Because of Miss Bridgerton (Rokesbys, #1) by Julia Quinn
Because of Miss Bridgerton - Julia Quinn
Finished: 2/5/17
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: #1084 on the Guilty Pleasures list
Review: The Bridgertons and the Rokesbys live 3 miles apart and have always seemed like one big family. Billie Bridgerton and 3 of the Rokesbys have run as a pack during childhood. Billie is 23 and a tomboy, partially running her family’s estate; Mary has wed and moved; Edward is fighting is America; and Andrew is home on leave from the Navy recuperating from a broken arm. Their older brother, George, the heir, has always stayed out of the fray being 5 years older. But Andrew’s return has changed things. The old camaraderie Is still there but George is finding himself jealous of his brother and seeing Billie in a new light. Billie is also becoming more aware of George. This is a quiet story of romantic discovery. Very enjoyable.

Jennifer H Bookshelf ~ Guilty Pleasures

Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts
Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts
Finished: 2/6/17
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
How fits: shelved 6 times as guilty pleasures

Declan is a Boston lawyer who falls in love with a run down New Orleans Mansion, buys it and vows to return it to it's original beauty. He has great building talent and goes right to work, His Law School buddy, Remy, lives in New Orleans and introduces Dec to Lena, a gorgeous Cajun who runs a trendy Bar and puts out untouchable vibes. Declan vows he can handle her, but, when trouble starts on the third floor at his new house and clocks chime and doors slam and he finds himself in a 100 year old mystery he wonders if he will live to love her. The story builds and builds to a marvelous climax with typical Nora Robert's ingenuity. This was a re-read for me and I enjoyed it as much as the first time.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Lovely review Jennifer. Can you believe it I never read anything by Nora Roberts. What would you recomend as a good introduction to her?

message 109: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H That is a good question...I really do enjoy almost all her stuff. The last two trilogies she as written weren't great IMO. My favorite stuff by her is written under her pen name J. D. Robb. The 'In Death' series is my favorite series of all time.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 716 comments I think her stand alone romantic suspense are her best. I liked The Search by Nora Roberts of her current work. I am not as fond of her magic stuff. I think others do that better. And I didn't particularly care for the wedding trilogy.

Sorry I didn't check in sooner. My kid got an ear infection so he is super cranky. Plus my mother came for a visit.
I finished the book for gulty pleasures shelf. I just need undisturbed time on a pc to write a review and browse the new shelf to find a book to read. If not today then tomorrow I promise.
I'll update the master list then too.

I sent a pm to Monica a couple of days ago to check how is she and on her book progress, but she didn't respond yet.

As for Nora Roberts. I will check out the books you recomended and see if something looks interesting. Who knows maybe even I fit it into favorite series shelf. ;)

Book: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Read: Feb. 3, 2017
Rating: 5 stars
Spot: Hunters
How it fits: shelved 29 times as 'hunters'

Review:

As soon as I started reading City of Bones I knew it was going to be a new series that I would like. It grabbed my attention from the very first chapter.

Clary starts seeing things and begins to wonder if she is crazy. As the book progresses she starts learning things about her mother, father and who she really is.

I really loved her friend Simon. He is like the comic relief in the story. All the characters were interesting. Now I have a new series to complete.

This book wasn't as funny as the original 'Seduction and Snacks' but still thoroughly entertaining. At the end of the day I was just happy to read more about the lives of Claire and Carter and their dysfunctional friends and family. Tara Sivec definitely has a unique writing style that makes you want to keep turning the pages even during the awkward and embarrassing moments!!

Book: Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs
Read: 3. Feb. 2017.
Rating: 5 stars
Spot: Guilty Pleasures
How it fits: shelved 21 times as 'guilty pleasures'

After 5 books read in less than two weeks, it's probably already obvious that I am addicted to Mercy Thompson series. But if you haven't already figured it out - yeah, I'm completely hooked up.

Silver Borne is a perfect example why I love this series so much.
+ Kick-ass snarky heroine
+ Healthy monogamous relationship between main characters.
+ Full of emotions: love, friendship, family, pack dynamics, ...
+ Different kinds of paranormal creatures (werewolves, fae, witches, ...) integrated in urban setting.
+ Multiple plot lines colliding in an intense ending.
I would not change a thing. :)

This is urban fantasy at it's best. Highly recommended!

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews
Magic Bites - Ilona Andrews
Finished; 2/12/17
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: It is #54 on the Favorite Series list

Review: Kate Daniels is a mercenary in a post-apocalyptic world where magic and technology alternate. She has a magic sword and hides her DNA. When her guardian is murdered Kate goes looking for the murderer. Greg, her guardian and the last of her 'family', was the Knight-diviner in the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid. She gets the Order to sanction her quest. The search brings her to the attention of the Pack (shapechangers) and its Beast Lord, Curran, as well as Nataraja, head of the People (undead). Along the way she is confronted by some truly horrific beasts.

