Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper
Read: 3/14/17
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
2 people shelved as Snarky Heroine
I'm a fan of vampires so this book is interesting since it's not like every other vampire book. It's a quick read and the writing style is humorous. I will definitely be continuing the series.

Jennifer, I hear great things about Kristen Ashley, but I never read anything by her.
Hope you both enjoy your picks! :)
Sorry for being quiet. My kid got a stomach flu and then I got it too and ... well I better spare you the descriptions. :/
At least I has a lot of time to read so I now only need to write reviews.

Book: Wanderlust by Ann Aguirre
Read: 11. Mar. 2017.
Rating: 3 stars
Spot: Futuristic
How it fits: shelved 27 times as 'futuristic'
Wanderlust continues where Grimspace stopped, but in very different tone. In the end I am left with the feeling that this book was a little lost.
+ World building has settled down and is no more overwhelming.
+- Not sure what is happening with romance.
- We visit old planets, but there are no fascinating new landscapes or species that caught my attention.
- Jax is less kick-ass and more fragile.
- Some of my favorite quirky side characters are not there, or have less focus.
I'm not sure if Wanderlust is calm before a storm or a new direction for this series. I guess I will have to read the next book to find out. (But I am not giving up on Sirantha just yet.)

Sascha Duncan is a cardinal Psy, a race which has conditioned away all emotion in order to eliminate violence. Most cardinals are strong talents, but Sascha’s is unspecified and it seems that she has feelings. As a safeguard she has been creating layers of protection around her mind. When she is selected to work closely with the leopard changelings on a joint project, she begins to react to her hidden feelings. Lucas Hunter begins to see something strange in this Psy and is drawn to her. He is also attempting to use her to infiltrate the Psy to locate serial killer. A great paranormal world with plenty of side characters for future volumes.

I had to go way down the list for this one, since I am now on a cruise and only have access to my kindle. But I found one

It is #2592 on the list

I'll read

Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley
Read: 3/20/17
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
Shelved 3 times as Kick-ass Hero
I am a fan of Kristen Ashley. I love her writing style and the way it flows. Shy and Tabby's story spans a long time, but it never felt drawn out. It was a natural progression from her being the President's daughter to being Shy's woman. I can only imagine the 'chaos' that would cause in a motorcycle club. This is a great group of characters, with a lot of heart. There were many ups and downs for this couple, and they have a heated relationship. Love hard, fight hard, play hard. I enjoyed it all.

Echoes in Death by JD Robb
Read: 3/28/17
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥
How it Fits: Tagged 3 times as Next in Series
This is going to be a short review because there is nothing else I can say after 44 books other than I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! Great mystery, all my favorite characters and a surprise twist at the end.

Book: Doctor Sleep by Stephen King
Read: 27. Mar. 2017.
Rating: 4.5 stars
Spot: Next In Series
How it fits: shelved 9 times as next-in-series
There are some books that are such are HUGE. The Shining is one of them.
When I heard there will be a sequel to The Shining I thought that Stephen King needed more money to buy house number 3 (or whatever) and that there is no way the sequel could be as good as the book that is already a classic and one of the most scary horror novels you will ever read.
BUT, the joke was on me. Doctor Sleep was a pleasant surprise. It was not as scary as The Shining, but since I don't enjoy horrors anymore as I used to, it was a good thing.
I loved the picture of adult Danny Stephen King painted for us. The genetics, our upbringing, our past, it all shapes us into a person we become. Watching Danny fight with the ghosts of his past was a moving story.
Recommended for all fans of The Shining.

Book: Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost
Read: 23. Mar. 2017.
Rating: 3 stars
Spot: Kickass Hero
How it fits: shelved 2 times as kickass-hero (second page of the list)
OK so it's official. I like Vlad more as side character in Night Huntress series than as main character in his own series. How weird is that?
Twice Tempted is my least favorite book by Jeaniene Frost so far.
- Vlad was very aloof and cold. I never could determine what he was feeling.
- The heroine Leila was very whiny, demanding and unreasonable in her requests. I didn't like her at all.
I am giving this series one more book/chance to get better. If not, I've still got yummy Night Huntress series when I crave for some fast food PNR. ;)

Then maybe I will read it whole.
I adore Ian. Especially his banter with Cat. I just read Home for the Holidays and laughed all the time. :)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Read: Mar. 31, 2017
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: Shelved 2 times as Snarky
Review: I have wanted to read this book for a long time. I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the characters and the interaction between them. Traveling the galaxy is very interesting in this book. Arthur was an interesting human.
Arthur learned about the galaxy by reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which was given to him by Ford. Ford was trapped on the Earth until it was being destroyed. I can't wait to find the next book and read it.

A Murder in Time - Julie McElwain
Read: 3/31/17
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: It is #2592 on the list
Review: Kendra Donovan graduated from Princeton at 18 with multiple degrees and entered the FBI. At 26 she is a top serial killer profiler. Then an operation to capture terrorists goes bad and several in her team are killed and one is identified as a traitor, seriously wounding her. She is furious when one of the terrorist gets a deal and goes free to catch others. Kendra goes rogue and sets up an assassination attempt. But when she gets him to meet her at a period costume event at a castle in England she finds someone else is also after him because he is an informer. In her attempt to evade the other assassin she enters a hidden passage and a time warp taking her back to 1815 and to the real people who lived in the castle. Since she is dressed as a Lady’s maid she is sent to attend a pair of ladies and some humorous scenes involving her mishaps occur. It is not until a murder occurs that Kendra feels she was sent here for a reason. She puts her skills to use but is often out of step and looked at with disbelief. I really liked this plot and the characters. It is the first of a series and I look forward to more.

