Review:
I skipped the 2nd book in the series and jumped right into the 3rd because I found this more intriguing and boy it delivered on all counts! I had always been a fan of the enemies-turned-lovers and this is one of those books where the transition was well done. It was a constant push and pull between the 2 MCs and the burn continued until the last page. When I thought they were finally getting together and resolving all these issues and then the tension would ease, I was wrong. These two kept me waiting for their love story to get a proper ending. But oh well. Well done!
Sizzle factor? HOT

*I wrote about 2 paragraphs more but I don't know why it was cut (Goodreadsssss what di you do to my review?????) but I guess it had something to do with the emojis I copy pasted. Here's what's left of the two paragraphs lol.

Lynch didn't assert his manhood by oppressing Rosa's strength. I hate it when me go "I got this babe. I'm the man so let me do the slaying. Sit your pretty ass on the side and just cheer me on." Oh yes, he played the noble idiot somewhere in the end but hey even before (view spoiler), he already made that decision because he is a very principled man. Bah! I just love these two together!

Note: Pick it up Kait!

Kaity | 743 comments Sounds like a great read! :D Glad you enjoyed it. This game is going to be killer on my TBR :P Now I've got to read Kiss of Steel and Magic to the Bone!

Oh man! I started reading your review and had to take a moment! :P Skipping a book, you rebel! I can't do it. I have to read series in order even if the books have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

Hope you enjoy The Graveyard Book! Neil Gaiman is a hit or miss for me. I enjoy his humorous and children's books but the ones he's known for (gritty magical realism-y ones like American Gods) aren't for me at all.

Lala | 1065 comments I'll read for free space Keeper of the Night (The Keepers L.A., #1) by Heather Graham (its from SOS book shelf)

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments @Kait: Gaiman is a hit or miss for me too. I started American Gods but couldn't quite bring myself to finishing it. Maybe one of these days, just not anytime soon. I love Stardust though! I have seen the movie gazillion times, and I loved the latest BBC dramatization! It's free til tomorrow I think. Here's the link if you're interested http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07xs23j

I read the first book in this series 4 years back. I liked it, but honestly don't remember anything about it now! May be I should re-read that book and begin this series anew!

Also, I'm like Kait. You skipped book 2? O_O I am OCD when it comes to reading books in order. I just MUST read them in order.

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments Haha I feel like I should defend myself.

The thing is I was not quite taken with the MC in the 2nd book from when she was a character in book 1. I will read it, eventually because I did like the guy. And there was scarcely a mention of the characters from the first 2 books in the 3rd book. So yeah... ??? Lol.

Yes I'm ocd when it comes to series order, but that's just me. I get why you want to skip some or just come back to later when you're not in a DNF-ing frame of mind:)

And of course, since I remember nothing about the first book, so I have no idea who this character you are talking about is.

*Note to self: Re-read Kiss of Steel *

Lala | 1065 comments I like to read books in order as well and also if I start the series I need to finish it, even if I don't like it that much :D

Kaity | 743 comments Laura, enjoy your new free space book! :) I don't believe I've ever read anything by Heather Graham before.

I don't like to give up on series either, although I'm getting a little better. Usually 'meh' series just sit on my TBR for ages though.

Kaity | 743 comments Tangled Threads (Elemental Assassin, #4) by Jennifer Estep
Book - Tangled Threads by Jennifer Estep
Shelf - Free Space
How it Fits - Option 2, The Elemental Assassin series is #9 on the best of UF list
Pages - 357 pages
Date Read - January 22
Rating - 5 stars
Review - Things are beginning to come to a head between the Spider and Mab Monroe! Mab hires assassin Lefleur to kill Gin and take care of a few other tasks for her.
I absolutely love Gin and have enjoyed seeing her grow. Tangled Threads started off a little slower than the other books in the series but it was so worth it for me because of the relationship growth that took place in this book. Eeeek <333
I wish I'd read this book about a month ago! There's a slight winter holiday theme to it that would have been fun to experience in season. (Nothing says Merry Christmas more than an assassin!)
Another solid book! I can't wait to see how Gin's story continues.

Book: Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells
Shelf: Hunters
Rating: *****
Pages: 325 pages
Finished: 24.01.17
Review: This was fantastic read! I loved how fast the story went and there wasn't any part of the book where I felt like I would be bored. I like there was a lot of action and it was also funny at the same time. If you like to read about vampires or supernatural creatures I think you would like it :) It wasn't all action, there was some family drama added to the mix, which made it even better in my oppinion. Now I can't wait to start the next book :)

Thoughts

I thought the book started out depressing as there was murder on the first few pages. It then turned hopeful as the orphan boy was given a home by an unlikely community.

I loved how the way the graveyard community adopted Bod and made him their son. Everyone watched out for him in hiw own way. I loved the uncanny education he received from them. But my favorite has got to be the Silas and Bod relationship. Bod was 'adopted' by the Owens but because they can't get out of the graveyard, they had to have someone who can go out and get Bod food. And so Silas becomes his guardian. And oh boy, they were just adorable. I wish Silas would have his own book where he could be brooding and kick ass.

I won't recommend this to younger children as there are talks of murder and death and stabbing and some other topics that are hard for younger ones to grasp.

Otherwisea very imaginative and colorful story for everyone!

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments I'm done with reading and reviewing both my Hunters and Free Space books.

Yey shelf day!

message 122: by [deleted user] (new)

I have about 100 pages left in my Hunters book. I don't think I will be able to finish it before shelf call today.

My weekend was super busy. We had unexpected visitors - a whole lot of relatives arrived and stayed for 3 days. My cousin was here with her 3 month baby. OMG, the baby is so cute! Such a beautiful smile - I just melted into a puddle around that baby.

Well, the relatives left only yesterday and I wasn't able to read anything while they were here. So I haven't finished my book yet. But on the positive side, I am thoroughly enjoying my book!

Shelf: Free Space

Review: It was fun read, but the end could be better. There was too few things happening in the story, all the action was in the end and I felt it was too easy. I would have liked more interesting end, with more twists in it. I did like there was bit of romance in the mix, which made it bit more enjoyable for me. I think I'll continue with the series (I can't stand unfinished series), but not right away :)

Kaity | 743 comments Dark Challenge (Dark, #5) by Christine Feehan
Book - Dark Challenge by Christine Feehan
Shelf - Hunters
How it Fits - shelved by 1 person as hunters
Pages - 390 pages
Date Read - January 27
Rating - 3 stars
Review - ...*sigh*. I never complain about repetition in books, but every single book in this series that I've read thus far is nearly identical. The problems (heroine is 'independent' and hero wants her obedience) and word choice (dear lord! If I had to read 'Carpathian male' or 'dark eyes' or 'ebony hair' one more time...!!) are the two that drove me up the wall.
I don't feel like I was reading a romance. Julian begins the book by using the ancient binding ritual on Desari before he even meets her. I'm fine with instalove, heck I even like it, but compulsion to bend her to your will and the artificial desperation for sexual intimacy and pain while apart is icky.
So why is this a 3 star read for me? I really enjoyed the last fourth of the book and for some reason these books are 'comfortable reads' for me. It's like eating microwave chicken nuggets, they shouldn't be good but you find yourself eating a whole plate.

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments Lol Kait, you just compared it to chicken nuggets? It's not a pretty picture! Sorry the book didn't quite meet your expectations! I hope the next one does!

Thoughts

A lot happened in this book, I admit that, but it felt like this book was more of a set-up for the ultimate twist which I assume will be revealed in the next book.

I actually find the relationship between Seth and Georgina boring. The only source of "conflict" (which wasn't much) was the lack on intimacy between the two because you know professional hazard and all. So I'm actually glad something bigger than "I can't kiss you long because Im a succbus" happened. I wasn't really interested in the series before but now I can't wait to read more of these two star-crossed lovers journey to ever after ;)

Shelf #1: Hunters
Magic on the Hunt (Allie Beckstrom, #6) by Devon Monk
Book: Magic on the Hunt
Date Finished: Jan 26
Rating:★★★★★
REVIEW:

I don't think I can get enough of this series. So much happens in this book. I don't want to say too much for fear of giving away the plot, but this book was one hell of a ride. There were a couple of close calls, especially relating to Shame aka Shamus Flynn that had me in the end of my seat reading on to know what happens. I also loved the Jenga scene with Same and Stone. Awesome!

All our familiar characters are back - Allie, Zayvion, Shamus, Terric, Cody, Nola, Stotts, Hayden, Victor, Maeve, Davy Silvers and the rest of the Hounds, Daniel Beckstrom, and even Jingo Jingo. I love reading about all these characters. but I must say, I have a new book boyfriend - Shamus Flynn!

The plot went to unexpected places -unexpected but oh so good. Things are finally coming to a head. I can't wait to read the next book - Magic on the Line soon.

This is a brilliant book with an interesting plot, wonderful cast of characters, an interesting magical system and best of all, a pet stone gargoyle with a penchant to stack things.
