Kristie | 19324 comments This is so sad. I saw it last night. In my mind, they were targeting children. It was a concert with artists like Ariana Grande. Her audience is very young. Somehow that just makes it worse that the targets were children. The children have no idea about politics or whatever cause someone thinks they are promoting. It just makes it even more awful and just senseless.

I have to admit that I don't know how killing people promotes any cause! It does get attention to it, but I would think it doesn't gain many supporters. Except IS apparently.

Kristie | 19324 comments Oh wow, Peggy! I missed your pic while I was posting. Your hair looks so different! I love it both ways. I can see how it took so much time and effort to get out. It must feel so much lighter now. Very pretty!

message 2003: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I don't know about terrorist attacks like this one, but with those single-man acts who kill themselves in the process (like shootings, but now that I think of it, this might not be so different) it's often said that media attention inspires others to do the same. You kind of go out with a bang, the whole world knows who you are and what you did, and apparently that can trigger others to do the same thing. While if this would not get any attention, people might not do something like this or if they want to kill themselves anyway they do so quietly. Of course this doesn't apply to everyone, it depends on many factors.

Sarah | 18550 comments Love the hair Peggy. I bet it feels so good now although probably a little strange after having dreads for such a long time. Are you pleased with it?

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks everyone!

Yes, I love it :) It's a bit shorter than I planned, and shorter than I ever had it, but I really like it. It feels fresh and new and light and lots of other things.

message 2008: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Completely agree Peggy. I mean, it's one of the few situations most of us have been in. No matter your music choice, where you are in the world, your age, your gender, etc. Most of us have been to a gig.

Who are you going to see?

message 2009: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Royal Blood :)

message 2010: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19324 comments Peggy - I just said something similar to my husband about the recent rash of people running down crowds of people in vehicles. It's like they see it on the news and think, "Oh, that's a good idea. That's what I'm going to do."

message 2011: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments I missed the other page. Peggy, that looks awesome. I like the dreads, and I like without. You must feel soooo light. I always am amazed when I cut hair from my back to my shoulders how great it feels. You must feel like you are floating!

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Peggy, BEAUTIFUL!

I'm just now hearing about the terror attack. My email and GR is the only thing I have looked at today. So sad. :(

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments The bombing in Manchester is so shocking! Such a tragedy all the way around. How callous to target children like that.

message 2015: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments It's looking like it's going to be a hot weekend here in the UK. And it's a bank holiday. They hardly ever coincide. My partner is taking an extra day off so we have a 4 day weekend. Hopefully we can wire in our bathroom, put a door up and hopefully get a coat of primer on this weekend. And move the boat of course. Our next move will take us further away from the main marina which sends out hireboats. They will go one way and we will be moored the other so it will be a bit quieter thankfully. We are hanging around here at the moment trying to time it for when our boat goes in to dock in 3 weeks time. It's going to be taken out of the water and painted underneath. Once that is done, we can go somewhere a bit quieter out of the way. Looking forward to it.

Ooh I love the new look, but I kinda liked the old look too! It is a radical change though. Hairdressers are always trying to sell you saloon products and lets face it, no matter what product we use, we never get the same look as when somebody else blowdrys us!

Sounds like you won't get much time to enjoy the weather! Do you live in a houseboat? That would be very cool B-)

Sadly, I don't think the warm, sunny weather is going to last all weekend. It's meant to be nice tomorrow and Saturday, but the Met Office is now forcasting rain and thundery showers for Sunday and Monday with temperatures sliding back down to between 16 and 20 degrees. Fingers crossed they have got it wrong. Still, I'm not sure it would be a UK bank holiday without a bit of rain would it?

message 2019: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments We had our first, proper wintery day today. Foggy and grey until 3pm, an hour of sunlight, then sunset and dark by 5.15pm. Top of 13C.

Very glad I am only having a 2 month long winter this year, and coming to party in your hemisphere in July/August. It was depressing.

message 2020: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes I live on a narrowboat Margo.

