Kristie | 19327 comments How cool is this? The deer in my backyard are watching my grandson in the pool. I was surprised they didn't run away when he went down off the porch. They had just been playing with my dog too. Daring deer. :)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Wow! That's awesome!

I'm surprised (and jealous) every time I hear people about deer in their yard.

Here a squirrel is the talk of the whole street.

Sarah | 18550 comments Have fun Travis. I'd love to see Korn. They were a big favourite of mine when I was a teenager. Not listened to much of their recent stuff though for some reason.

We had the mother of all thunderstorms here last night. It started at 3am and woke me up even with earplugs in and went on until 5am. We got up to watch this lightning for a bit and a few flashes were so close and so bright we had to look away. Not experienced that before. And the rain just lashed it down. All made louder due to living in a steel box with all the windows open as it was so unbelievably hot and stuffy. I should sleep well tonight. We've been decorating all week and I'll be glad to have it finished. It has meant that we got to try out our new sofa bed as we had to move the bed out of the bedroom to paint. It was very comfy which is good to know.

message 2762: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well where I live pretty much everyone has deer in their backyard. The other day I was fixing up some fence along the woods and I noticed a young buck about 20 ft away. Took out phone got picture of it. It just sat there watching me. I walk along and was in the process of sending the pic when I saw another deer about 20 ft away. Same thing as before. I walk along and find another deer. Repeat. It was pretty neat. I didn't threaten these deer for anything walking along instead the sound of me walking along seemed to peak all the wild life's attention

Chester Bennington found dead from hanging. And on chris Cornell's birthday

message 2768: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I was just about to post that here Travis. So sad. He was only 41 and had 6 kids.

message 2769: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have just heard about Chester Bennington. Very sad :( I was a big fan of Linkin Park in my teens.

message 2770: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I used to listen to it a lot too in my teens Lisa.

message 2771: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yep. I just heard too. I couldn't believe it. Loved their first album.

message 2772: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I think this fits with the other thread on social media abuse. For me a couple songs off minutes to midnight was last they had to offer. The new album where he pairs with Ciara and stuff. Not for me. They always pushed the norm and experimented and the new album especially got criticized hard. Ppl say this isn't Linkin Park . Well yes it is. Hybrid theory was more than an album it was their whole philosophy and approach to music. If you don't like it don't listen. I think a lot of these things come from the hate on social media. I really do. We just see this too much. I also never felt Chester got anywhere near the credit he deserved. I've been saying for 10 years or more he's most under rated singer in all of rock

message 2773: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I agree Travis. On this radio they said their first album holds the record for most sales which I had no idea about. I might just have to stick that album on now.

I didn't know about their album sales record either. I'm not surprised though, it was a brilliant album. I liked every single track on it and that's not normally the case with me.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Not familiar at all with Chester Bennington or Linkin Park. But I'm sad to hear of his evident suicide. I do think a person's life is in their own hands. However, I strongly think that suicide is NOT the best choice in most cases.

I had a friend who was in end-stage, terminal breast cancer. She fought it. Did chemo and radiation. Cancer came back more aggressively than before. When her quality of life was so poor, she ended it with an overdose of morphine. Still miss her so much. Don't even consider her death a suicide actually. More like self-euthanasia.

However, the take away for me is you need to keep going because you don't know what tomorrow will bring, and you'll likely feel better soon. You can reach out for help. There is always hope so don't give up!!!!

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments So jealous of your concert, Travis. I'm assuming it was awesome!

Can't say I've heard of Yelawolf... Was he at the Korn concert?

Awesome pic, Kristie.
I was out walking my dogs one evening and I heard this strange noise coming from the wooded area next to the house. All of a sudden a deer jumped out the brush, ran across the road, jumped the railroad tracks and disappeared into the trees on the other side. Before my heart could slow down from the shock of its appearance flying past, another one did the same thing. It was pretty awesome to see, especially with them being so close.

message 2779: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I was so sad to hear about Chester Benninton yesterday. Another huge loss for the music industry. I had no idea that he had six children, my heart breaks for what they must be going through.

I've seen others speculating that the social media abuse he and Linkin Park have received since the new album release probably played a part in his deteriorating mental health (and it really probably did). But if you listen to the lyrics of his music, you can tell he has dealt with depression for a very long time. Its just so sad that he thought the only way to escape it was by ending his life.

message 2780: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yeah Yelawolf was at Korn concert. YouTube it and figure out how he got in the mix. I guess because he sometimes raps to rock music. I was thinking well if kimey likes the rock and her husband likes the rap might be they listen to Yelawolf. Guess he used to be known as catfish Billy . Probably wouldn't have seemed so strange if I wasn't at krockathon

message 2781: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Show started at 6 we didn't know they had a bunch of bands starting at 4 so we missed a couple we didn't know and red sun rising but saw most of Ded which luckily saved anti everything for last since it's only song I know by them

Yeah the lyrics of Linkin Park are quite dark and once again none of us took time to ponder the writer and what torments them to bring us these songs. Just like how I never really thought about it with Chris Cornell. Now Shawn Morgan of Seether and Corey Taylor both of hose I know have issues so they wouldn't be so surprising

message 2782: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments To be honest I really don't get into celebrity gossip. I don't look up famous people. I don't know the name if many band members out there

LOL, never heard of catfish billy either! I'll definitely be googling Yelawolf.
Speaking of mixing the rap with the rock, wasn't it Linkin Park that remixed some of their songs with Jay-Z or someone? I remember really liking those songs.

I would love to see Red Sun Rising solely to hear their version of "Uninvited" live (originally by Alanis Morissete). That is one of my top 10 favorite covers.

message 2784: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I was just youtubing some Yelawolf. I dont even know what songs we heard. Lol. I will say he is much better live than the cleaned up stuff on YouTube. His voice is much more aggressive and raw live. I think he had dj crazy spinning for him maybe they don't always work together because none of the music sounds right on YouTube. After all this I can say for better or worse I'll never forget tat time we saw Yelawolf live. Seriously he tapped for like 45 minutes and there were some big fans in crowd

message 2785: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Just bought Tix for make America rock again tour coming to my hometown. Scott stapp of Creed, drowning pool, sick puppies, adelitas way and trapt. $35 oh heck yeah

message 2786: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I'll have to ask my husband if he's familiar with him. I'll look up some of his stuff when I get home.

Sick Puppies put on a really good show live!
I'm trying to remember if Trapt is one of the bands I saw the same year as sick puppies, but can't remember for sure if it was them. Creed was actually the first concert I went to without adult supervision. I think it was my senior year of high school. That should be a really good night. I wish more shows like this came closer to where I live! When I lived on the gulf coast there was a really good rock festival every summer that we always went to. But now that is 6 hours away and we haven't made it back down there in several years.

Memphis and Birmingham are relatively close to me, but they don't get a lot of rock shows. Atlanta or Nashville aren't too far away, 3-4 hours, but I'm not good at keeping up with what's going on there. Metallica was in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago, but I don't love the new album enough to spend that much money on tickets. I have some friends that went though and the pictures and vids they shared really made me regret that decision.

message 2787: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Metallica is absolutely incredible live. Specially for a bunch of old farts. Lol

Red Sun Rising is great live. They put every drop of energy they have into it. When we saw them in December we found a pick on the floor walked in hallway and red sun rising was out there so we went and got the pick autographed by the guitarist. Was pretty cool

message 2788: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'm terrible with properly defining irony but does anyone see the irony in having an Australian band part of make America rock again. I know it's a spoof on trump but the title kind of umplies American bands by mocking trump. Although Australia puts out lots of great rock so I'm not complaining at all

message 2789: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments We'll rock where ever people will have us. But yes, it's a bit ironic.

speaking of going where people will have us, we're sitting in Melbourne airport. We were going to check our bags and hang around until our flight. Just been told we can't do that till 2am. it's currently 7.30pm. finding some couches, wine and power points then. Tried to get on an earlier flight and it was going to cost us $1000 to fly at 9pm tonight instead of 5am tomorrow.

Also sorry for being quiet. My computer blew up too. And our car. And our heater. And less literally, my last week at work. Bring on this holiday! And I'm going to have to spend a lot of money once I get home.

message 2790: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds like you really need that holiday Rusalka. Don't think about that other stuff until you get back :)

message 2791: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Oh Rusalka, what a rotten start to your holiday :(

Things can only get better :-)

message 2792: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Oh goodness Rus! You most definitely deserve a vacation! I hope your trip is wonderful and relaxing.

I don't know how credible the source is, but i just read an article that said the police are investigating chester's death as a possible murder. It said the similarities between his death and Chris Cornell's were eerily similar.

message 2793: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Interesting. Actually my first thought was what's with people hanging themselves these days. Just seems strange. It's what you do in prison because you lack a better way. That said my great grandmother hung herself because she couldn't take the pain of migraines but this was late 70's early 80's. I don't know if I was born. Different times. Today again, who hangs themselves really .

message 2794: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments What if it turns out to be the decades serial killer. Some wacko who makes it look like rock stars are committing suicide. I mean Cornell had been doing side projects and solo stuff did the Zac Brown band thing. Linkin Park was mixing it up. Let's not forget dime bag Darryl Abbott was shot because a guy was upset Pantera broke up and Vinny was lucky he got out alive. Sad thing is the singers fall into drugs and alcohol to cope with back pain killed Pantera not the Abbott's.

message 2795: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think murder sounds a little far-fetched. If their suicides were similar it seems more plausible to me that Chester copied Chris for some reason. Given that they were close friends he might have known about the exact circumstances of his death, and also because it was Chris' birthday, it may have been some sort of tribute maybe?

message 2796: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments https://youtu.be/utYT1YE_PZ8 this should be a link to the Northmen. A local band . Saw them live in February and was blown away. Then I realized I know those guys. Bassist was 4 yrs ahead of me in school. I graduated with his sister. Lived a few miles away and worked for same farm in high school as he did in hs. I guess they did just release an EP I don't know im not here to sell records. But they have become the opener for all the rock shows and will be opening for the make America rock show do there is always a chance they could get signed. Radio station has this song in regular rotation now.will they make it big. Doubtful there's tons of great bands out there and it's a lot of luck.tgey don't bring anything new instead they're bringing back old I guess. You can hear a lot of eighties metal influenced them. Anyway it's a good tune from a small town band and if they do go somewhere you can be like whoa that's those dudes Travis told us about. The last local band who had radio play and opened at all the shows opened for godsmack and about a month later signed with a label and flew to LA. Know what. Last I ever heard anything from them. I almost think they'd been better never getting on a label. Had to have been some legal something or other because once they were signed the radio had to quit playing them. I'm not sure though they may have had to change their name so maybe I just don't know who they are anymore

Sarah | 18550 comments Phew. 29 locks of Caen hill lock flight plus 15 mile stretch of canal at the same time as finishing off painting the bedroom and bathroom. That was my weekend. I'm absolutely knackered now. But no rest for the wicked. I have a jam packed week this week but lots of exciting stuff planned so I can't complain.

Just watched the teaser trailer for Ready Player One and it looks awesome. Anyone else watched it? Annoying that it's not set for release until next year though.
