Oh, and if you haven't read All the Light We Cannot See yet, that one got rave reviews everywhere. Occasionally compared to The Nightingale, though I often find myself recommending them in reverse--The Nightingale to fans of All the Light We Cannot See.
The Only Alien On the Planet by Kristen Randle.excellent. excellent.
It's not about an alien, but I can't tell you the main story because it would be a huge spoiler.

The synopsis is fairly vague so that won't be a problem. I'd steer clear of the reviews though.

Because of your time limit, I'm going to do something I don't usually in this group and suggest a couple I haven't read: The Underground Railroad and Dark Matter were BIG favorites with librarians this year, and I like to think librarians have pretty good taste. ;)
