R14: Team #5 ~ Read4Speed

I'll mention it to Steph cause she'll need to edit the card. Her wifi isn't the best at the moment so not sure how long it will take to fix, but it hopefully won't be too long :)

Book: Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop
Read: 08. Apr. 2017.
Rating: 4 stars
Spot: Series Finished
How it fits: shelved 2 times for series-finished
The Others series was never on a best day fast-paced and Etched in Bone follows that tradition. Honestly, nothing big happens in this book. This is the book where we watch the dust settle after big catastrophes in previous sequels. If you are expecting to be swept of your feet with romance, drama and action, you are looking at the wrong novel.
But if you want one more (and maybe last) chance to hang out with Meg, Simon and other Courtyard residents, then this is it. Steady pace, a bit of character development, some laughs and a hint of HEA.
The Others series will never be one of my all-time favorites, but it was an OK urban fantasy series. I will read any sequels or spin-offs that are published in the future.

Book: Blade Song by J.C. Daniels
Read: 15. Apr. 2017.
Rating: 4 stars
Spot: Assassins
How it fits: shelved 12 times for assassins
Blade Song was crammed into a huge pile of Kindle freebies I have. Who knows when I would have picked it up if I didn't need a book for a challenge (and I was on vacation so my options were somewhat limited).
For a novel that was a freebie and is self-published, Blade Song was not bad at all. At the beginning I felt like the story wandered around and it took some time until the plot focused. But when I got into characters, the second half of the book was so much fun: action, mystery, kick-ass heroine, witches, shifters and a bit of romance to spice it all up.
While it can never compare to urban fantasy series from big-shot publishers like Kate Daniels or Mercy Thompson, Blade Song was a cute little uf that I will definitely continue reading.
Recommended for fans of lesser-known urban fantasy series like 'Rylee Adamson', 'Blood Destiny', etc.

I'll mention it to Steph cause she'll need to edit the card. Her wifi isn't the best at the moment ..."
Thank you Jennifer for noticing and Sandra for notifying Steph. :)

Book: Where She Went by Gayle Forman
Read: May 2, 2017
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: Shelved 31 times as series finished
Review: I had trouble at first getting into this book. Once I figured out the way the book was written I was able to enjoy the story. This book is written in the present and past. You go back and forth between Adam in the present day and Adam remembering the past. This is the continuation of Mia and Adam. This book starts 3 years after the accident.
Mia went off to Julliard and left Adam back in Oregon. The ordeal that Adam went through when Mia left and he slowly lost contact with her was heart wrenching. Adam has anger and angst which does help him become an awesome song writer. Which than helps propel Shooting Star to stardom.
Mia is doing well for herself as a concert cellist. Adam happens to go to a concert in NY prior to him having to leave for a tour. Mia and Adam spend time together and things are revealed. They both have grown and changed. They are both keeping things because of a fear of hurting each other. Do they finally achieve the happiness with each other or with someone else?
I am glad I read this series and will actually look for more books written by Gayle Forman.

It was tough for me too. At the end I picked some random book by one of my favorite author. Never heard of it before, but hopefully it will not disappoint.

Book: Exit Strategy - Lena Diaz
Read: 5/4/17.
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: #1751 on the list
Review:Sabrina Hightower awakes to an assumed burglary but instead abducted and drugged. The man who takes her, Mason Hunt, is an enforcer for Exit, Inc. an undercover vigilante organization. He was supposed to kill her but was contacted by another enforcer, Devlin Buchanan, who left the organization, and claims she is innocent. While he verifies the truth of this and questions all his past work for the group another enforcer, Ace, is sent to eliminate both Mason and Sabrina. Someone in the organization has been issuing fake orders to cover up an earlier fake order and things have snowballed. Mason had joined Exit to take out the bad guys who had been proven to be unreachable under ordinary laws. Now he had to figure out who had gone bad and stop the death of innocents. This was a high tension thriller with a slew of dead bodies by the end. Really looking forward to the next in this series.

Book: 'Til Death Do Us Part- Amanda Quick
Read: 5/8/17
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: It is #685 on the list
Review: Calista Langley runs an exclusive 'introduction' service in Victorian London with the assistance of her brother investigating client backgrounds. An arrogant ex-suitor wrongly assumes Calista will take him back even though he is now married. Shortly after sending him on his way, Trent Hastings arrives to check her out. He is suspicious of her service, which his sister has joined. Both are intrigued by the other but the interview ends coldly. However, the next time they meet, when Trent comes to apologize, Calista is upset because of a third threatening memento she has received. Trent being an author of detective fiction offers his limited skills in finding out who is threatening her. This has all the hallmarks of a typical Quick intrigue. For me a very satisfying comfort read.

It seems it's the older Kindle version had those problems and they fixed it later. I just saw at Amazon people complain in reviews. I will have to check with their support if they somehow can switch me to newer version of the book.

A refreshing take on a classic theme. The protagonist is an engaging young woman set on doing things her way with unexpected results. Paired with an old school wizard, fireworks ensue. I really couldn't predict where this novel would take me but I certainly enjoyed the ride.

Thank you Linda. :)

Book: Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Review: WOW!! This book surprised me. I really didn't know what to expect when I started this book!! I loved the whole concept of there being multi-universes derived from our choices. I found myself remembering how I always wonder what would have happened if had chosen something else. Went down a different path, etc.
This book starts out with Jason, Daniela and Charlie in their house preparing dinner. Daniela makes her husband go to his friends party to celebrate his award. He does this reluctantly and that is when his whole life is altered.
To read a story based on a possibility of a physicist being able to create something that can take you down the different paths that could of happened if you had made a different choice, was just mind boggling. The ending leaves you wondering and I would love to see what happened.

I picked up Dark Places because I enjoyed the mystery of Gone Girl. But Dark Places failed to fulfil my expectations.
There were no unpredictable twists and surprises in plots that leave you shocked for days. No characters so abnormal they leave you struggling to understand them.
Dark Places was (for me) classic mystery about a young woman who investigates the murder of her family. One small unpredictable twist in the story and that's it. This is not a book that would entice me to read more from the same author.
Now I am left wondering which of Dark Places or Gone Girl was a fluke and should I give Gillian Flynn another chance...

Once you get past all the typos (like Dragana said there are many and once I started paying closer attention there were even more. The funniest being I'm pretty sure every time the word "faster" was supposed to be used the word "easter" was used instead.) the story and characters were very enjoyable.

When I copied the card at the beginning of the game, Kickass Heroine was in the bottom right corner. Don't know what happened since then.
