SOLVED. Fantasy Series/Book Elf Heroine on Quest. [s]

Hi-

I don't remember many details about the story- it is a part of a large series set in the same universe with different protagonists. Read around early 2000. I remember the cover more then anything.

Cover- Young elf women crouching on tree root with her hand leaning on tree with staff/tree branch in other hand. Her hair is short/shaggy brown, she's wearing tatter brown and greenish clothes. The setting is swampy/smoggy with green, yellow and brown themes.

What I remember- A young elf women is on a quest set on an island or swamp. She has to venture through a wood/swamp for a quest. She discovers powers and strength through the story and has companions and I think a love interest that is not the main plot. She may have a staff.

Another book in series takes place in a tower/castle that has someone trapped while spirits/huntsmen surround and torture and try to lure the main character out with magic and illusions.

Can't imagine the swamp plot with a young elf on a quest could be so popular that there'd be more then one!
