Danny So what are everyone's thoughts on how Jonathan was handled, what the repercussions for the clave's heavy-handedness with the Fey will be, and anything else that happened in the book?

I was personally surprised with the revelation of Magnus' father (though I should have guessed it with the mention of Lilith's co-ruler of Edom). As for that quick fling Sebastian had with his ally does anyone think that might result in something or is that too much to hope for (though I wonder if what happened to Jonathan would somehow affect anything)? As for the Clave, I think their system of governance allows for too much mob rule, as evidenced in the chapter, "Call it Peace", and is in need of some change (be it to representative rule or monarchic takeover).

Ariel BY THE ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!! THIS ENDING!!!!!!!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK. SIMON... I WAS HEARTBROKEN BUT THEN I HAD A HEART ATTACK AND IT WAS AWESOME AND I'M SO HAPPY AND MALEC WAS SO CUTE SO HAPPY FOR THEM AND BTA BTA BTA BTA BTA BTA JEM AND TESSA WE GOT TO SEE THEM BTA THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL

BTA I AM SO ATTACHED TO NEW TDA CHARACTERS I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW THIS IS POSSIBLE I SHIP EMMA AND JULES SO HARD JULES IS SUCH A SWEET BOY I FEEL SO MUCH FOR HIM BTA I JUST KNOW MALCOLM FADE WILL BE AWESOME AND BTA BTA BTA BTA I HAD A HEARTATTACK JEM AND TESSA WILL BE IN LOS ANGELOS YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTA (by the angel) Jonathan was so sad!!!!!! That dream that Clary had of her normal family... D8 To see him turned good... I wish Clary's dream had been possible. I hate Sebatian, but I cried for who Jonathan could have been.

And BTA the Clave!!!!!!!! I HATE THE CLAVE. ALL THEY EVER DO IS CREATE PROBLEMS. THEY NEVER DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!!!! GOSH DARN THEM GOSH DIGGETY DANG DARN THEM. It's pretty ironic, because in my World History class today we just learned about the treaty of Versailles. Have you learned about it? After WWI the Allies (US, France, Great Britain) created VERY harsh surrender terms for Germany, kicking the Germans when they were already down. This left Germany broken and angry, and they eventually tried to get revenge in WWII. The harsh punishment in the Treaty of Versailles is what caused WWII. When I read about what the Clace decided to do to the fairies... I'm still SO FURIOUS. This treaty will hurt them in the end. I know it. This can't end well.

Ariel P.S. Sorry for the cap lock rant. Hehe... None of my friends have finished the book yet and I'm just DYING to talk about it it was so beautiful I...

Ariel AND BTA JORDAN I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT. MAIA AND BAT... HEHE.

AND YO YO YO THAT CAVE WATER SCENE WITH CLARY AND JACE? YO.

It also doesn't help that the Accords no longer protect the Fey as of that peace treaty, as the TDA sneak peak letter showed. So not only do the Fey (who I think are pretty badass other than their tendency to create changlings, which somewhat contradicted in the Codex and a werewolf comment in COHF) get the shaft in regard to their armies, and all the reparations (including paying for a defunct Praetor Lupus and the dead of the Burren, which in my opinion they shouldn't have to pay for). They can't have weapons without individual Clave "approval" (which is doubtful to ever agree to any case) and they aren't protected under the Accords anymore, so basically they aren't allowed to protect themselves, unless it's with their fists or some magic (which I don't know exactly how they can use it). It also sucked what happened to Helen.

I really think the Clave is in need for reorganization in how it's government is structured, it allows for way to many of these mood swings of the Clave and mob rule. They need to have a stronger Consul at the very least (though now that the Clave think themselves as Rome and the Fey their Carthage, I don't know about their feelings regarding their governmental structure and whether they'd be as paranoid as the optimates were).

As for the Seelie Queen, I kind of knew it was her with Sebastian the entire time, but I'm kind of hoping their trist might have resulted in something if you get my drift (only I hope no demon blood possession would result as I don't know if the Heavenly Fire would extend from Jonathan to the subject in a case like this).

Ariel Hmm, I hate the Clave, but I don't think they need to give their leader more power. If you do that then a corrupt leader could eventually take charge *cough* Consul Wayland *cough cough*. It would not be good for the leader to have too much power. They need to give more power to the people. What they should really do is have more than one downworlder representative for each group. Let them all have votes. THAT would be more equal, letting the downworlders have a say in their own fate. SELF-DETERMINATION. WOO.

Ariel ALSO, a big problem is that a lot of shadowhunters are prejudiced and/or impulsive. This isn't fair!!!! GIVE DOWNWORLDERS A VOTE!!!

Tayla Potayta My review:

You know a book is good when it is over 700 pages and you still didn't want it to end.

I didn't realize how much I missed these characters.

I was so scared to read this book, but it turned out almost perfect.

Clockwork Princess ended perfect so I should have known she would bring it.

