There seems to be some debate over how to index Welsh names with the ap/ab (son of) prefix: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com...
However, it does appear that including it as the last name and alphabetizing by it is the more common modern method in use.

Do you concur with the variables as I proposed changing them (in my original post)? Thanks so much for your time!

So: Dafydd ab Hugh. From everything I've found, this author's surname (properly, his patronymic) is "ab Hugh", and his given name is "Dafydd". I'm planning to edit his author details to reflect that, but wanted to run my plans past somebody to make sure I know what I'm doing since I'm newly-endowed with librarian status.
Firstly, the name itself. The English Wikipedia, the Internet Speculative Fiction Database (http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?1), The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (http://www.sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/...), and LibraryThing (https://www.librarything.com/author/h...) all sort this author by "ab Hugh". I haven't come across anything yet that shows it as just "Hugh"—except for us.
Secondly, the "Editing Author" page. The best guidance I've found in the librarians' manual is here: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2.... I'm going to list here the fields and what I'm inclined to put there, and please tell me if I'm all wrong.
* name: Dafydd ab Hugh (no change)
* sort by name: ab hugh, dafydd
* shelf display name: ab Hugh, Dafydd
* gender through twitter username: (no change)
* genre1: I'm inclined to change this from "Science Fiction & Fantasy" to the pull-down option of "Science fiction" and then change genre2 to "Fantasy". I can't find any guidance on this, though.
That's all I have. Thank you ever so much for your time and help!
