Colbana Files series is my latest urban fantasy 'find'. Blade Song, the first book in series, was very good for a self-published novel and I was looking forward to reading more.
Night Blade was very improved compared to Blade Song.
- Plot was more focused.
- There is no slow start.
- All the characters I got to know are again here.
- A lot of action.
- Intriguing mystery.
One thing that really annoyed me is how the book ends. It's a big unexpected development and definitely added intense can't-put-it-down element to the book. On the other hand, I feel so sorry for all the bad things that happen.
After that ending, I had to grab Broken Blade right away to find out what happens next.

Already read it. :D (That's what happens when I am late two weeks with reviews...) I only need

It's not? But 8 people tagged it as 'shifters'. Look:

That is the weirdest thing I've seen in a long time.

It is weird.
I just scrolled through the whole list and itcs not there. But A Court of Wings and Ruin is. So I will read that.
Just to check something so there is no misunderstanding. You said it has to be in top shelves. Like shelf must be visible on first page of shelves listed for that book or there is a minimum of people that tagged that book? I thought if anyone tagged it with that shelf it's good to go.

Thank you Sandra for clearing that up. :)

The Iron Wyrm Affair - Lilith Saintcrow

Review: Archibald Clare, unregistered mentath (logical genius), is one of the last of his kind alive. Emma Bannon, Prima sorceress, is charged by the Queen to protect him and figure out what is happening to the mentaths. This steampunk adventure took a while to set up its world which was decidedly dark and depressing. Clare gets to flex his brain and Emma do dramatic spells bringing in a set of interesting side characters. I liked Clare and his interaction with his bodyguard, but I could not connect with Emma, her relationship to her Shield (bodyguard) or her backstory. The writing style just didn't grab me even though there were several action scenes. I don't think I'll continue with the series.

Book:

Kill Me If You Can by James Patterson
Read: 5/21/17
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: shelved 12 times as assassin
Review: I love a book that always keeps me interested and turning the pages to see what happens next and Kill Me If You Can did just that. As soon as I started the book I was drawn into the story.
A murder, diamond heist, an innocent man finds the diamonds, Russian Mafia wants their diamonds back. Matt Bannon finds the diamonds and decides to take them during a bombing in Grand Central Station.
I loved the suspense of this book. The Ghost that was hired to kill the man that stole the diamonds and return them to the Russian Mafia. The crooked cops that have to help find the diamonds after the Ghost murders the thief and the diamonds are stolen before the Ghost can retrieve them.
There was action, suspense and even some laughs. I enjoyed all the characters and the writing of both authors. I have never read a book by Marshal Karp but I will be looking into some of his writings.

Prudence by Gail Carriger
Read: 5/17/17
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
A good start for a new series. Since it's based on the world already familiar from the earlier series, it felt like an enjoyable return. Prudence was a good leading lady, but I must say she fell short of her mother's compelling character. She'll probably grow into it during the course of the series. India was an exciting location, but sort of an unnecessary backdrop, there solely so that the heroine would have a reason to travel in her snazzy dirigible. A great deal was made of Prudence's ability to assume any preternatural form , and it proved entertaining if a bit of an easy solution at times. Side characters were likable, although the old ones were much more interesting than the new ones and I would have wished they had made a longer appearance. All in all, an enjoyable read and I hope there'll be a lot more of it.

You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'assassins'.
[Your updated BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
Good Job!! :D

If my eyes are not deceiving me, we now have all the shelves to complete Bingo (pattern type 4). We only need to read all the books.
Read like the wind, girls! Read like the wind! (Or Johnny 5.) ;)

Naked in Death by J. D. Robb
Read: 5/28/17
Rating: *****
Review: Wow!! I loved this book. As soon as I started the book I knew this was going to be a good read. I loved Eve!! She was awesome and I loved her attitude.
Eve gets a case that is horrific in nature. She has been on the police force for over 10 years. She is a lieutenant and is handed the case of a licensed companion. Eve is put on the case of who killed Sharon DeBlass, who also happens to have some political ties.
The investigation has a political push from Senator DeBlass and the Police Chief. I felt as I was reading that there was definitely a cover up happening. I had an idea that the person who committed the murder was powerful. I can't wait to read the next book in his series.

