Thoughts: Well, I can't say I am not disappointed somehow because I'd be lying through my teeth. When I think of how it ended, I'm still tempted to chuck off another star. Man that ending! Seriously, this series wins every freaking award for slowest burn romance ever. Or maybe this is the ultimate example? *still ranting silently*

Awesome cast and story as ever and everybody kicked ass so okay fine.

Date Read - April 11
Rating - 5 stars
Review - I'm really torn on this book. I gave it five stars but... ugh so many aspects frustrated me! I feel like Charley and Reyes took huge steps back in their relationship for stupid reasons (ie neither seems willing to talk to the other or trust each other -UUGGGHHH after all they've been through together?!). I otherwise enjoyed the story line and was excited that Denise finally got what was coming to her (does that make me petty?).

I could see the Cyrus drama coming a mile away and was so frustrated as well. Foolish Elders...
I think Bennett would be interesting too! Jana seemed like a really great character who I wish we'd seen more of but at the same time was glad she didn't take away from Lakeside for this book. I'm always so torn on that!

Bob and his pigeon! :P I'm excited to find out more about him. I really liked Justin too. He was great for being such a rush-to-action character, I don't usually like characters who screw things up for the main MCs but he was really likable.

Review: It took me a long time to get in the mood for this book and the story went also slow, but the other half of the book was amazing. There happened so much I didn't see coming. I love a book with a good sneaky twist and the end was full of these kind of twists :) This makes me really wanna pick up the next book in the series and see how it will end.

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments Book - Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo by Leigh Bardugo
Shelf - Next in Series
Date Read - April 14
Rating - 4 stars

Thoughts:
I love watching heist movies and so Crooked Kingdom was a hit for me. Somewhere about 1/4 into the book, I imagined them some 20 year-olds and not the teens they were and I was off. If this were a movie, it was action packed! I thought the ending was just appropriate given the circumstances and I liked that it stayed true to form.

THe thing is I read Six of Crow first and then I tried the 1st book in her first trilogy. I was glad I read Six of Crow first because if read Shadow and Bone first I may have ended up not giving Six of Crow a try.

Shelf - Assassins
Date Read - April 15
Rating - 4 stars

Thoughts:
I love how Valek and Yelena's relationship is still as strong amidst all the turmoil! And it's still sizzling. The author does a great job keeping it burning and subtle at the same time.

I don't get why we should have a Leif and Janco POV but hey I do like Janco so am quite okay with it despite thinking it's not a loss if if weren't there. I find Leif boring so...
I hope if ever there would be another spinoff, it would be Reema and Valek/Yelena's kid teaming up! They'd kick ass :D

Shelf #12: Series Finished
Lord's Fall (Elder Races, #5) by Thea Harrison
Book: Lord's Fall by Thea Harrison
Date Completed: April 12
Rating: 3 stars
REVIEW:

I read the previous book of this series more than 2 years ago. May be I left too long a gap before reading this one, but I didn't like this book as much.

I liked the first part of the book. However, the second half was too boring. May be because I wasn't really invested in the story or the series as much as I probably would have been if I had read this book sooner.

There were also several plot holes and unexplained incidences in the book, which i don't really feel like going into details. Just an exampe: Dragos didn't really know much about Pia's guarding team. Doesn't this seem strange? I would have thought that considering Pia is his mate and love of his life and yada yada..., he would have personally chosen, or atleast gotten to know and approve of the five who were supposed to guard her during her visit to the Elven realm. That he doesn't really know them before meeting them half way through the book seems decidedly strange!

I did like the Peanut aka Liam part of the book. There was also a truce of sorts between Dragos and Rune & Carling, which I liked. Eva and Alexander Elysias (the pegasus) were nice additions (or did I just forget them in the previous books?) to the series.

May be the next books will get me back into this series again?

The story was still fun even knowing 'who dun it'. The ending was wonderful! Go Anna!!

