Sandra (sanlema) | 11296 comments Peggy, I am sure your head is like a blender right now! It is normal. It has all to be with your future and important decisions you have to make, that is always stressing. And I also think that putting a project "out there" is in a way like letting your child go. It is out there, it is being evaluated, judged, something you can't control, and don't know about. So I think you have all the right of being nervous. Just try to relax, and hope for the better. :)

Kristie | 19323 comments Peggy - I hope you hear something soon The waiting is the worst part. I find the uncertainty very stressful. I like to have a plan and not knowing bothers me. I agree about the guy who sent the email. My first thought was what were you thinking!

Sarah - Your pizza sounds interesting. I've never had a pizza without cheese. What else did you have on it?

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments Peggy, I hope you hear something soon. Waiting is the worst!

I'm going quilting this weekend. I should be gathering my stuff together right now but my client needs me to do his invoicing this morning, so I'll be late to the party. I'm going to take my mending just to get it over and done with. Then I will finish a small project I started a couple of years ago. I'll check in each morning and night, so you aren't quite rid of me.

I might have to try out 'no cheese' pizza. I like cheese but not when it's melted. I end up scraping most of it off pizza because they always seem to be swimming in it.

message 1107: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11296 comments Pizza without cheese it is pretty common in Uruguay. The sauce has to be tasty, though. I absolutely love mozzarella cheese on my pizza.

Margo | 11668 comments not sure where to post this but Outlander is currently available free on audible US. Don't know how long offer will last!! http://www.audible.com/pd/Romance/Out...

message 1109: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments There's a 'great deals on great books' thread somewhere, but I'm on my phone so can't link.

I loved Outlander! I read up until book 7 I think, but it feels like they just become bigger and bigger so I'm a bit hesitant to start book 8.

message 1111: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments I just checked Audible and it is full price, Margo. Are you sure it was Audible US? Or could it have been somewhere else?

message 1112: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Sorry Kristie forgot to post the link http://www.audible.com/pd/Romance/Out...

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Hopefully you'll hear one way or the other soon, Peggy! I know the waiting can be so frustrating. I would likely be stressing out too. Just remember to take deep breaths from time to time. ;)

I'm heading out to visit my husband for the weekend in a couple of hours or so. It is an 8 hour drive and I've had a headache all day so I'm sort of dreading it. It isn't a really bad headache so I'm just hoping it doesn't get worse, or better yet, that it goes away all together. I know the reason it is hurting today is because I didn't sleep well last night. We had thunderstorms here and my German Shepherd Dog, Grace, was having a come-apart because of it. I ended up having to give her anti-anxiety meds and she finally calmed down enough that I was able to go back to bed. I hate seeing her like that. Absolutely nothing will calm her down except to medicate her. And our little dogs make it worse because they bark and get excited because she is, and they all just feed off of each other.

message 1114: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments That's so strange, Margo. Your link has it as free, but if I look it up myself it is full price.

I'm not a fan of historical romance, but for free I may pick it up in case I need it for a challenge. Though, at 896 pages or 32 hours 43 minutes, that would be challenge enough! yikes...

Thanks for the link. I'm sure it will be helpful to plenty of fans.

message 1115: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Hope you feel better quickly, Kimey. You definitely don't want anything interfering with your visits with your husband. You want to enjoy all the time you can together.

Glad your dog was able to get back to sleep, even though it was a disruptive night. So sad when they're like that.

Outlander is really great, Kristie. It is a long book (and the rest of the books in the series seem to get longer with every passing book) but you get so hooked that you will probably find you get through it quicker than you think.

message 1117: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments The problem isn't the length, but that it's not my type of book, Lisa. I don't care for romance. I can deal with contemporary, but historical, alpha male or weak, dependent females, or bodice ripping type stuff isn't my taste. I also don't like love triangles (at all) and I don't generally care for time travel, though I'm not completely opposed to it. I feel like that book will have a lot of things I don't really like, so I'm not keen to pick it up.

I did get the freebie though, just in case I'm feeling daring one day or my taste suddenly change dramatically. Ok...I just have difficulty passing up free books.

message 1118: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Kristie, I don't like romance either, especially not the kind you describe, but Outlander is nothing like that. I wouldn't classify it as any type of romance. To me it's more a fast-paced historical fiction with action thrown in. There are a few love/sex scenes, but not more than I could handle (and I have low tolerance ;-)).