WOW!! I might have to take a month off to read all of them!!

Magic Burns - Ilona Andrews
Read: 5/28/17
Rating: 5 stars
How it Fits: #14 on the list
Review: Kate Daniels, now liaison between the Order of Merciful Aid and the Pack (shapeshifters), continues to do mercenary work for the Guild, cleaning up Magic gone wrong. On one of her merc jobs, she and her partner, lose their live bounty when it is killed by an unknown using an arrow bolt. Later that same unknown steals Pack maps and disappears. His trail leads her to witches doing bad craft, a young girl with untapped power, feuding gods seeking entrance to the human world and lots of secrets to keep under wraps. During all of this there are fluctuating waves of Magic and Tech getting more and more frequent, heading to a 15 hour flair of Magic when everything magical will be at its peak. Of course this will be the big battle. Lots of action, monsters, mystery and danger keep Kate busy. And, of course, Curran, lion shapeshifter and head of Pack, has his own ideas about Kate. Great series.

Etched In Bone by Anne Bishop
Read: 5/27/17
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥
How it fits: 83 people tagged as Shifters
Oh boy, did I love this book.
It was slower than some of the other in the series, but just as entertaining. You could see the conflict building but the story took its time being told, which was perfect. We got to know some of the side characters more fully, and saw the relationship between Simon and Meg deepen.
I cannot recommend this series highly enough. It is well worth the time to read.

Rebel by Aubrey Ross
Read: 5/30/17
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: shelved 2 times as owned not yet read
Review:
I found this book very interesting. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. A story of a dystopian world and with a lot of love. Kidnapping, war, and hostages and rebels falling in love with each other.
Corry and her half brother Korbin are part of a coalition trying to show the rich people how bad things really are. They kidnap the leaders young adult children to make a ransom. Well things don't go as planned as Corry and Korbin seem to fall for two of their prisoners.
I found the book a very easy and fun read. I might continue on with the series just not sure yet.

Review: Mercy Thompson, coyote shifter and 'walker', is contacted by Stefan, vampire, to fulfill a favor owed. He needs to confront a visiting vampire and he wants Mercy to come as his pet coyote to observe and remember what transpires. He suspects the other vampire of falsifying memories. The scene is bad and they find the vampire is possessed by a demon. He is on a killing spree and needs to be stopped. Soon the werewolves have joined the hunt. But the demon vampire has ways of controlling each paranormal. Mercy's walker characteristics make her an asset to the hunt. Great series; lots of tension between groups; plenty of action. Mercy has three males interested in her and dominance issues to deal with. Looking forward to the next.
All caught up!

Book: The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King
Read: 12. May 2017.
Rating: 3 stars
Spot: Owned, Not Yet Read
How it fits: shelved 2 times for owned-not-yet-read
With 28 books, Stephen King is most read author on my shelf. Yet, I can't say I am a raging fangirl of his writing. His novels sometimes work for me and sometime they don't. But I keep reading him because you never know how his stories are going to end.
The Eyes of the Dragon is not a typical King's novel. It reminded me more of a tale from some classic fantasy master like Tolkien or Beagle. There is a kingdom in peril, good prince and the evil wizard..
Because of the lack of scary elements and the overall message that good behavior pays back, I think this book would be a good intro into fantasy genre for young readers. As for us with more mature taste, it is too simple and straightforward.
Warning: If you are reading from an ebook, check the version with a preview before paying (if it's possible). There is an early ebook version that is full of errors.

There are 4 combinations that can make a Bingo. With our current stamped shelves, we have:
Bingo1: 7 out of 11 (one more if we read Steampunk)
Bingo2: 6 out of 11 (two more if we read ONYR and Shifters)
Bingo3: 8 out of 11 (one more if we read Assassins)
Bingo4: 6 out of 11 (4 more if we read Assassins, ONYR, Steampunk & Shifters)
Believe it or not, we are very close to a Bingo, we need only one field for Bingo4, when we have all shelves read that is.
One thing that I picked up is that Kickass Heroine shelf does not influence any Bingo pattern. So Monica you can skip reading it for now and concentrate on others.ETA: By the new rules, we must read ALL shelves to achieve Bingo, so disregard this.