I saw it might go down hill a bit Lisa. I guess we'll find out. A storm might be good as it feels really humid. I feel like i'm dying. The pollen is affecting my asthma and hayfever today. Pollen can do one.

message 2021: by Lisa (last edited May 25, 2017 05:08AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I can't stand humidity either, Sarah. It's horrible. Sorry to hear about your asthma and hayfever flaring up today. Although I suffer from asthma, pollen doesn't tend to flare it up too much so I'm quite lucky. Hopefully pollen levels will drop soon and you will feel more comfortable.

message 2022: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We have good forecast as well. Bit too much in the weekend. Today 25, tomorrow 27, over 30 in the weekend. Around 25 next week too.

message 2023: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Well here in ireland we are meant to have storms later today and there is that terrible pre-storm stillness and clamminess at the moment. Plus my poppy has opened it's petals which is a more reliable indicator of high winds to come than and weather forecast. It's such a beautiful flower and always, the day after it flowers, the petals are ripped off by the wind :(

That's such a shame, Margo. We had some poppies in the garden a few years ago and the same thing happened to us. They were only in flower for 2 days and then we got strong winds which blew all the petals off.

It's quite clammy here in South East England at the moment. It's beautiful and sunny today but we could get showers tomorrow morning and then on Sunday, a band of rain, potentially heavy and thundery, is meant to be moving across the country. Umbrellas at the ready by the sound of it!

Kristie | 19324 comments Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone celebrating the holiday! I hope you are all enjoying your time. I have had a fun weekend so far and more planned.

Yesterday, we had date night. We went out to dinner and a movie. We saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It started out worse than expected and ended up better than expected. I think you just need to know what you're getting into with those movies.

Today, I spent the day cooking and serving the food to the homeless. :) Then, I went to stock up on supplies for next time. Tomorrow we have plans to meet up with some friends for volleyball, then going to a cookout. Then, Monday my daughter and one of her friends is coming over for a cookout at our house. Busy, busy, fun weekend.

I certainly do plan to take a moment (or several, really, over the weekend) to remember and thank those who have given their lives for these freedoms as well. I am deeply grateful for their sacrifice, as well as the service of all our veterans and active service people.

message 2028: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really want to see that film. I remember liking the first one but not being amazed by it but then it really grew on me as i thought back on it. Then when i rewatched it the next few times i ended up loving it. Which is why I'm really excited about number 2.

We have a functional shower! We've been doing more work on the boat this weekend and making some good progress. Having a canal side bbq later with some friends for a birthday which should be great fun. Just have to hope it stays fry or will end up in the pub instead.

message 2029: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Well done Sarah! Hard work pays off ;-)

message 2030: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19324 comments I think Guardians is a bit of an acquired taste. Lol Glad you ended up enjoying it. I think if you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one too.

Congrats on your shower! You must be so excited and relieved to have that completed. Good luck with the BBQ today. I hope it stays dry and you have an excellent day.

message 2031: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I watched the first movie recently. I had to get used to it for a while but ended up enjoying it.

Good job on the shower Sarah! The bbq sounds fun!

I became an auntie last night! My sister gave birth to a beautiful boy, Jordan. She and her bf kept us updated throughout the whole process. Her first contractions started Friday around 9.30am, and he was born on Sunday 00.48am, so it took quit a while and was very exciting and nerve-wrecking for us too ;-) we just went to see him, so cute!!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Yay! Shower! that's actually wonderful!!!

Grats Peggy. I know you didn't really have much to do with the process, but now the fun begins! We met our housemates'/some of our best mates' little one today, Gideon, as I was sick the past two weekends. So he's about 3 weeks old now, but nice to add a new one to the clan, and let him know that he has a pose that will look after him no matter what.

Sarah | 18550 comments Congrats Peggy.

Bbq went well thanks. We made a makeshift cover to hide under during the small showers of rain. Just got back to the boat but had to run back as it is hammering it down now. But it's gone midnight now and the weather has been pretty good to us really. Another afternoon/evening of lots of alcohol and little food. I really must learn.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Planted corn all day for neighbor. Wow so much drama in that neighborhood. First I see the neighbor cutting a patch of ferns in woods. I call farmer tell him I think neighbor is clearing a spot to grow weed on your property. Supposedly he was just making a trail to another piece of property. It still wasn't his land or asked permission so that was interesting. Then the same guys horses were running around in road. Maybe he'd know it if he wasn't making trails on other oeoples property. The troopers got called. Them the troopers couldn't find the neighbor so they started going g to the other neighbors asking if horses get loose often. Apparently that's a yes. Then does anyone know where the neighbors are. My buddy says no while thinking yeah I'm gonna find them and see what they're doing in my woods as soon as you leave. I oobably planted the most crooked rows of corn today what with all the excitement. None of my land is near houses it's always peaceful doing my own stuff.

message 2042: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments Sounds wild, Travis! I love that the corn rows are crooked as a result.
