message 1904: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks. It actually didn't take long at all. I never timed it but I reckon perhaps 10 minutes each, maybe less. She was very quick. I believe it will stay on for around 2 weeks.

Shit! I can't believe that! I like Soundgarden. It was the soundtrack to my teens. :-(

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I never owned any Soundgarden (or Audioslave) albums, but I know a number of songs and like what he did.

Sarah | 18550 comments Yeah I didn't have any Audioslave albums but like some of the tracks.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Oh TJ. How terrifying! I am so glad you and yours are all okay, and it ended in a small, but very inconvenient fire. I love/am terrified at your husband hunting with a lighter... both Lexx and I are like "Nooo!" but yet it identified the problem. But so scary and how horrible to have to move!

Sorry for the delay, I got halfway through reading your story yesterday, and my father-in-law interrupted by turning up in his Kombi van to stay the night. I have been home sick the last few days, and this was the last thing I was expecting and wanting at the time, but put on my hospitable face, and sucked it up.

It ended up in a wonderful evening of stories, 6 bottles of wine, reciting A.A. Milne poems to each other and crashing at 3.30am. I'm weirdly feeling better.

Hope the henna works out, Sarah!

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments There was major police action at my apartment last night!

I was reading in bed when I heard knocking at my patio door. I jumped out of bed to investigate. I could see two police cars, lights flashing parked at the sidewalk, but nobody at the door.

I went to my office window (which overlooks the front of the building), and there were FIVE more police cars, and cops with rifles held at the ready. One noticed me, pointed, and said to another, "There's someone at the window." That cop came over and asked me to open the front door. I was barefoot and in my nighty - no way I was going out into the hallway and front door. I told him to come around to the patio door.

"We're the police!" he replied. (Gee, what was my first guess? The cop cars - all 7 of them - half a dozen cops, or the uniform, Kevlar vest and loaded rifle in your hands?) I pointed to the patio door and left my office.

I opened the door, he stepped in and said, "Stay inside!" Left the door open. Exited through the hallway, leaving that door open. Yeah, stay inside but I'll leave your apartment wide open so anyone can come in and the cat can escape.

Shortly after, I noticed a bunch of my neighbors standing in the parking lot. After a bit, the cop guarding the front door said something and they started filing back into the building. I heard one man ask, "Are we allowed back in now?" I didn't hear her reply. And then he said, "Well, they are right outside my door." I presume the residents on that floor were evacuated.

One of my neighbors that stops to chat with me whenever we meet in the parking lot came over to the window and told me that whatever was going on was on the third floor and that there were apparently two people in custody.

That size of action would suggest drug bust, but who knows. I hope to learn something on the news today.

All I know is that it is time to move out of here. I have been house hunting the last month. Now, I'm even more anxious to find another place.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments I missed a whole page. The henna looks fantastic Sarah!

I saw that about the Soundgarden singer. They were my brother's favourite band (along with Tool) growing up. Very sad.

Oh wow Janice! That's intense! Did the cat escape, or you manage to contain her? Here's to the househunting, definitely time to move on if you have major drug busts in your complex.

Also, why didn't they check your apartment if everyone else was outside?

Cleo almost escaped into the hallway. She was majorly pissed with me that I caught her just in time.

My guess is that they didn't need to check my apartment since it was the 3rd floor that was the hot zone. I suspect that they evacuated the people on the 3rd floor in case they had to use their weapons. Wouldn't want innocent civilians caught in a cross fire.

I think I watch too much tv.

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments Well, the news on the radio led with a report that RCMP have arrested two men for child pornography. One was arrested in March. They didn't state when the other was arrested or that there was any involvement with that case last night. So, I'm still in the dark.

ETA: Nope, that can't be it. I googled - one was arrested in March, the other May 10th.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Wow Janice! That is not a nice way to be woke up in the middle of the night. You haven't shared any horror stories from your apartment in quite a while, so I was hoping things had gotten better. Sorry to hear that isn't the case. Have you had any decent prospects in the house hunt?