I guess it would be easier to give a try if it was just 300 pages.

message 1119: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments And the time travel is just once, it's not someone going back and forth in time, if that makes a difference :)

message 1120: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments I may have the wrong impression of it then, Peggy. I can handle romance, as long as it's not really the main focus of the book, and sex scenes. And time travel is ok, but it can get tricky. I suppose with just one shift in time it wouldn't be so bad. I'm glad I picked it up now. I may give it a chance eventually. Not sure when I'll have time for a chunkster like that, but we'll see.

message 1121: by Lisa (last edited Mar 10, 2017 11:33AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm the same as you and Peggy, Kristie. I am not the biggest fan of romance either but there is definitely far more to Outlander than that. The author does some really interesting things with the characters and also turns some of the tropes of historical fiction, time travel and romance on their heads. Also, the heroine isn't weak and sappy which is another tick in its favour :)

Kristie - I would advise you to stay away from them

message 1123: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Personally I didn't care for Outlander but it seems to be very popular so i thought zI'd pass on the link. More romance than timetravel, which disappointed me. And i had problems with some of the scenes.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Whilst on the subject of Outlander, has anyone heard about the uproar author Diana Gabaldon caused on Twitter yesterday? Someone tweeted her asking for advice on what subject they should major in if they are an aspiring writer. They also told her their current plan was to major in English because they love reading. She replied that majoring in English would lead to them working in a fast food restaurant and that they should choose a subject that would allow them to make as much money as possible. Cue loads of English students and graduates offended about the fast food remark and many people saying they will never read anything she publishes ever again.

I wondered if she was purposely trolling too. She is known for being quite outspoken. It probably wasn't the smartest thing to say but I can't help wondering if people are overreacting a bit.

Sarah | 18550 comments For info, my non cheese pizza had a nice thin base with a tasty tomato sauce on, with chilli flakes, garlic oil, artichoke
, spinach, pine nuts, mushrooms, parsley, and rocket. Very tasty.

I hope you feel better soon KimeyDiann and you get to enjoy your weekend with hubby.

On a different note, anyone been to Mallorca? Worth it? There is a cheap deal I've seen, all inclusive resort with a pool. Basically i want to go somewhere with a pool so i can practice my swimming every day. I don't want a typical beach holiday though and even though it's all inclusive would venture out away from the hotel. Just want to know whether there is enough there to see and hear explore as well. The scenery looks pretty so that's a plus.

message 1131: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Sounds delicious, Sarah. I might try it with eggplant instead of mushrooms, but I like the idea. I don't know of places around here that do that specifically, but I could probably request it.

I've never been to Mallorca, but would love a beach vacation anywhere right about now.

I have been to Mallorca a couple of times but I was very young so I don't really remember it all that well. A friend of ours goes there on holiday quite regularly with her husband and they both love it. The capital, Palma, is meant to be a nice city to explore.

message 1138: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Margo originally posted that the book was free with no link. When I went to Audible to check, it was not free. So, she added a link. Her link worked. I think the confusion was that I posted that somehow it is free with her link, but not free if I went directly through the site.

message 1140: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We have government elections coming up on Wednesday. A very right wing nationalist party (led by Geert Wilders) was most popular in polls lately, but the last few days not anymore. He scares me. Because the Dutch government works with a coalition and oppisition he could never grab all power, but if he wins he can form the coalition. However, all other parties have said they will not form a coalition with him, so I have no idea what happens if he does win. Imagining him as our prime minister is just weird. Kind of like during US elections what it was like to imagine Trump actually being president.

The polls say that all parties will get 24 seats max (coalition needs at least 76), so it will be quite a challenge to form a coalition, no matter who wins, because they will need at least 4 parties.

I'm very curious what will happen.

message 1141: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Oh no, good luck with the elections, Peggy. Hopefully, even if he is elected he won't be able to form the coalition.

message 1142: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments I was just reading an article about him, Peggy, and his latest declarations to de-Islamise the Netherlands . I agree, he scares me too.

We had a state election on Saturday in Western Australia. They were predicting our version of Geert Wilders was going to win at least 11% of the vote. The reality on the day was 4%.

Here's hoping it's the same for you guys, and not the surprise of the US election, when people get to the ballot box.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finally got news about the grant I applied for. I'm not through to the next round. I feel a bit sad because it was so much work and the studies were nice and I would have liked to do them, and it's not nice to be basically told that you're not good enough. But on the other hand I know now where I stand and that I'm really going to do something else from September on. Scary, but exciting!

message 1145: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

How is everyone coping with the time change? (for those of you that live in an area that observes daylight savings time). I normally don't have too much trouble with it, but I'm struggling this morning.
