Yeah I really struggled with this book :( It made me sad. I'm glad I finished it though because so much happened with the other characters. Thankfully the whole book isn't about just one person otherwise I would have DNF it.

Shelf : Mythology
Date Read : 2-23-17 through 3-3-17

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan

Rating : 3 Stars

This book is very obviously a Young Adult novel. I loved the Greek Mythology that was incorporated into our modern world. I read the Percy Jackson books years ago and I remember liking that about those too. These books take place in the same setting as the Percy Jackson novels. It even brings back some of the characters from that series.

Jason, Piper, and Leo are all friends who go to a school for troubled kids. They go on a field trip and chaos ensues in the form of Greek Mythology monsters attacking and trying to abduct them. They find out that they're demigods, the children of humans and Greek gods. They go to Camp Halfblooded and find out about this other world that they never knew they belonged to. Jason doesn't remember anything about his past.

The inner monologue was pretty immature, but the story starts right away with the mystery and action. The one liners are over the top and most of the time not that funny. I do not care for the catty junior high girl drama.

There is a lot of secret keeping during the plot between the characters. It was obvious that if they just came clean with each other it would help their quest and solve a lot of their problems. It sort of made the story drag. I found myself just wishing I knew how it ended so I didn't have to make it through the whole thing.

I bought the audiobook and listened along while reading the Kindle so I could get through it faster. When I read the Percy Jackson books I was much younger so maybe my tastes have matured since then. I thought this book was okay, but just too immature for me. I don't think I will read the rest of the books in the series because there are so many other book out there that I know I will enjoy more.

5 Steamy Stars <3

"Make him uncomfortable. Don't take no for an answer. Push. Push him until he loses control. Remember, fire melts ice."

Brenna is a wolf changeling who has previously been kidnapped and tortured mentally and physically by one of the Psy. She is deeply damaged by this and is struggling, but she is very strong. She is drawn to Judd for a reason she can't explain. She continually seeks him out for guidance and comfort.

Judd is a Psy defector. He escaped from the PsyNet when his brother and their whole family was sentenced to rehabilitation when their mother committed suicide. He and his family now live among the wolves. He is so deeply into Silence and he has no desire to break it. He was on the the Arrows that the Psy council used as assassins. He is as Psy as you can get. He has something called dissonance which is if he starts to break silence it causes him extreme pain and can be detrimental to his health. It was conditioned into him as a child.

"She awakened something in him that was raw, desperate, and violent in a way that sprang not from anger but from passion."

I really enjoyed this book just like all of the other Psy-Changeling books I've read. I like that this book was about a male Psy and a female changeling. It changed the dynamic of the relationship.

The mystery, intrigue, and suspense was very strong in this book. I couldn't wait to find out what happened and I had no clue who the villain could be. It took me completely by surprise. I loved the author's descriptions of the winter scenes and wilderness.

I had the same struggle with this book that I had with the others though. Some of the concepts of the Psy mind were hard to grasp. Some of the parts where he went into his own mind or others I had to reread. Also some of the interactions between the Council Members were vague.

I seriously love this series and can't wait to read more. Keep 'em coming Nalini!!!

Sherri | 781 comments Here is my Mythology Read. I'm still working on my vampire Guilty Pleasure one.

Shelf #6
2/22: Mythology

The Immortal Crown (Age of X, #2) by Richelle Mead
Books: The Immortal Crown by Richelle Mead
Dates Read: 2/28 - 3/8
Rating: 3.5 stars

Review: The Immortal Crown is the 2nd installment in Richelle Mead's "The Age of X" series. This is a newer series for me and although I am intrigued by the idea of this futuristic society, the "arrival" of these pantheonic gods and the main characters; I'm frustrated by the overall pace of the series which is slower than a snail.

The Immortal Crown takes place soon after Gameboard of the Gods and continues Justin and Mae journey of investigation supernatural events and the return of Gods, both in the Republic of North America (RUNA) and outside of it. As Justin and Mae dive deeper into these events they discover the "real" impact of the Gods and their servants and the affect that these have on their lives. However, the constant subterfuge, lies and hidden agendas were getting a bit old by the end of the book, along with Justin and Mae's total unwillingness to be open with each other.

Overall, I have loved Richelle Mead's adult series and that was the main reason for me picking up this one to read. Age of X is more YA than adult, but it has several very adult themes in it, so I'm not sure of the specific audience it was targeted for. However, the slow pace is killing me, along with notice from Richelle Mead herself that due to sales this series is not a top priority for her since she has to meet her contract obligations. If it can be wrapped up in a single book I may continue with it, but otherwise it may get left behind in pursuit of other frequently released series.

Review:
5 stars
Just as good the 2nd time around.

I have loved every book that I have read by Suzanne Wright. Burn is easily one of my favorites. She quickly draws you in to her world of demons. I could picture myself as a member of one of the demon lairs. I love Knox and Harper so much. Knox is the ultimate Alpha male. Harper is a strong, feisty, badass chick who constantly surprised Knox and could hold her own. Fast paced, well written story. I even enjoyed the secondary characters and look forward to them hopefully getting their own books.

3 Stars

I loved the first half of this book, but at about 50% the whole tone changed. The first half was a light and funny read, but then stuff gets heavy and complicated. I didn't enjoy the second half so much, so I gave it the three stars.

