Yep, even I fell on love with audiobooks. Do you use Librovox app for free audiobooks? Check that out if already haven't :)

Great to hear you will be starting on this month's pick :) Hopefully we will have something to discuss about this book on its thread. I have to resume reading this book though :D

Thanks a lot, Manju. :) Yep, looks like a good start this year. But last year was similar, but later I had such a reading drought that my year ended up with me reading only half the number of books I planned to complete. Hopefully this year is good :D

And you have a great start too, with 3 books :) Great going.

Sankara Jayanth S (sankarajayanth) | 1158 comments Review of The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy

I liked this book. Certain thoughts and situations in the story reminded me of my own life or the lives of the people I know. This is essentially a book that delves into the mind of a man who suffers to accept the fact that death has come knocking on his door even though he seemed to be leading a righteous, proper life. This is a book that looks right in the eye of a man who's sentenced to suffering in bed due to his illness, be warned.
...
...
...
I have a grandfather at my home who is bedridden since approximately 5 years. So my hands trembled while reading certain parts of this book and made me think and widen my understanding of what my grandfather's suffering might feel like, what must be going through his mind every single minute of the day, day after day. Sigh! This was a short read, but a very dark and profound one.

00:17: At this point, I can safely say my day starts at 00:00 and ends at 00:00 on the next day(technically night), thanks to the temporary OCD caused by my new year goodreads resolution. But I'm sure I'm not alone in this kind of nocturnal activity.

09:37: I'll read Small Great Things today, no excuses. At least a few pages.

22:43: Have been switching between reading and listening to the audiobook. I can't help but feel helpless, angry and anxious with every chapter of the book.

23:50: So, I did manage to read quite a bit of this book today, thanks also to the audiobook. I previously said the story is paced well enough, but now I'm starting feel it's a little too slow sometimes.

00:00: Not feeling sleepy as usual. Listening to the audiobook. At this time of the night, my eyes don't have the energy to read.

00:14: Jesus, this book is so taxing. Once I finish this book, I'm going to read something cheerful and jolly and light. Like 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' by Richard Bach. Anybody reading this, please do suggest such books. Please!

11:00: Started reading book #7 of The series of unfortunate events. Need a break from Small Great Things.

20:59: Spent most of the day trying to sleep, sleeping, trying to get rid of sleep. And then dealing with headache. So yeah, haven't read much today.

11:50: Completed book #7 of the series of unfortunate events. Headache still troubling.

12:13: I've started Farseer Trilogy #1 Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, hope I enjoy this series.

It is a character oriented fantasy and lovely lovely writing. If slow pace don't bore you down, then its worth every second you spent on it. Just don't expect too much.:)

Yes, yes, her lists have a lot of huge fantasy series and she seems to love reading them. :) Hey recommendations will take a few years to complete :D @manju

message 74: by Sankara Jayanth (new)

Sankara Jayanth S (sankarajayanth) | 1158 comments @Em Sure, would keep that in mind. I did notice it is a bit on the slow end of story pacing, but the writing and the setting up of the world is captivating. And the protagonist being a 6 year old at the beginning is quite interesting for me. :) A pup to accompany him is the sealing deal for me, I love when animals have good roles in books or movies :D

I'm enjoying the book, it is so slow but delightful all the same. Oh, did I mention that Mondays suck? It seems like I did. Oh God, I need another coffee to cope with this workday.

11:58: With the aid of an audiobook, I was able to progress with the reading and the story is beginning to pick up pack and action. Enjoying it so far.

Book readers are usually nocturnal animals ;) We make up for the lack of time to read during daytime by staying up late. :D And by the end of the week, one is so sleep deprived that he wastes the 2 days with headache and sleep :D lol
