Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm not big on makeup either. Like you, Sarah, I used to wear it daily in my teens (although it was always quite subtle) but now I hardly use it at all. Most days I don't wear any but if I do, I just wear mascara, a little bit of powder and lipgloss/lip balm. On rare special occasions I might wear a bit more, such as a skin tint for fair skin and eyeshadow. I have always had sensitive skin which has only become worse thanks to my ongoing health problems so I find a lot of products really irritate my skin now which limits what I can put on and how often.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments My wife's makeup sounds about like Kimeys. I still find it too much. But I don't want it touching me is the problem. It's like don't touch me if your make upped. Wash it off then we'll talk

message 1004: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I only wear mascara unless it's a special occasion. Then I'll wear foundation, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara and lip gloss. But it's all applied very lightly.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I mostly don't wear makeup either. When I do, it's to try to hide my acne scars, and it's not very successful, lol. But a bit of judicious eye makeup seems to be a good thing for me. At least in my eyes.

My husband always avoids letting me lean up against him when I'm wearing makeup because he's afraid I'm going to get it on his clothes! LOL.

Speaking of makeup, this video showed up on my facebook newsfeed last night and I thought it was relevant to this conversation and hilarious!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So I apparently caused much drama last night. I asked on WhatsApp if anyone knew the type of left arm pain associated with a heart attack. They told me go to hospital. I asked my wife she freaked out said go to hospital. I said no I want to be sure it's the right type of pain. It did feel like she described. I said I'm just gonna go to bed if you hear me dying call 911. Somehow as I lay there I felt a knot in my upper back. I pushed it and my arm throbbed. Ah hah. Now I found my heart attack. It's a muscle spasm instead. Massaged it went to sleep. Wake up this morning my wife telling me she got no sleep because all those people on WhatsApp were calling her worried I was dead because I wasn't responding on my phone. Oops. My bad. In hind sight I guess I should have passed my discovery along. I still can't believe that little knot caused so much grief. Nothing around that spot hurt and it was a ways away from my arm

message 1013: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Oh god Travis. Never mention chest/left arm pains on the internet. Or in public. I used to get pains across my chest back in the day in my old job where my office was under the public access ramp. Turns out, my desk was too shallow and I was cramping my diaphram. But got myself and my staff concerned a few times. My staff just got used to me hanging from the pipes (on the ceiling of my office, running under the ramp) every now and then to stretch it out. Talk about a workers comp claim there waiting to happen.

Glad you're feeling better. Hope Mrs Travis gets a good night's sleep tonight!!

message 1014: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I dealt with chest pain my whole life. A few years ago I had it with the addition of shortness of breath. After umpteen tests I had anxiety/depression which was causing it . The shortness of breath was farmers lung, black lung, whatever you want to call it. I breath in lots of nasty crap. I wear dust masks when applicable now . Funny all these issues popped up several years after I quit smoking. Surprisingly for being such a heavy smoker my lungs when x-rayed were in very good shape actually

message 1021: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Lol no, the dust that comes from livestock poo is bad for our lungs. Specifics depend on animal to animal. For me, the airborne dust from chicken poo when cleaning the coop can be nasty, I need to not breathe while scraping and go into to the clean air.

I think if I had a barn of cows like Travis, this would be much worse.

My eyes were playing tricks on me and I read "airplane poo". There was a news story a couple of weeks ago of a chunk of ice from an airplane that crashed through a residential home. I guess it was airborne too.

message 1023: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Glad to hear all was good Travis. You'll never live it down with your friends/family though. Chest pain has many causes annoyingly. I went to a&e with chest pain once and it turned out to be a spasm in my intercostal muscles. The only reason I went though was because the pain was similar to that that my partner experienced a few years previous when his lung collapsed! I had a friend once thought he was having a heart attack but it was a panic attack. I also had my nan ring me up once when she was on holiday with indigestion and an achy shoulder. I told her she needed to go to the doctor. She didn't, finished her holiday and then when she got back she was rushed to hospital with a heart attack - she'd been having it (or a number of) for a couple days! Tricky to know when to do something about it and when not.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Chest pain is so scary. I'm glad it was nothing. Assuming it really was nothing and not just that the pain subsided... like Sarah's nan. I've heard lots of stories like that one, so I tend to err on the side of caution. I might also be a bit of a worrier. Just a little. Not much..... I don't think I'm fooling anyone here. lol

message 1027: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've got a migraine today so I'm off work. I only had a couple of hours work planned anyway and I've been able to rearrange things. No painkillers in the boat though and I'm nowhere near a shop so my only option was to take a cold and flu remedy which has some paracetamol in. Better than nothing. Now I have to wait until my partner finishes work to bring my something stronger. Oh well. Its not the worst one I've had as I'm still managing to focus, type and actually see the screen.