The first 10% of the book is exactly like the synopsis says, but reading it is laugh out loud funny. Soraya is living in New York and she works for an advice columnist. She rides the train every day to work and one day notices a very attractive and very angry man. She overhears his phone conversation and notices that he acts like a huge asshole. He unintentionally leaves his phone on the train and she picks it up. Instead of instantly returning it she keeps it and snoops on him. She is intrigued by what she sees, but I honestly didn't understand the fascination because he was just so mean. "You may also want to look in the mirror and consider the fact that an ugly personality is a far greater deterrent than an ugly face ever could be."

I wasn't truly invested in the story until Graham's POV came into play. I loved his character at that point, and I loved their relationship. I loved that Soraya was confident and didn't apologize for her being different. I really enjoyed their sexy and funny banter. Their chemistry was hot!! "I needed a glass of wine and an orgasm. Not necessarily in that order." Perfect description for my feelings about this book.

Then comes the plot twist that completely changed everything. Soraya became very wishy washy and insecure. I didn't understand her insecurity around Genevieve. Graham gave her no reason to feel that way and if anything he did the complete opposite. I felt myself getting very annoyed with the constant "if I wasn't in his life blah blah blah". Her resolution to what she perceived to be a problem in their relationship infuriated me. It's like the strong, confident woman that we met at the beginning of the book completely disappeared.

I don't know if I will be reading any more of this author's books. I just didn't enjoy the turn the story took. I understand there needs to be conflict, but the change in the MC's personality really disappointed me.

Book:Killbox
Date finished: March 12
Rating: 3 stars

*fingers crossed my laptop stays connected long enough to post a review. I have a whole rant about that but we'll save that for another day*

Killbox. Fourth in the series. It has been years since I read the previous installments and I thought the time in between may have been the reason I only gave this book 3 stars...then I looked at my reviews of the other books and my thoughts on the series really haven't changed much.

Best part of the book, the characters are written to make you feel the feels. Jax and March are still creating their own relationship drama. I understood the reasons and it made me feel like :( but I also thought it was stupid (view spoiler). I really like Jax as a character and I love the relationships she has formed with the other crew members and some of those goodbyes were heartbreaking!

These email-ish correspondences thrown in between two characters you don't ever really meet - I basically skimmed over them. They were annoying and distracting. It really really detracted from my enjoyment.

Still reminds me of Firefly.

I absolutely love this series! Every chapter brings excitement and action and it was easy to completely lose myself in the story. There is so much crammed into a couple hundred pages: new lovable characters, expansive world building, intense battles, and of course the witty banter and humor that I expect from an Ilona Andrews story.

Everyone has those simple things in life that brings them joy, reading an IA book is definitely one of mine. I initially thought the Innkeeper series was a trilogy and am so excited that Dina's story continues yet and can't wait to get answers to all the questions.

Date read : 3-15-17 through 3-19-17

Lover Avenged by JR Ward
Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward

4.5 Stars

This book was really good. I only had a few things I didn't like about it. Rehvenge has been introduced in several of the BDB books. He is the owner of ZeroSum which is the place where lots of the brothers hang out. Rehv is the brother of Bella which is Zhadist's shellan. He is a vampire mob boss who is half Sympath, but he is very deeply hidden.

Elena is a nurse that works for the vampire hospital. She also cares for her father who is mentally ill. She is the only provider for them so they have very little money. She is intimidated by Rehvenge, but is also slightly drawn to him. They were the most imperfect match if there ever was one in the best way. She was the perfect, naive girl and he was the jaded drug dealer. They were complete opposites in every way.

One thing in this book that bugs me is Rehv's bacterial infections. I know that something so little shouldn't bug me so much but it honestly does. If, according to the books, the vampires have increased healing rates, how can they be susceptible to bacterial infections? If you can heal a bullet wound in a day, you should be able to heal an infection.

I did not like hearing about Lash and his storyline. I do not care hearing about the Lesser's stories. I understand that some of it is important to the storyline with the brothers, but I don't care for how much she focuses onto it. He is a part of the story that just adds something that I do not care about.

Another thing that I did not like was how long it took the MC of the books to get together. So much of the first part of the book was other people's stories or other parts of their lives leading up to them getting together. I understand that you want to introduce things that lead up to other stories, but you need to focus on what is happening in THIS story. It was honestly page 235 until they finally spent time together. It wasn't until this point that the story started really picking up for me. I honestly appreciate that she introduces stuff for the next story in the present one, but she takes it a little too far. One or two stories at a time should be enough. There is so much stuff going on that it's hard to get into it. There are so many side stories it's hard to get into who it's supposed to be about.

Once things started to pick up with their relationship it was a nail biter! I was on the edge of my seat wondering what in the world was going to happen and how in the world JR Ward was going to make it work.

Overall I really enjoyed this book but had a little bit of a hard time getting into it. There are so many other side stories going on.

Cheri | 467 comments Okay guys! It's time for another pep talk. We are entering into the 10th week of BSB, and it's time to get serious. There are only 11 shelves needed to win. I understand this is for fun, but we are very far behind. We have the least amount of stamps out of all the teams except we are tied for last with two other teams. We have a great card and we really have a chance of winning, but we have to keep up with the shelf calls. We should have nine stamps by now and we only have 5. I want us to have a real shot at winning! So it's time to buckle down and hit the books. Don't forget to write your reviews! I know some of you have finished books a while ago, but still haven't written your reviews. I looked at our tracking post and here is a list of what we still need to get stamps...

Guilty Pleasures - Sherri
Vampires - Lekeisha
Futuristic - Sherri and Lekeisha
Snarky Heroine + Snarky - Sherri, Lekeisha, and Vivian
Kickass Hero - Sherri, Lekeisha, and Vivian

Please, please, please try to get in those reviews so we can whoop some BSB butt! That is all for now!
