QUESTIONS?: UNO Team Challenge

Can I use any of the author names or only the anthology editor? Then I'm assuming I can use any location/character used in any of the the stories. Anthologies can fit so many cards I'm actually wondering if they are even okay to read for this xD
On a related note, where is the cut off line for when a character's name can or cannot be used for a card? A few of my team members have asked and my answer has been "if you took the character out and the plot wouldn't change then that character can't be used." Is that about right?

For anthologies, yes use the editor. We are ok for characters and settings in the anthologies - it does mean you can probably cover a lot, but we felt it would be too mean to ban them ;)
With characters, that's about right. We generally want them to have some dialogue and meaning to the story. Not just a hotel bellhop called Victor that opens a door, for example ;)

Yes

It depends on the book. If it is described as 'Los Angeles' in the book, for example, then that would be the location (not the state or the country).
If they start in LA and do a road trip to NY stopping along the way and there really is no main setting then you would use the country name.
Hopefully that makes sense!

Audiobooks are okay to use. You'll use the information from the default edition.

For example, will Seer of Sevenwaters work for seven?
Also, how about this for location? Seven Gates Cemetery? I'm not sure what state or city that is yet but it's from The Sinner

No for embedded words.
With the location I haven't read the book, so can't definitively say.
But if that is the setting that the book refers to then that is what you would use.
For example, I'm reading Pearl in a Cage at the moment and it is about a small town called Woody Creek. Although they refer to the town being in Victoria, in Australia at some point ; it is only ever "woody creek" so if I was deciding the setting for it then I would say the town name.
Or for an example where the setting is not a town, with the first Harry Potter book, I would consider that setting to be Hogwarts.

Location, makes sense to me! Thanks!

Yes. Uncle isn't his name, but an honorific of sorts.

Usually they are full of pictures so would be like graphic novels where the word count would need to be verified

It needs to be the characters name or nickname in the book. I'm not familiar with that name so i probably haven't read the book and I can't say definitively

How do we verify the word count?

Some books can't be verified unfortunately. But a couple of good sites to check are:

arbookfind

So please only use arbookfind for verification.

We ask Captains to verify wordcounts for books that are marked as children's, graphic novels, or poetry. So, for example, If your book has lots of images and isn't a book where the page count can be relied upon then it would need a word count to be used

Thanks

Characters should have some dialogue and be meaningful to the story. So with Non fiction, it depends on the book.
For example, a memoir is non-fiction, but because it is told like a story you can use the characters as per the usual character rules. If the book is more like a factual account of something - let's say a battle during WWII, then Churchill wouldn't be a character as he is just mentioned as part of the facts, he isn't there as a character.
For titles, it is whatever the title is on Goodreads (not the subtitle) and we use the editor where there are multiple authors.
I hope that helps!

Yes, they can be started in February, but they need to be finished in March. :)

The cover on the book below i would consider red by according to the color breakdown in the link for the march color scheme it is mostly brown. So does that mean that although most people would call this book red I can not use it as red because the color scheme?

There is a thread in the Captains group specifically for these kinds of things as sometimes the colour extractor is a bit off because of the difference with image colours.
But since you've asked the question here, this one has "mandarin orange" as the primary colour, which is actually red to a human eye and we accept it as red. :)
