message 11: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1 comments Hello folks!

I'm an experienced beta reader. If you would like more details about my what all I have done you can read my profile. Also, please feel free to check out my website. http://www.EditsbyMarie.wordpress.com

This is what I look for when I beta read:
-plot holes
-continuity
-character development & unique voice
-general story flow
-pacing
-story structure

The things I offer for line edits are:
-suggestions on sentence structure
-stylistic grammar suggestions to help with pacing, cohesiveness, and clarity
-re-writing sentences to fit the story, character, plot point, etc.
-looking at the story as a whole and offering creative, stylistic, and language commentary

I look for these things when I do light copy editing:
-repetitive words and/or phrases that stand out
-basic grammatical errors
-typos
-clarity
-cohesiveness
-verb tense

I look for these things in a hard line edit:
-everything from the light copy edit
-every grammatical error found
-word(s) omitted
-inconsistencies

What I do not do:
-deal with a nasty customer

My set price for beta reading is $0.0005 per word. My offer is fairly simple for editing. I will line edit, lightly copy edit, or do a hard copy edit for your work. The first 5,000 words of your novel, or novella, are free! I do this so that you can see what I'm offering, quote a price for you, and then you can decide if you’d like to work with me. I will never go over $0.02 per word for any of my services. I generally start out at $0.001 per word, and the price increases based on the amount of work, and the services, that you are asking you.

If you are intrigued you should know that I am willing to read just about anything. However, I do have a few things I cannot handle reading about. I will not read about zombies, rape, clowns, excessive blood, explicit gore, torture porn, and horses that eat people. No, I'm not kidding. I've literally read a book about that. It was horrifying.

What I will read is 1st person, LGBT+, BDSM/kink, erotica, high fantasy, modern fantasy, science fiction, young adult, new adult, urban fantasy, religion based stories, mysteries, suspense, dramas, and if it's not listed you can always ask! I love a good story. It is my passion to help people bring their worlds and characters to life.

Please contact me if you're interested. You can reach me through my profile here, my email address RiverandRupert@gmail.com, and/or my website http://www.EditsbyMarie.wordpress.com.

Amelia Hipps (amhipps) | 1 comments Hi. I'm so glad you're looking for an editor for your book. Having someone edit your hours of work can be an intimidating thought, but it shouldn't be. Let me tell you a little about myself and why I decided to start Elite Word Design.

My name is Amelia Morrison Hipps, and I spent almost 20 years in the community newspaper industry as an editor. I led staffs to over 115 awards, and I have over a dozen awards for my reporting, editorials, and personal columns.

While I burned out of the industry in 2012, my love of words never left me. Since leaving, I've made a living doing editing, freelance reporting, public relations, and publication design. But I kept coming back to the one thing I missed the most about the newspaper industry – coaching writers and polishing their writing.

So, I decided to start Elite Word Design, which lets me do what I love – work with authors to polish their manuscripts.

Since leaving the newspaper industry, I've edited two non-fiction books, two adult mystery/suspense novels, and a juvenile, historical fiction novel. I also formatted one novel for CreateSpace and Kindle.

Working with these authors ignited a spark inside me to focus full-time on editing and working with authors to make their books the best they can be. Whether you chose to go the e-publishing or traditional publishing route, I have the skills to help you get there.

Here are some testimonials from clients:

“I hired Amelia to copyedit the manuscript for my latest book, and her work as spot-on and immensely helpful. She went above and beyond, recommending some contextual edits, and delivered the manuscript in record time! I’ve recommended her to numerous colleagues and won’t hesitate to hire her again when the need arises.”
Erica Napoletano
Author, Speaker, Consultant

“Editor Amelia Morrison Hipps of Lebanon, Tennessee, gave the manuscript careful attention, and it was her observations and insights that helped develop the distinctive voices of the primary characters, especially that of Mary Francis (Fannie).”
John Bush,
Author

“Amelia has done wonderful work! I was in a rush and not only did she get my did she get my query and manuscript turned around in a week, she kept the voice of my work, yet polished it up to be excellent in tone and formatting. I would suggest if you need any editing done, you hire her. I can vouch for the fact you will not be disappointed!”
Barbara E. Harvey
Early Childhood Expert, Parent Coach, Author, Speaker
Parents, Teachers, And Advocates, Inc.

Because I'm new to Goodreads, I'm offering 50 percent off any of my services to the first three authors who tell me they found me via Goodreads.

Please check out my services at www.eliteworddesign.com, and know that you receive three rounds of editing with all of them.

I hope to hear from some of you soon. And even if I don't, best of luck on your book!

Best regards,

Amelia Morrison Hipps

Sophie | 1 comments Hi!

I’ve recently started out as a freelance editor and have professional training from the UK’s Publishing Training Centre in their Basic Proofreading Course (Distinction), but only have limited experience. I would love to collaborate with some of the authors here, offering an introductory offer in exchange for the experience and a testimonial if you are satisfied with my work.

