Tanja Glavnik (tanjaglavnik) | 3 comments I've been trying to find this book I read years ago, and I'm pretty convinced it's not White Fang even though the description definitely sounds like it.

I read it at least ten or even fifteen years ago, and from what I can remember of the story it's something to do with the gold rush in the Yukon area (or maybe it wasn't Yukon ... but it WAS a harsh, cold, unforgiving landscape), and it involved one dog specifically who seems to get attached to a person. Again, it sounds a lot like White Fang or Buck from Call of the Wild, but I've recently reread the latter and it's not it.

There are also at least two men involved who want the same woman, and MAYBE this woman is Inuit, or part Inuit? The key thing I do remember, however, is that there's a fight between the two men, the "right one" (right for the woman, that is) wins, and he and the dog both trudge through the snow towards the cottage/tent where the woman is. An alternative, since my memory really is foggy, is that the dog is by the woman's side and not with the man at all, and they both mourn the guy who they think is dead?

I distinctly remember the dog watching as the man ducks inside, the woman is overjoyed, and beyond he can hear the river roaring below the cliffs. I think the dog then leaves to go with the wolves or something, now that the right man is with the woman to look after her.

I *think* it's a Jack London book. It certainly sounds like it, but I can't for the life of me find it, and it's driving me bonkers! I probably sound like I'm raving what with all these alternatives, but I've tried to come up with as many details from memory as possible. Any help is much appreciated!

Angela | 625 comments It's been a long time since I read it, so I'm not sure if the plot points match, but Kavik the Wolf Dog by Walt Morey Kavik the Wolf Dog by Walt Morey immediately came to mind. Any chance that could be it?

Adele | 1431 comments I feel like I read this too, but cannot think what it is.

Possibly Snow Dog by Jim Kjelgaard Snow Dog but I am not confident.

Tanja Glavnik (tanjaglavnik) | 3 comments Hello again,

unfortunately, a search through my local library didn't yield any of the above-mentioned books, which makes me think it wasn't any of them since I do remember I read it in my language (Slovene) and not English, which means by rights there should at least have been the author in there. The search continues, but thank you for the suggestions thus far!

Kathy | 56 comments This is Kazan (1914), also printed as Kazan, the Wolf-Dog, by James Oliver Curwood, the second-most-famous writer about the Klondike. (The first is, of course, London, and the third would have to be Peter B. Kyne.)

Tanja Glavnik (tanjaglavnik) | 3 comments THANK YOU SO MUCH!

It actually wasn't Kazan, but it WAS Baree, Son of Kazan, which I don't think I would have found if you hadn't pointed me in the right direction!

So again, thank you to everyone for your suggestions!