I was in Bournemouth at the weekend for another section of the course I'm doing. I also got to go swimming in a private pool with only myself and my friend which was fab. Got to practice my swimming and I also did back crawl for the first time. So now I can swim with three different strokes. I am so impressed with myself and my progress considering I've only been doing it since mid January. Such an achievement.

Kristie | 19323 comments Sorry about your migraine, Sarah. They're the worst. I've been suffering with them a bit lately too. Had one yesterday and it's still bugging me today. Hope yours goes away quickly.

Great job on the swimming! I'm considering taking a class too. I used to have my lifeguard certification and was thinking about getting certified again, but it's been so long since I've done any swimming that I might need help meeting the prerequisites. You seem to be making great progress quickly.

Yikes! I hope your migraine passes quickly too, Kristie. When I had migraines, they generally lasted one day and then I'd have a "migraine hangover" for another.

message 1035: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments On my course at the weekend we were looking at limiting beliefs which was really interesting. Of course we had to practice techniques on each other. I picked to work on the belief that "I am no good at reading non-fiction". I realised that i actually read a lot of non fiction in the form of course notes, websites and research papers etc. And i find them interesting, helping and enjoyable to read and they also help benefit my life in some way. By the end of the technique, i couldn't wait to get home to start reading the textbook assigned for the course. Sad I know. I read the chapters I needed to read today plus some other stuff yesterday. I got a sample for a non fiction book today and loved it, got all excited and have bought it so lets see how things so. I'll let you know when I finish it :-)

message 1036: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments Hope you like it Sarah, non-fiction can be awesome. Sometimes you just have to find the right subject, Neurology sounds like a good one.

message 1037: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks Dawn. Perhaps I wasn't reading about the right things. We'll see.

Thanks for the swimming congrats. I reckon you'd be surprised Kristie how quickly you'd get up to speed.

Migraine has eased loads now i've been able to take extra tablets. :-)

message 1038: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments For some reason Sarah's post about limiting beliefs reminded me, I never updated all of you on how my month of no complaining went! I came to the realization that I don't complain as much as I feared. After reading the article I shared, I really expected that I complained without being aware of it, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I don't. It may have helped that February had nice, mild weather and work was particularly un-stressful. I did catch myself complaining some of course, you can't live your life and not complain on occasion, but most of the things I complained about were legitimate gripes. I did become more aware of the people around me complaining and many of them do it a LOT. Overall, I consider the experiment a success. It makes me feel better about my perception of myself as being a positive, upbeat person.

Sarah - I hope so! I am so out of shape right now.

Glad your migraine has eased and you were able to get your tablets. Medications don't seem to do too much for me.

Janice - I get the migraine hangover too. A day where I'm exhausted. I feel so drained and just yucky. I would love to take that day and just sleep. Though it doesn't usually work out that I can. I try to at least get to bed early that day.

message 1040: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Congrats on completing your complaint-free month, Kimey! That is a real challenge. You should be quite proud of yourself to know that you don't complain a lot, except legitimate gripes. Honestly, if it's legitimate, sometimes it needs to be said, not just for your sake, but the other person may need to hear the issue.

I am loving my course. I'm learning lots which is great and it's really helping with my work. Lots of studying to do but I quite enjoy nerding away at it. It's the best thing I've done in a long time.

I'm trying to open a bottle of vinegar and it won't work. It probably has some kind of childlock on it. Makes me feel very incompetent.

I seem to struggle with my tin opener. I very quickly become annoyed to the point where I want to throw it out the window and my partner has to do it. Perhaps it's time to buy a new one.

message 1045: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Peggy - try running the cap under hot water for a few minutes and then use a towel to grip the cap and turn it.

message 1046: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks Cherie! I'll give that a try. I'm worried though that it will come off and all the vinegar will be over me/the floor as well ;-)

I haven't used a tin opener in ages Sarah. All tins here (with very few exceptions) have this little opening thing on them (similar to what you find on soft drink cans), so you never need any tools to open them.

message 1047: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Some of the tins have those pull things on but not all unfortunately.

I often do this when I'm struggling, but I've generally been doing it with my right hand first. Not sure which succeeds though. I'll have to keep an eye out.

message 1050: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I don't think I have enough strength in my left hand/arm to open a jar that I can't even open with my right hand.

My mom gave me this superhandy thingie that helps you open any jar without difficulties. Hard to explain, but this picture shows how it works:
