Rebecca Prokop (spellbound_self_publishing) | 5 comments Hi Shimira,

Lovely to hear from you! We don't usually offer proofreading as a standalone as we've been stung a few times when manuscripts haven't been previously edited, and so need quite a bit of work.

If you'd like to send 500-1000 words through however, we can do a free sample edit for you and advise if we can do a standalone proofread for you at a discounted price? If it's been previously edited and is quite clean it shouldn't be a problem.

Feel free to send me a message at rebecca.prokop@spellboundcontentservices.com if you're interested. :)

Christine (cefletch) | 4 comments Why use a professional editor?

Because writing is hard.

It takes an enormous amount of time and effort to produce a manuscript.
You want to show it to someone who will give you detailed, constructive feedback, not a vague, "I liked it," or "It was okay".

I check for typos, sentence problems, and repeated or missing words. Believability of characters, realistic dialogue, conflict and pacing, descriptions, weak verbs, passive voice, and attributions are all included.

Keep in mind that fixing all of the above is the easy part. Creating a compelling story is so much more difficult.

Don't worry if your work is full of so-called errors. Don't be afraid of imperfection. If the story is good, it will succeed.

I will treat your work like a precious gem, showing you where to cut, where to polish, when to embellish. In short, how to make it better.

Proofreading is a vital part of preparing your manuscript for publication.

A poorly edited book is the hallmark of the amateur author.

I’m particularly interested in mysteries, thrillers, short stories, literary fiction, general fiction, YA, and non-fiction.

I am a huge fan of British fiction, and I am very comfortable working with UK authors.

I love working with new authors! Please contact me for discounted rates!

I follow Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam Webster, and I’m experienced editing both US and UK English. I offer a 1000 word sample edit for anyone who wants to see if we'd be a good fit.

Sylvie Cote (sylvestar) | 5 comments I offer freelance editorial services for both sci-fi/fantasy and romance genres. My editing specialisms include developmental and copy editing.

I'm happy to sample edit up to 1000 words of your manuscript, and include a write-up to any questions you'd like answered about your manuscript. That way, you can decide if my editing style and feedback meshes with your revision style.

Message me or email me at sylvie@feministeditor.com. Or, visit my website for more information: www.feministeditor.com.

Note: you do not have to subscribe to feminism to work with me! My feminist leanings have more to do with my specialty in academic editing, as well as looking for any stereotypes in fiction writing that might accidentally alienate your readers. (:

message 74: by Christopher (new)

Christopher (chrisrow83) | 4 comments My feedback is prompt, organized, honest, and constructive. I believe in encouragement. As a writer myself, I know how much work you’ve put into your novel, and I won’t waste your time. Tell me what areas you struggle with, and I will give it special attention. I take a teaching approach and might include links or book recommendations so that you can learn as much as possible about how to fix your manuscript.

Here are some of the things I will be examining:

Plot structure
Pacing
Character development
World building
Plot
Dialogue problems
Scene structure
Theme
Detail consistency
Reader expectations being met
Confusing wording
Developmental editing does not include proofreading or any changes to your manuscript. I may mention how often I saw typos, or what sort of grammar mistakes were most prevalent, but I don’t correct it. I sometimes take proofreading work from established clients if my schedule permits.

I charge approximately $7 per 1k words. You will receive a written report (usually 3-6 pages long) and in-line comments on your manuscript.

For a quote, please contact me on my website

message 75: by Annie (new)

Annie Lima (anniedouglasslima) Need a final set of eyes on your manuscript? Although line edits and proofreading for actual errors in grammar, punctuation, etc. are my "thing", I also check for repeated words and comment on wordiness, awkward phrasing, passive voice, unclear descriptions, etc. While I'm not a story editor as such, I do point out big-picture issues like inconsistencies in the plot or problems with character development when they stand out to me.

My rates vary from author to author. Before I quote someone a price, I normally ask to see a few random pages from the middle of an unedited manuscript, and then I check to see how many and what kinds of errors there are. That way I can estimate how much time and work will be involved when I go through the whole thing.

Feel free to contact me by email for more details. AnnieDouglassLima (at) gmail (dot) com.

message 76: by BookEdits101 (new)

BookEdits101 | 4 comments Hi Everyone,

I co-run Book Edits 101 with two other professional editors with 25 years experience between us.

We offer beta-reading, editing and proofreading services for authors, all at one affordable price of 101 (in any currency).

Over the years we've seen the level of authors using professional editors decline as the number of self-published books increased, and on speaking with many authors we found this is due to the costs involved. Many authors can't afford upwards of £500 for a full edit, when there's no guarantee they'd ever make that money back.

So we created an easy price structure that we hope will help many authors who may have skipped the editing phase completely otherwise.

Our unique combined development and copy editing will offer you feedback on plot and pacing, structure and characterisation, as well as spelling and grammar.

If you'd like to know more, you are more than welcome to visit us on our website (www.bookedits101.wordpress.com). You can also send us a PM here on Goodreads or a direct email at bookedits101[at]gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you!
Jacqui, Megan and Paige

Michelle Tikalsky | 6 comments I am a published author and blogger. I studied journalism and creative writing at University of Minnesota, Mankato. I enjoy using my free time to read because it allows me to escape the real world for a while.

The rate I charge is $20 for a beta read or a line edit. I will get back to you in less than a week.

I look for characters, flow, inconsistencies and anything you feel like I should pay attention to for a beta read. For a line edit, I fix grammar mistakes and syntax.

I prefer young adult and new adult. Depending on the story, I may be interested in others.

Christine (cefletch) | 4 comments It's a brand new year and I have some openings for Beta reading and editing.

I am a professional literary editor and I am always looking out for exciting new writers. I am offering my services at very reduced rates (sometimes free) because I want to encourage newbies. Writing is hard. Encouragement and constructive criticism are critical.

My niches are mysteries, thrillers, literary fiction, and "women's" fiction. However, I am an avid reader and if you have something special in a different genre, I may be open to reading it. Give me a shout with a sample, and I'll let you know. I do not work with erotica or extreme violence.

I can be reached via my website www.Booksmith-Editing.com, or you can message me here if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Abby (abby_j) | 1 comments Hi all! My name is Abby, owner of Abigail Ray Editing Services. I’m a freelance fiction book editor with an M.S. in Publishing. I offer developmental editing, substantive editing, and copyediting services. I’m currently accepting new clients for January 2020 and beyond. New clients get a discount of 10%.

With a developmental edit, I read and evaluate your manuscript for pacing, plot, world-building, character development, and other major and minor issues I might see—and you receive an editorial letter of about 10+ pages detailing my feedback.

With a substantive edit, you receive the same thing as a developmental edit with the addition of in-line comments on your manuscript.

With a copyedit, I evaluate your manuscript for consistency, accuracy, spelling, grammar, and punctuation using an industry-standard style guide. My services are detailed on my website here.

I specialize in science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction. Outside of this, I also edit mystery and romance. If you don’t see your genre listed, no worries! I’m always open to consult on your project.

I offer free consults where I sample edit the first 1000 words of your manuscript to show you how I work and help us both determine if I’m the right fit for your project.

Feel free to visit my website at abigailrayediting.com and if you like what you see, submit a request through the contact section, email me at abigailrayediting@gmail.com, or PM me on here! Hope to hear from you soon.

Catherine Thorsen (cartaedits) | 4 comments Hi everyone.

Congratulations on your manuscript!

Carta Editorial Services is now booking for late March.

My focus is on telling a great story. The story you just can't put down, even after it's finished, the characters that stay with you in your every day life; the world you lose yourself in.

I specialize in Domestic Thrillers, Magical Fantasy, Women’s Fiction and Paranormal YA. My aim is to help you improve your manuscript through encouraging and constructive feedback and advice. Editing can be hard at times, but it should never be scary or feel impossible.

I am a member of IPed, and qualified through SfEP and EFA. I live on a farm in Eastern Australia with my partner and too many cats.

- Kate.

Paige Nutter | 1 comments First of all, there is so much hard work that goes into stringing together the right words to tell the story you've been daydreaming about for ages, so congratulations! With the help of my services, I would like to help you see your manuscript from another perspective!

I have been voraciously reading books since elementary school. It's been a constant in my life that I couldn't live without. At the moment I'm mostly reading YA books, but I'm open to adult and middle grade. The only genre I'm unwilling to read is erotica.

I also have a background in writing. My day job consists of writing, assisting with, and critiquing technical plans that must meet set federal regulations. On the other side of the scale, I also write YA Fiction in my spare time.

This gig will include one or more pages of notes on characters, setting, plot, and pacing. I will also include comments within the document of initial reactions and fix grammar mistakes with track changes.

If you have any questions or if your manuscript/short story is more or less than the amounts above, contact me and we can make adjustments accordingly.

Thank you for considering my services!

Silvia (drumgenie) | 47 comments Happy May! What a strange time we are all going through, and just know that I hope everyone continues to stay healthy, safe, and happy as we all move into an ever-changing new normal. I hope you have the opportunity to find some 'you' time, which can be difficult to manage with home and professional obligations. Be kind to yourself, we are all struggling in one way or another. Make sure you take that minute to just breathe (something I have to remind myself to do LOL!).
I am currently taking bookings for August and September; I know, a longer wait time than usual. I also have only 1 remaining VIP open for 2020. So, if you simply cannot wait until August or you are planning to publish multiple books for 2020, please get in touch about becoming a VIP! The VIP package gives you no-notice bookings, as well as additional discounts and freebies!
If you haven't already, go ahead and check out my website to view my services, pricing, and testimonials! Feel free to message me directly, fill out a form submission on my website, or email me at silviasreadingcorner@gmail.com

Stay healthy, stay safe, stay happy. Be kind to others and yourself. And if you need an ear, I am always around <3

Jessie Wolf | 3 comments Quarantine has everyone finishing their novels so if you’re looking for someone to beta read and/or edit your new manuscript, look no further.

I know money can be a bit of problem, especially at the minute, when trying to find a good reader/editor so I am offering a full and comprehensive beta read and/or line edit for $50, no matter what the length of your manuscript (if it’s less than 50,000 words it will be charged at 0.001/word).

I have been a professional beta reader for over 5 years and have worked on many projects across different genres. I’ve been an editor for 2 years. In my spare time I read extensively across all genres so am happy to help with whatever project you may have.

If you would like to send me your MS or are interested in finding out more, please send me a DM. I look forward to hearing from you.