Book: Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway
Read: 01. Apr. 2017.
Rating: 2.5 stars
Spot: 5 Stars
How it fits: shelved 36 times as 5-stars
If Six of Hearts was not free for Kindle, I probably would have never picked it up. And I would not have missed much.
My only conclusion after this book that magic tricks are much better when they are seen then described. I missed the wow-what-the-hell-happened factor.
As for the romance (and plot), it was all over the place. Didn't really engage me since I didn't connect with any of the characters.
In the end, one big MEH...

Book: Grave Peril by Jim Butcher
Read: 13. Mar. 2017.
Rating: 4 stars
Spot: Snarky
How it fits: #71 on the list
After one book I thought that The Dresden Files series was not my cup of tea, but this year I decided to give it another chance. Now after three books I have become kinda addicted. I like Harry and his penchant for trouble and I will probably read this series until the end.
Sure, it is written more for male then female audience, but if my husband can read Kate Daniels and suffer trough steamy scenes, I can read descriptions of sexy woman and clingy clothes from guys POV.
As for the Grave Peril it was a fun book. Mystery, action, scary vamps, it had it all. Can't wait for more dragons and to find out more about Harry's past. And hoping that Harry's luck in love finally turns for the better...

Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: #813 on the list
Review: Dina Demille is an Innkeeper and owner of the Gertrude Hunt Inn, a safe haven for Interstellar guests needing a safe place for a short or long visit. It is neutral territory controlled by Dina’s and the house’s magic. Dina is 24 and has only one long term guest. Her inn has been dormant until her arrival and is now trying to build a business. When dogs in her neighborhood are suddenly being targeted and killed by what seems to be a wild animal, Dina prods the local werewolf to take action. But it seems the werewolf, Sean, is unaware of the whole interstellar existence and his place in it. The wild animal turns out to be one of many and things escalate to involving other species and secret plots. A fun action packed paranormal sci fi tale. Looking forward to more.

Book: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Read: 4/6/17
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: shelved 162 times as Futuristic
Review:
I really enjoyed this book and I am glad that I finally got a chance to read it. It is interesting to think how books were and sometimes are still censored. To even think about living in a time where books would actually be burned and you could get in trouble for reading them. Life would be so boring. I don't know how anyone could survive.
To even think that this could still happen after so many years of being published is fascinating to me.

My book for 5 star:

Out of Time - Monique Martin
Read: 4/7/17
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: It is #4548 on the list
Review: Simon Cross, Professor of Occult Studies, begins having vague nightmares which culminate in his waking with the fear of the violent death of his teaching assistant, Elizabeth. He has spent the last two years in love with her but has maintained his distance. Elizabeth is also in love but also sees it as unrequited due to age and status. But one evening when she returns corrected papers and finds him reviewing the contents of artifacts left him by his grandfather they are both transported through time to NYC July 1929. Maintaining their relationship gets harder as they rely on each other. Since the transport happened at a full eclipse they figure they must wait 6 weeks to try to return. Getting jobs and staying low key becomes a problem when they encountered a mysterious and powerful gangster. Avery good adventure. Will look to see where they series goes.

The Elite by Kiera Cass
Read: 4/9/17
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: shelved 12 times at next in series
Review: I loved this book just as much as I enjoyed the first book. The Elite is the continuation of the final 6 potential new princess for Prince Maxon. You have Marlee, America, Celeste, Natalie, Kriss, and Elise who have made it this far.
America is torn between the Prince and her ex Aspen. She doesn't know if she still love Aspen or Prince Maxon. I have been torn about who she should be with. I am pulling for her to win and be Maxon's Princess. I can feel the connection they have with each other when Maxon and America are together. I also see how much Aspen loves America.
There is a Halloween party. And the guards, The Royal Family and the Elite all enjoy themselves. After the party one of the girls goes because of something she did. This rocks America and how she feels about Maxon.
The next assignment they have to do is throw a reception for the Germans and Italians that will be visiting. They are split into teams, 3 on one and 2 on the other. America works with Kriss on the party for the Italians. All the girls do a fantastic job.
One more assignment is having to create a project that will help the country. Mer does something stupid and learns a lot after wards about Maxon. Now the competition is heating up again since America is not going home after her stunt on the Report. I am going to be reading the next book.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling
Read: 4/9/17
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: shelved 5 times as Kick ass hero
Review: I have read this book so many times and I love it more and more each time. This is the start of Harry Potter's life. Just reading about Dumbledore leaving Harry at the front door of his aunt and uncles just starts the love of the book.
Harry is mistreated by his aunt, uncle and cousin Dudley. His aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon have vowed to make sure that Harry doesn't turn out to be a freak like his parents. They are muggles that hate the witches and wizards.
My heart breaks every time I read this book. I cannot wait to read this series again this year.
