm pretty sure I heard a water vole doing what they do - plopping in to the water, swimming about, chewing down reeds to eat and for their nest etc. Also a few bats kept circling around me. Pretty cool. It's cloudy today so I'm guessing the stars won't be visible tonight.

message 2991: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Sarah, I'm so jealous when I think of how close you are to nature on the river! I get terribly sea sick though so I couldn't live on a boat :(

Glad everyone if feeling better and hope you can start to enjoy the new house Janice :-)

@Rusalka, it sounds like you're on the trip of a livetime! So glad you're enjoying it :-)

message 2992: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments The wildlife is one of my favourite things about living on a boat. I get sea sick too. When we were thinking of getting a boat I was worried about that and wanted to stay on one first to see how I coped. When we saw our boat, i got all caught up in the excitement and we bought it before we hired a boat to give it a go. The boat hardly moves at all. If I didn't know I was on a boat, i would have thought i was on land. The only time the boat moves i when another boat goes by which isn't that often. The canal is still. However, on the river it can be more noticeable especially on tidal areas and where it's wider and if it's in flood.

message 2993: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sorry to hear you got sick on moving day Janice.

Sounds great Rus! I loved the Black Forest!

I tend to get sea sick on smaller boats on open sea, but am okay when we're on (almost) still waters. What helps is to sit outside and watch the horizon, it's much worse when you're inside without view of the horizon.

message 2994: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments The problem with tattoos is I always think how can a person be so certain they oermanantly want this on their body. Yesterday morning I was milking and out of nowhere I'm like I know exactly what I want for a tattoo I'm totally gonna do this. Today I was like actually I need to change it. Perfect. Later. That's not right aha this is perfect. Wait no I should add a little to it. Ooh I should do this too . Wait. Is that too much. I think my arm is too small for that maybe I need to eliminate some stuff. Damn. If I was a fat person I'd have twice as much workable space. This is all stuff that went through my head today. And this is exactly why I have no tattoos. Lol

message 2995: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments I'm the same way, Travis. I just can't commit to loving a tattoo for the rest of my life. I have an idea for one, but I'm waiting a while to see if I change my mind, which I probably will.

message 2996: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Funny I started out small and seem to need about half my forearm at this point. I do have a plan B. But that went from 1 tattoo with my kids birthdays and initial to them each getting a separate one. I'm impossible

message 2997: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Originally I had a 5 word quote. Then I decided it should be on a scroll. Then I thought why not add an Inkwell and quill. Ok. Quill in Ink, is it still writing maybe on top of ink hanging over scroll about to drip. So many choices. But wait. A short well burned candle would be cool too. Is that too much. Now is the candle just there or is it illuminating the scroll. I'm not big on color but may end a little color would be ok. A slight color to the scroll and a candle emitting light. I'll probably just go insane thinking on it all. But for all the indecisiveness on the tattoo I did decide to give myself a mohawk Saturday night and I've still got it. But it's not quite right. Can't decide if it needs to be narrowed up a bit or if my wife is right and my hair needs to grow a little longer. I was thinking we needed to cut an inch off myself. The plan was to do the mohawk and let it grow long so I had some good head banging hair. It's like 2 maybe 3 inches long and I'm already about to cut it down. Don't see the long hair part working but what I found is with a mohawk I shave all the gray off and I'm left with nice dark hair... For now I'm sure the gray is onits way

message 2998: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments LOL!

I loved the design that I chose to have tattoed on my ankle. I was a bit surprised that I couldn't have it as small as I wanted. But I shrugged my shoulders and said to go ahead.

Now I look back and think that I would prefer a different design - similar but different. The leaves are all pointing up instead of down. But they are little, you can't really tell unless you look closely.

But then I think... I loved it at the time. It was perfect for what I was interested in and cared about at the time. We change over the years, and it's a snapshot of a period of my life.

message 2999: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments I feel more in control today. I called the internet provider and met the tech at the house to do a site inspection. He knows what they need to install.

I called an electrician. He came just as the IP Tech was leaving. He did a consult on what I needed for power outlets in the basement. There wasn't one! And I'm putting my office and sewing room down there! His price is reasonable, and he'll do the work next week.

I called the IT company and explained that I'm moving and I need a proper networking solution for me and my employee. They are going to come and get us all set up.

Things are starting to fall into place and the stress is gradually abating. Phew!

Oh, and I measured out the perfect spot for my piano! So excited. That's going to cost me a fortune to move and get tuned. It's so badly out of tune. It may take a couple of trips for the piano tuner.

message 3000: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I did a mohawk on my partner. The first time we did it quite wide. As time has gone it, it has got narrower. Occasionally i have to trim the middle bit when it gets a hit long. The thing with a mohawk is it has to be maintained. I like it in my partner when the sides are a little lobger hut he quite likes it fresh. He used to shave his head all the time so is used to that more than he is hair.

Good to hear you are feelibg more on form. Sounds like you're getting things organised well.
