I finally read Angie Thomas's The Hate U Give and ... whoa.

The fact that Thomas is a debut author blows me away! Not only does this book contain an incredibly important topic, the plot and characters are thoughtfully developed, the balance of tragedy and strength resonates with the reader, and the writing feels cinematic in its depiction of scenes and emotions. Thomas really hit the ground running with this one.

I was amazed for many reasons and highly recommend it (though I know many of you have already read it!).

This is one of my favourite books from 2017. I was lucky enough to get an ARC in December and was SO glad when it stayed on the NYT list for so long. I'm loving all the buzz about it, it's such a relevant book and, like you said Melissa, it's SO well written. Everything comes together and it's put so well together that I could picture this being made into a movie- it certainly read like one. Starr was a fantastic character and really gave me a new perspective.

Heck yeah Star Touched Queen fits. Many of the inspirations behind the book are Hindi or other Indian storytelling. Such a pretty book!
