Strictly speaking the City of Bristol is a county in its own right. It's on the border between Gloucestershire and Somerset.

I'll throw my hat in too (as resident Bristolian)!!! The list we're working from for this challenge dates from the 70's and Bristol counts as Gloucestershire I think... nowadays the city is also a county on its own but the suburbs to north and east are South Gloucestershire, those more south and west are North Somerset....
I dunno......I take a few weeks off from trying to keep you all in line - thanks to the DWP and PIP - and what do I come back to. Dissent, abuse and mischief making - masquerading as advice - by my fellow mods.
I have however consulted my magic 1970's atlas and you are all right....... Brizzle is in Gloucestershire it is, oo ar, oo ar.

I have just finished reading In The Cold Of The Night which is set in Cumbria so I can cross that one off the list.

O.K. Here we go -
Gloucestershire (What Alice Knew by T A Cotterell)
Shropshire (Incidents of the Number 3 by Salley Vickers)
