Travis your family is certainly going through the mill right now. I am very proud of my uncle (the one with cancer is the only one that I have left) as he is an alcoholic who has been dry for 12 years and counting! He had the will power to pull himself up from rock bottom. That takes great courage.

Kristie | 19327 comments Margo - Will be saying prayers and sending good vibes for your uncle!

So sorry for all the doctors needed in this thread! Hope everyone can get and stay healthy.

Kristie | 19327 comments My daughter called me yesterday to see if I can drive her to the airport in a couple of weeks. I said, "Sure. What time?" I need to remember to ask what time first! Her flight is at 6am. We will need to leave my house about 3:30 in the morning! Oh, to have the energy of a twenty-something again.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I'll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts tomorrow, Margo! I can only imagine how stressful all of this is for you all.

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments I'll be thinking of you as well, Margo. I hope it goes well for your uncle. Good on him for pulling himself out of alcoholism. It's a difficult thing to do.

That had to have hurt Kimey!

Speaking of doctors, I was watching America Has Talent last night. The last performer was a young doctor - 29 years old, family medicine. He had a beautiful voice and the judges gave him a standing ovation. When they rolled the credits, they had a tribute to him. I googled and learned that shortly after the auditions, he was killed in a car accident. So very sad.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Argh! Last day of our holiday, driving back home from an overnight stay in Germany 400 km from home. We're now at a fuel station next to the highway, 130 km from home, with car trouble. We've been waiting for almost 3 hours and now it will be another 90 before someone comes to tow us away.

And there we were thinking we would be home early today.. at least it happened now and not on our way to Norway!

message 2657: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Oh no, Peggy! That's not a good way to end your holiday! Still, as you say, better it happened now than on your way to Norway or when you were actually in Norway. I hope it gets sorted out as quickly as possible.

message 2658: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments That stinks, Peggy! At least it is some good reading time? Trying to find a silver lining for you. LOL.
I hope you make it home safely!

message 2659: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Haha yes, never been more greatful for my ereader! And at least we're at a gas station instead of somewhere along the highway, and it's not raining. And it makes our holiday last a few hours longer. Lots of silver linings ;-)

Good for you Peggy.
I hope your help arrives soon... It's been 31 mins since you wrote the 90 mins message, so that's under an hour left ; )

message 2661: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments It's good that if the car had to break down, it waiting until you were on your way home.

We've had trips start out bad twice. Once, we had to catch a flight and had a flat tire. We got there just in time. The second time we picked up debris from the road, gouging a hole in the gas tank. We were about 6 hours late getting to our destination. You don't want something like that to happen on a deserted road on a Sunday when repair shops in a small town are shut down and no cities for hundreds of miles.

message 2662: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Glad you are finding lots of silver linings! :)

I'm leaving in an hour or so to go spend the weekend with my husband. I am taking two of our nieces with me for a little mini vacation for them. They are 12 and 14 (15 next week). Hopefully no car problems for us and that the weather stays good so we can go to the beach one day! I'm looking forward to the trip and wishing the clock would stop moving so slowly!

message 2663: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11301 comments Arrrrr, Peggy. I hope it is solved soon.
Our car broke when we were starting a trip, only 50 km into the trip, 300 km to go. We had 5 kids at the time. My mom lent us her so we didn't have to cancel everything. Our car needed to be at the shop for more than a week.

Kristie | 19327 comments Peggy, I hope your car troubles have finally been resolved! It's a good thing you planned to be home early so you didn't end up trying to deal with this late in the evening or into the night.

Kimey, what book did you end up going with for your trip with your nieces?

message 2666: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We were relatively lucky I guess.

We had to wait 2 hours for the tow truck, but we're finally home!

Enjoy your trip KimeyDian!

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm just about to head off to the hospital to get the results of my MRI head scan. I'm a bit nervous but hopefully nothing too serious will have shown up.

message 2669: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments About a month ago my brother in law drove from Colorado to NY. Blew the engine in his car 15 miles from our house. I don't know the distance of the entire drive but it was several days of driving to do it. So back to Peggy's silver linings all those miles and the break down is 15 miles from my house . My wife ended up driving them the final 2 hours to get to their destination.

Good luck Lisa

Hope everything went well with your uncle Margo.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm back from the hospital. The condition the neurologist suspected I was suffering from, ME, has been confirmed. I have been receiving treatment for it for a few years anyway, but the neurologist wanted to rule out MS. However, the MRI also showed up something unexpected. I have a small abnormality in the lower part of my brain at the bottom of my skull, most likely as a result of hitting my head after I fell whilst skiing when I was about 12 years old. A small part of my brain is being compressed against my skull, nerves etc. It's not life threatening and it's not causing me any problems at the moment, but it needs to be monitored and it may require treatment further down the line. I've got to go back and see the neurologist in 3 months for a check up and I will then be sent for a CT scan of my head and the top of my spine to see how things stand. So, the ME was expected, this other thing was not. I guess it's better to know about it though. I've probably had it for years and wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't been sent for the MRI to rule out MS.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Its always better to know. I had a school teacher who walked through a glass door as a child. 25 years later she had to get a glass shards removed as it all of a sudden began giving problems. I don't remember what but my point is you never know when something that has been a non issue someday may become a problem

message 2677: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think it's good to know too. Better to keep an eye on it just in case!

Margo | 11668 comments Sarah wrote: "Good luck Lisa. Let us know how you get on.

How was the surgery Margo?"

It went OK. He's in ICU now on a ventilator which is as expected. All looking good so far but god knows when we'll get to talk to a doctor. He himself will not be speak for some time as he is breathing through a tube in his throat which will stay in for at least a week and then speech therapy will begin. The enforced silence will be very hard on him as that man does love to talk! Thanks for asking Sarah :-)

message 2679: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Best to know Lisa. At least the one thing was confirmed and the other thing has been found. My cousin was ill with dizziness and had an mri which found a benign tumour on her pituitary gland. It wasn't the cause of her symptoms but found by chance. They found something else responsible for the symptoms although I can't remember what now. Anyway, she goes to the hospital once a year for a check up on the tumour but that's it. She is going to have it removed at some point but after she's had a kid or two just in case it affects the chances of conceiving as it might affect hormone production.

That's good to hear Margo. Yes I bet it will be frustrating not being able to speak as much as he would like. You'll all get a break though ;-)

message 2680: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Thanks everyone! At least I know where I stand now.

Glad to hear your uncle's surgery went okay, Margo. You should make the most of the enforced silence ;)

message 2681: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Lisa it could turn out to very lucky you had that MRI. Maybe you'll live with that brain compression with no issues but it's so much safer to have it recognised and monitored!
I'm glad there is no sign of MS but I'm sure ME is not fun. I know what it's like to battle cronic tiredness and general malaise. It's no picnic ;-)

Thanks, Margo. No, ME is no fun at all. The chronic tiredness is awful but it also causes me a lot of pain all over my body, as well as a number of secondary symptoms which come and go. At least I have a chance of recovering from it, whereas you have next to no chance of recovering from MS. I'm sorry to hear you also suffer from chronic tiredness and malaise. Are you able to control it with medication or treatment?

message 2683: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments Lisa, I agree with everyone else, that it's good to know about the anomaly and can now monitor it.

Margo, glad to hear your uncle is on the healing side of the surgery. I'm sure it will be frustrating for him to be silent.

Yeah I know a bit about neurologists! 12 years ago I had a stroke-like incident which left me with moderate brain damage, a right-side weakness and a host of other symptoms. As for meds, you name it, I probably take it :(

Sorry to hear that, Margo. It's not fun being on loads of medication is it? I take a number of different ones too. Most of them cause side effects as well :(

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments So many health related incidents - I'm glad for the positives outcomes and so sorry for the illnesses. Support is so important - whether you're the one involved or a family member, I hope you're remembering to take care of yourself too!

I've decided today is a mental health day and I'm going to play on the computer and read. I have lots of snacks and wine and good books to keep me satisfied. Tomorrow I'll update my list of all the crap I need to do and then start tackling it on Monday. I hope everyone is making time to relax for a while this weekend!

Kristie | 19327 comments I'm on vacation visiting friends and family. I'm here for four days, leaving tomorrow, and I've been in bed with a stomach bug the whole time! I've had to cancel all my plans and haven't even gotten much reading done. I can't remember the last time I was really sick. I certainly hope it goes away before I have to get on the plane tomorrow!

message 2692: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Oh Kristie, that really sucks! Plane ride plus stomach problems do not equal a pleasant trip. I really hope you feel better before then. I hope you get to visit again when you feel better!

Sarah | 18550 comments Get well soon Kristie. A shame you had to cancel your plans and have had a rubbish time. Fingers crossed for an easy flight home tomorrow.

My parents came to visit earlier and we went out for a nice meal. I think we might have finished all the sanding in the bathroom and bedroom now. What a crap job. Luckily it's my partner who has been doing it and not me but the dust gets everywhere. Tomorrow we can start painting. It's going to look so different once it's done.

After getting stuck in a 2 hour tail back on the was home yesterday I'm in the mood for some action today! Choices are swimming of dejunking my bedroom drawers.

What's the betting I end up slumped in front of the TV for the day??

message 2700: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19327 comments Finally feeling better today! Thank goodness. I was really worried about traveling feeling the way I was. Thank you all for your well wishes.

Margo, I'd go with swimming. I'm one that puts off de-junking drawers as much as possible. But, I'd probably end up lounging about too.