My proofreading involves checking for spelling, grammar and punctuation, as well as ensuring consistency of layout and style (for example, chapter headings) and of any names and places. I can also give you feedback on how your work ‘flows’ suggesting changes if necessary, whilst still letting your voice shine through. This is your work after all – I’m just polishing it up where needed!

The introductory offer for Goodreads members is £1.00 per 1000 words for a basic proofread, including everything above. I am UK-based, so prices are in GBP, but I can edit anything in English.

You can email me at CarmineProofreading@aol.com or message or reply to me here. Don’t forget to let me know you’re from Goodreads so I can apply the discount!

Thank you,
Sophie

Rosalie (roi-bree) | 5 comments Craven Books

I crave books. I love to read books. I love to write books. I love to edit books. These are fundamental facts about me.

My specialty is developmental editing. When doing an edit, I like to look at the story, dissect all the different parts, and put them back together again. When giving feedback and making suggestions, I ask the author dozens of questions about aspects of the world and characters they have built. I ask these questions, because the reader will ask them, too. It's just better if I ask them first.

For more information visit my website: http://www.cravenbooks.com or send me a PM.

Aidana WillowRaven (aidanawillowraven) | 4 comments Hello,

I'm a book cover artist, designer, illustrator, and editor; specializing in original artwork (vs modified stock imagery). Links to my website, blog, and social media networks can be found below.

I love reading and being a part of books coming to life. My personal library fills seven six-foot tall shelves full of hardcover tomes of everything from David Eddings, Terry Brooks & Robert Jordan to Stephen King, Robert B Parker & Shakespear. Needless to say, I don't have enough time to read as much as I want to.

I'd love to be a part of your book, too.

Juan Zapata | 1 comments Hey! I'm Juan Zapata, a senior at Alabama A&M University. I received a traditional 3-book deal from Owl Hollow Press in April, 2017, and my debut novel, Golden Skies, releases June 12th. Before I got to this stage, I had a lot to learn about writing. Indeed, I suffered a lot under the whips of my ruthless editors lol - knowledge that I can now offer in return.

Often times, many writers (especially me when I started out) commit easily-remediable and common mistakes such as telling instead of showing, ineffective sentence structures, passive voice, etc.

I want to help you shift your style away from any bad practices, so I'm offering to evaluate your first 1500 words in-depth for only $5. Turn around time wouldn't be more than a few days - probably the same night if I got nothing to do (which my senior year is a piece of cake, so that'll be the usual state of affairs).

Let me know! Send me a PM and we'll get the details sorted :)

P.S. If there's nothing wrong with your work, you don't pay a thing.

Carol Tietsworth | 9 comments The kind of editor I am:

I know exactly what I can, and cannot do. I am an experienced copy-editor, and I am also a professionally trained proofreader. I rely on my experience and my vocabulary to read your manuscript, correct any obvious flaws, and then hone it to the best of my ability. In the honing process, I offer suggestions to remove over-used words, and give you options to clarify your voice, by rearranging passages, fixing tenses, and taking away any jumbled or hard to understand areas, sort of a bastardized version of line editing, to present you, at the end, with a cohesive document.

I am not, nor have I ever said I was a content or developmental editor.

I am also not a genie.
I cannot guarantee anything past what I say I can do.
I also keep all correspondence between my authors and myself, so later, if someone says I promised developmental or content editing, I know I did not.
I am a reader. And because I am, I know, for the most part, what readers like.

Katherine Gale-Han (katherinegalehan) | 1 comments Hi there,

I'm a book editor who can help make your book shine and increase your chances of great reviews. After over a dozen years in the corporate world, I decided to focus on editing my passion: books! I promptly signed up for a post-graduate program in editing to add to my English Lit BA.

I'm now editing full-time and offering 50% off "new to freelance editing" prices for May/June editing booked by April 30, 2018.

A free sample edit of 1000 to 1500 words from your manuscript is provided by me first to ensure the level of editing or proofread is what you're expecting. Depending on the service requested, I provide suggestions directly in your file and/or suggestions in a separate Word document.

For rates and more about me, you can visit my website at www.katherinegalehan.com or send an email to info@katherinegalehan.com. (Remember that it's 50% off my listed rates for inquiries until the end of April.)

Happy writing!

What better time to book your service than now? For the month of June, I'll be offering 10% off all services that are booked in June. My name is Alexa, and I am a freelance manuscript editor based in New York City! I have a BA in English, a minor in Creative Writing, and a Masters in Publishing (I've got lots of editing experience just from my courses taken there!) My specialties are Young Adult and New Adult fiction, and as such I've also got a special place in my heart for romance and erotica. I offer developmental edits, line edits, and proofreading. All of my services start with a complementary edit of up to 5 pages and I provide a full style-sheet for all of my clients. As I'm just getting started establishing my business, I am currently running a launch special of $20/hr, and am open to payment plans if need be. I have more information on my website below, but if you or anyone else you know sounds like they need someone and you feel like we may be a good fit, shoot me an email at hello@alexabitsko.com or PM me and we can get connected!