Review: It was easy read. The story was well written and there was always something happening. I feel in this book there was more about the main characters and their relationships, then fighting with the enemy (there was bit of that too). I like there is few twists in the book, which I didn't see coming. I can't wait to read the next book, hopefully the next shelf fits it :D

Shelf #11: 5 stars
Cut & Run (Cut & Run, #1) by Abigail Roux
Book: Cut & Run by Abigail Roux
Date Completed: April 22
Rating: 2 stars
REVIEW:

I really, really wanted to like this book. So many of my friends rave about this series. I wanted to like it too. I wanted it to be awesome. Sadly, I did not like this all that much. It seems hyped books and me do not mesh. Whenever a book or series is hyped so much, I am wary of it because my opinions tend to be very different from the popular opinions. This was one such book.
I liked the concept of this story. I mean, the murders/mystery part. The idea behind the murders was interesting, even though the plot was unrealistic. Hey, that was okay. I enjoyed the idea, so it didn't matter.

There were several things I hated about this book, however.

1. The conversations between Ty and Zane
I mean, really, the conversations just kept running in circles. It didn't make sense to me. After finishing the whole book, it still feels like I've been in a roller coaster. My head is spinning. What is the point to having conversations if they go nowhere? It felt like a lot of verbal junk to me.

2.The plot
As pointed out before, I liked the idea of the plot. what I didn't like was that there wasn't enough time spent with it. I mean, Ty and Zane are so focused on themselves, each other, problems, angst yada yada. They make very little progress on the case, even though they seem to talk about it a lot. Then there are little intermissions where either Ty or Zane gets into some sort of mess or the other. Again, this did not move the story anywhere, except getting our poor heroes into more messes. Screamed *plot device* to me in loud neon colors.

3.The murderer
I wonder if this was meant to be a big, surprising reveal. To me, it was very very obvious who the murderer was. Kind of lowered my enjoyment of the story a little when the murderer turned out to be exactly who I knew it was. I was seriously suprised when neither Ty (who was supposed to an ex-Recon Marine) nor Zane (who was supposed to be this super analytical genius) suspected even a little bit about who the murderer was. Dudes. Seriously?

Ty is supposed to be this ex-Recon super awesome Soldier, but we don't see much of his awesomeness, except when he kicked Zane's ass the first time. And Zane. Zane was supposed to be this person who was excellent in reasoning and finding patterns. I am yet to see any evidence of this from Zane. It felt all tell and no show to me.

And Ty and Zane's relationship? I'm sure most people see this as an awesome romance. Me? I think that is one unhealthy relationship. Any relationship which drives one to self destruction can't be a healthy one.

I just hope the next book turns out to be so spectacularly awesome that it drowns out the disappointment that was this book.

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments Shelf: Series Finished
Book: Champion (Legend, #3) by Marie Lu
Date Finished: April 21
Rating: 4

Thoughts: The last book wrapped up everything pretty well. I admit I somewhat knew how it would end because I did read on spoilers when this book was all hyped up. Based on the spoilers, I was expecting a sad ending because hello "amnesia" of course. But I was surprised because I thought the ending was actually sweet. It gave both characters the chance to really make a choice knowing what they know now.

My reservations towards the whole series is mostly because of the age factor. I chucked the knowledge of them being teens and in my mind made them a bit older so I could enjoy reading it more. I'm glad I read the authors Young Elites series prior to this because I liked it better.

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments Shelf: 5 stars
Book: Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta
Date Finished: April 24
Rating: 3

Thoughts:
I rarely read YA contemporary because I have a hard time trying to relate to the characters. Melina Marchetta has a way with words that makes me invested. She makes me care what her characters are going through and make me feel like I also went through the same ordeal. I liked Saving Francesca better but this was still a great read. I'd probably end up reading of all her books before the year ends as I only have 3 left. I highly recommend all her books!

Book: Daring Greatly How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brené Brown
Date Finished: April 21
Rating: 5

Thoughts:
While this book is categorized as self-help, I don't think it's like most self-help books. It's more of like a textbook imparting almost practical information we think we knew but didn't really pondered upon, information we thought was trivial but actually has great impact. The book is not telling me to do this to become this. Rather, it is sharing important facts that it thinks I should know and let me ponder upon it and lets me make the decision where I stand. I have been reading on this author's works slowly and it really is a nice gem.