@Sarah, the henna is beautiful! Is the wedding this weekend? My anniversary is Saturday so I personally think it is a great weekend for a wedding. lol.

I heard about Chris Cornell when I went to pick up lunch. So sad. He apparently performed with Soundgarden last night and passed away sometime after the show. I saw a headline that it was a possible suicide.

Where is the wedding taking place, Sarah? Is it fairly local to you or do you have travel quite a way?

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments KimeyDiann wrote: "Have you had any decent prospects in the house hunt? .."

There are a couple of places that I am really interested in. There's been a glitch - again - in the finalizing of the divorce settlement (which has only been in the works for 3 years) and it may be a bit longer before my pre-approved mortgage can be finalized as a result. Until people do the things they need to do, I'm playing the waiting game.

I keep telling myself that maybe the delay is life's way of making sure the financing is in place for when the perfect house is available. One can only hope.

Oh, and happy anniversary!

message 1933: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19324 comments Good luck, Janice. That is such a positive outlook about the finances being ready when the right house comes along.

Happy upcoming anniversary, Kimey!

I've read a couple of reports that his wife had a friend go check on him and the friend forced himself into the room and found Chris. That sounds like they knew something was wrong and were trying to get to him.

message 1939: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Thanks for the anniversary wishes! Saturday will mark 11 years of marriage. The husband was home for a few days this week, but left going back to work this morning. We didn't really celebrate because it was a busy few days, but we did exchange gifts and get some nice quality time together.

The main reason he was home during the week this time was because he came in for our niece's high school graduation. He was raised by his sister, so he's very close to his niece and promised her he would be there. We gave her money for a graduation gift, but didn't want to just hand her a card with a check.... so we put cash inside balloons that she would have to pop to get out. It was the most fun gift giving experience ever! 36 balloons with varying amounts of cash inside each one, from $1 to $100. It was truly a priceless memory!

That is a good attitude to have. I believe there's a reason for everything, even if it is beyond our ability to understand at the time. I truly hope it works out for you soon though! You've dealt with more than your fair share of drama in that apartment!

message 1942: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Such a lovely gift idea Kimey. Great you got to spend some time together and see his niece graduate.

message 1943: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I was thinking Bout this today as a teen I listened to a lot of Soundgarden but got away from it because I found it depressing. Radio always played plenty anyways and still does. After today you look at the lyrics or even just song titles and wow the signs have been there forever. No wonder it depressed me they really weren't happy songs

message 1944: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments Rumour has it, that the police were responding to a report of gunshots in the building. I don't know if it's true or not.

When I came home tonight, there was a police car parked on the street beside my apartment. I figured that perhaps they were here getting statements. I noticed them putting a man in to the back seat of the cruiser and then drove away with him. I don't know if he was arrested or just being taken in for questioning.

message 1945: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Sarah - the henna is amazing. So sharp and clear to have been done so quickly. That person is certainly an artist.

Janie - I'm glad everything worked out ok, and hope there're no more crazies in your building. Yes, all the divorce crap is so you won't buy something and then end up seeing something better.

Cornell's suicide is one of those things you have to wonder if it had to happen. But all it takes is that one moment of time to not have any hope and no one can stop you.

I've been in a really good place lately. More active, motivated, optimistic, and interacting. I'm trying to take a Learn to Crochet class Saturday, but they don't have enough people right now. Oh well, I know I don't need a class but thought it would be fun. And I'm slowly losing a little more weight - I'm wearing pants that I couldn't fit into five years ago. Some of them are sliding off of me. And no, I'm not into wearing them halfway down my butt. Last Saturday I was with a friend in a new discount store and my jeans kept sliding down. I bought a belt - a bungee cord. It's perfect since it has some stretch to it!

message 1946: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Great to hear you are in a good place J'mom. The class would be fun. Fingers crossed they can get their numbers up for it to run at some point. I love going to craft classes. I did a number of dressmaking and quilting ones at a local centre which were fantastic. And quite a few cooking classes too. They are always great fun, get to meet new people, and learn or expand your skills.