This is the start of a very good series. I'm glad I finally started it. The creatures here are portrayed differently than in other series and make for a darker adventure. I really liked the magic waving on and off; it created some interesting situations.

Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs by Patricia Briggs
Finished: 2/15/17
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: shelved 469 times at Paranormal Romance
Review:
Wow!! I loved this book. I forgot how great Mercy is!! I love her attitude and how independent she wants to be. Mercy has a tendency to find trouble or trouble finds her.

Iron Kissed is about fae's being murdered. Mercy is asked to help figure out who is killing the fae on the reservation. When she does discover who the murderer is Zee and Uncle Mike decide to confront the suspect and happen to walk and find the man dead.

This ultimately leaves Zee holding the bag for the murder. This prompts Mercy into action to prove her friend and mentor is innocence. I loved the whole story and the ending was very traumatic and brought tears to my eyes. I know I will be continuing with this series.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs
Book: Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
Read: 12. Feb. 2017.
Rating: 3 stars
Spot: Favorite Series
How it fits: shelved 35 times as 'favorite series'

After I powered trough the Mercy Thompson series I was having bad case of series withdrawal. No more books but I wanted to read more about the characters I learned to love. I thought that series set in the same world would be the next best thing...

Well I guess I was wrong. Cry Wolf could not compare even to the weakest book in the Mercy Thompson series. Why?
- Heroine is very meek and doormatty. Anna was seriously abused and she usually covers in the corner. I think her recovery will take a long time.
- Charles is too cold and closed off to be an attractive hero for me. He's not your usually growly and passionate werewolf. And his Native American looks are nothing spectacular to me.
- The relationship between Anna and Charles didn't have any chemistry.
- It's more Paranormal Romance then Urban Fantasy, because they talk more about their feelings, their relationship etc. then about the world, paranormal creatures or action. The mystery plot was neglected.

On the other hand...
+ Book is well written as anything by Patricia Briggs I have read.
+ I loved finding out more about Bran and his pack.

Cry Wolf was very boring to me. (I gave it 3 stars but it's very very veryyy low 3 stars...)
I am not sure how much the book is to blame and how much it was due to me constantly comparing it to Mercy Thompson series. I will probably read second book in Alpha & Omega series to give it another chance, but I don't have high hopes.

Yes I read it. I don't know why it's not part of the Cry Wolf it's a must read. The book starts in the middle...

Sandra | 25911 comments It's like that because PB wrote it as a short story for the anthology, then decided to turn it into a full story later on. I think it should have been added to the full story when it was published but maybe there was legal issues.

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass by Kiera Cass
Date read: 2/17/17
How it fits: Shelved 59 times Guilty Pleasures
Rating: 5 stars
Review:
I had picked this book up from the book store because I had seen it as a possible book I might enjoy. Well I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. It is the story of a world after four world wars. The world is different and United States is now called Illea.

This is the start of the series. There is a Selection of 35 girls for Prince Maxon. America receives one of these letters to fill out an entry form. Every household that has a girl between the ages of 16 and 20 are sent a letter and a form to fill out.

The Singer household has one girl who is between those ages and her name is America. America has a secret boyfriend and does not wish to fill out the form. Her boyfriend Aspen makes her promise she will because he doesn't want to have what if in their relationship. So America fills out the form and has to wait to see if she will be one of the 35 girls Selected.

When the girls are announced America is among the 35. She is surprised. Before she leaves Aspen and her break up over the fact that Aspen doesn't feel he can support America like she is used to since he is a lower caste than her family. America is a Five and Aspen is a Six.

The first encounter with the Prince is an interesting one. America feels claustrophobic and decides to try and get out to the garden because she likes to be outside. She actually almost faints in the Princes arms but he makes the guards open the doors to the garden so America can get outside. That encounter is one of many entertaining ones.

This book ends with the Final girls chosen to become the Elite girls. This is a very interesting book and I feel the rest of the series will be just as entertaining.

This was definitely a different type of book for me to read. I enjoyed this book. If I Stay is a book that looks at death and life.

The day starts with Mia and her family at the breakfast table and finding out that school is cancelled due to snow. So they decide to go out for a ride. Mia, her mom, dad and brother Teddy. They are going to go visit friends and their baby.

It was interesting to follow Mia around after the car accident. Is she going to live or die? Will Mia be the one to make the decision if she lives or dies? It was just an interesting premise and I do plan to read the next book.