Authors take note! This is how you end a series.

As the Clave's government resembles both Ancient Athens and Rome in both structure and character (specifically the optimates faction of the Roman Senate), their strengths and weaknesses are inherent here. Like Athens there can be too much mob rule (which , like the Werewolves, most Nephilim, and Vampires giving the Fey the shaft. Really, at the moment, I feel the greatest structural weakness the Clave has is it only having on Consul (which is really only a chief legislator and nephilim ambassador) and the Inquisitor (which is just their chief law enforcer). They need other positions of official influence, and a real court system divorced of a potentially biased council. Now, what the Clave could really use is a system like the Tribunes of Ancient Rome, where they can go over the Council's heads and appeal to all those the legislation will affect. Anyways, my main point should really be that if the Council denies reform the way the Optimates faction of the Roman Senate denied reform, they'll make it impossible to achieve without potentially destroying their republic.

After the end of Clockwork Princess I was very wary of what Cassandra Clare might write in this book, but I'm really happy with what generally happened. My favorite characters from this series have their happy endings, and the stuff that I don't like BETTER be fixed in the next series. That's all I need to know to be happy.

Danny Hey, does anyone think the Seelie Queen's trist with Sebastian might have resulted in anything in terms of the future (I'm keeping an open mind, but it would be pretty neat, and interesting)?

Ariel Danny wrote: "Hey, does anyone think the Seelie Queen's trist with Sebastian might have resulted in anything in terms of the future (I'm keeping an open mind, but it would be pretty neat, and interesting)?"

Like... What do you think might have happened???? O.o

Paige Yin I've finished it like.. 4 in the morning, cause I really can't stop reading.
To me, this ending somewhat lose to the perfect one in TID, but it is amazing in it's own way. (view spoiler)

Somewhat, some of the plottage I've already guessed, some of them are predictable. (view spoiler)

Well, you know what Andrew Blackthorn's relations with a faerie resulted in (it would also be ironic too, considering Valentine's stance against downworlders). What I mean is if that whole scene of Sebastian and the Seelie Queen would end up resulting in any offspring, which would probably be secret, though maybe nothing more may result :(.

Tayla Potayta Will someone tell me the 6 deaths because I either miscounted or missed something lol

message 25: by Paige (last edited May 29, 2014 07:29AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Paige Yin Jordan, Raphael, Maureen, Sebastian, Amartis, Merlion? (cause 6 that we know by name)

And I am not sure if I should hide this in spoilers, but you're warned *points header*

Tayla Potayta Oh I forgot Maureen and Amaris

Kinga I think the author pretty well messed up our mental health by saying there'll be 6 deaths. I mean, I didn't expect a few of them to die, but if I have to choose, better them than Magnus or Simon.

Jonathan's death was quite heart breaker stuff for me. I didn't expect to care so much for the good side of him.

I guess the next series will be around the fey war? It's feels like it. And I need more of these characters. Like, ASAP.

Danny Hey, did the book ever explain who the angel Sebastian sliced the wings off of was?

Tayla Potayta Danny wrote: "Hey, did the book ever explain who the angel Sebastian sliced the wings off of was?"

I dont think so

Tayla Potayta Did anyone read the bane chronicles? It made me like Raphael so much more after reading them

I miss Jem and Will. And Jem is so badass when he rescues the children. XD

Laura ~Passion flower Hi Everyone!
Boy, do I have A LOT going on inside of my head about COHF, I'd love to talk about what I've been thinking today. Before I continue, I will admit, I have NOT read the book, and, I don't know if I will. Honestly, it just sounds too emotionally draining to me. What I have come across has yanked right out my heart.
For right now, I'd love to talk about Sebastian/Jonathan. I could never have imagined that I would develop the feels for him as I have. I am stunned as to the kind of feels that I've been having. Actualy, more than anyone else. I have NEVER had these kinds of feels EVER. I must be not seeing something bc these feels are worse than ANY other book that I have read (or not read)!!

SPOILERS COMING!!

I am completely aware with what he has done. Jonathan was dealt a tough and unfair hand. A tough tough life. I feel SOO badly for him. He deserved so much more. He deserved love. He deserved companionship, a family etc.. He practically had no control over what he was dealt.. It broke my heart.

So, when Clary did what she did with the sword, (AND why did it have the heavenly fire in it??) and his eyes turned their true color of green, and Jonathan was able to reveal himself and repent, that was just SO heartbreaking. What a brave boy/man to repent. This seemed to be a slow and cruel doing, he said that he felt lighter, and was able to feel both physicaly and mentally. Why? He ddn't deserve it. Jace said they were two individual people. And over the Lake?? "Forever.." Are you kidding me? Rip my heart out why don't you! And you have been! All day! And the dream?? Get me another box of tissues will you! Yes, we got to see the real Jonathan, but, for such a short amount of time, what a tease. I am glad that he was able to turn good, he didn't have ANY demon blood in him. but..he deserved so much more. Yes, he did what he did, but, he still deserved more. I had hoped and wished that he would stay around longer, since he was good.

