2017 Reading Challenge - Need a recommendation!

I'm getting prepped for my 2017 Book Challenge (52 books in a year - easy peasy), but my first book category is "a book recommended by a librarian". Since I don't know any librarians, I thought I'd ask for a recommendation here. Pretty please and Thank You!

Hi Tara,

I took a look at your "read" shelf and what you had rated 5 stars and so I feel comfortable recommending you try Brandon Sanderson as a fantasy/sci-fi author. I have loved almost every book I have ever read by him but I would recommend you start with The Final Empire. It's the first of the "Mistborn" trilogy but they're all great. (By the way, Sanderson himself also recommends this as the best place to start for his books). I must warn you though...you may get hooked like I did and he is such a prolific author that you might get sucked into all of his other books!

Seeing that your most read author is Louis Lamour I can heartily recommend News of the World by Paulette Jiles.
Since you rated The Martian highly, I think you might enjoy the science fiction of Jack McDevitt. Moonfall would be a good starting point.

Thanks, Alan! I do love me some Louis Lamour! My parents actually have a big plastic tub full of his books that I raid whenever I go home for a visit. I'll check both books out. Maybe I can fit one in another category as well.

I really quick compared books with you, and it seems like we have pretty similar tastes :) some of my favorites of the year were Six of Crows, An Ember in the Ashes and These Shallow Graves. So I would recommend any of those three!

Another option you might want to try is the "What Should I Read Next" form on the PPLD website: http://ppld.org/what-should-i-read-next. Fill it out and PPLD librarians will give you a bunch of options in the catalog that you might enjoy.

Oh, and I would also second the Brandon Sanderson suggestion from above! I don't typically love epic fantasies, but I think Mistborn is a great crossover for us YA lovers :) I loved it!

* It Happened in Colorado by James A. Crutchfield
* Cripple Creek Days by Mabel Barber Lee
* I Never Knew that About Colorado by Abbott Fay

I'm not a fiction reader, but if you have some really intriguing ideas, I'd like to hear them. Best I've read so far is: All the Light they cannot see - not finished yet, but so far it is a creative story about a blind girl and a German soldier. I'm still reading and they haven't met. Very good.