I just saw a drawing of Jonathan, and it was I believe one of the teasers, which stated basically, how can a boy be raised as a devil, be anything but a demon. Ever since reading this, I felt even more badly for him. He's not a demon, despite how he was raised.
For this reason, at least, Jonathan deserves a good TMI ending. What about making him a Silent Brother like Jem was, or something?? That'd help him, I believe.

As I completely acknowledge the things that he has done, I feel that he is still redeemable. Everyone on this earth is redeemable. It might be difficult to do so, but, he is. Forgive. I believe, I think, Clary had some sort of doubt regarding Sebastian's being. On his being good. Yes, Jonathan would feel certainly the guilt, the shame and everything that went along with this, but, he would heal over time. Now, with what happened, I think, through "death", everything is in limbo. Forgive and heal.

I do REALLY hope that Cassie will somehow...somehow..bring Jonathan back in future books..

Laura ~Passion flower Danny wrote: "Hey, does anyone think the Seelie Queen's trist with Sebastian might have resulted in anything in terms of the future (I'm keeping an open mind, but it would be pretty neat, and interesting)?"

Gosh..I SO hope to see Jonathan again in the future.. Bring him back Seelie Queen!

Seeing Jonathan even as a vision in the future would be interesting, but regarding the Seelie Queen, I'll take it you know that the two of them were in a sort of lovers relationship and had relations together.

Now what I think would REALLY be interesting is if that led to any conception on the part of the Seelie Queen, a sort of grandchild(ren) and nephew(s)/niece(s) for Jocelyn and Clary respectively. Though for obvious reasons the Clave could never know of this unless their power was broken or they were subdued.

But if I see any kids in the two Faerie Courts in the TDA series or the one after, at the back of my mind I'll be wondering.;)

I am hoping for the presence of Jonathan TDA, as a ghost, or, even resurrected. Ofspring ok, but, only them might break me again.

message 37: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma Oh geez, I just finished this and I have no words...

This contains spoilers, please don't read if you haven't read the book!
------------------------------------------

It was amazing and really awesome. I loved the characters and I have missed this world so much!
I loved the ending and it was so much fun to see Tessa again!
Also, Clary stepped up. That girl has annoyed me so many times in the previous books, like her decisions to do whatever she wants. BUT I really enjoyed reading about her in this one, her relationship with Emma was really enjoyable. Especially when she ran after her after the meeting or whatever it was.
I feel like a lot of characters stepped up actually. I've never really liked Alec because he seems so bitter all the time but I'm happy him and Simon got to talk, also him and Jace. It was a nice chat.

The only thing that bothered me is that I didn't feel like there was a big enough twist in it. I know there was a few, but they were all very predictable. (SPOILERS) I saw the Jordan thing coming, the heavenly fire switch coming, also the Simon thing. (That they would find a cure, not the memories part. That was heartbreaking!)
I don't wanna sound like a smartypants but I did want a big shocking twist that I would never in my mind see coming. But I guess the whole Simon thing was enough though, I was so scared that Cassandra would leave it like that!

And I didn't know that Emma and Julian are the new characters in the new series! That's awesome! I loved them and can't wait to read about their adventures :)

Melissa God I couldn't even handle Simon losing his memory. Magnus's idea to make him ascend was GENIUS. I was so glad he was starting to remember everyone. If he didn't remember Clary I don't know what I would have done. Is anyone thinking like me, that if he ascends he'll become Clary's Parabatai? I'm thinking it might happen. I can't wait to catch glimpses of the surviving characters in TDA. And I'm also thinking there will be more Tessa&Jem. SO EXCITED

Michaela I loved CoHF, it was amazing.

--------SPOILER WARNING---------

@Melissa I also think Simon will become Clary's Parabatai. In the comic strip at the end he's already a Shadowhunter so it makes sense with him being Clary's best friend to become her Parabatai.

BTA BTA BTA I DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF THAT BUT BTA YES HE SHOULD BE HER PARABATAI YES I SHIP THAT SO HARD (CAN YOU EVEN SHIP SOMETHING NONROMANTICALLY?)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marina BY THE ANGEL, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO UNTIL TDA COMES OUT!!!! I was so happy when Simon started to remember again. When he forgot everything and Clary was son the floor sobbing, I was doing the exact same thing. I simply LOVED the happy ending. If anything happened to Jace, Clary, Izzy, Simon (aside from the memory loss), Magnus, Alec, or anyone else that stayed alive, I would go CRAZY! It would END THE WORLD! I wish we did know if Simon and Clary became parabatai and if Jace and Clary got married. Jace was implying it on the 2nd to last page....
These books have given me happiness and angst, but I would do it all over again. As a matter of fact, I will. Looking forward to more of Cassie's writing!

Victoria I JUST LOVE EVERYTHING AND I NEED TDA TO COME OUT
