I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I'm so mad at myself for not remembering anything from when I read this in high school, BUT it was also a good thing. Only because I got to fall in love with it all over again.
Now that I'm older I understand a lot more of the quiet references on big topics like politics or social issues and thought Harper Lee was pure genius. Being in the mind of young Scout was such a great POV, I loved it!

I've never read anything by her before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Firstly, I smiled when I realized that the book wasn't pure fantasy. It's sci-fi too! But I won't spoil it by telling you why. Suffice to say Andrews takes a lot of the typical fantasy tropes in this and revamps them in a really interesting way. I also love the relationship that Dina, the main character, has with her inn. It's sort of a sentient being...kind of, and it's a relationship that speaks to the inner desire in a lot of us to have someone in whom we can find home. In this case, it's just a wee bit more literal. I rolled my eyes a bit when the werewolf/vampire love triangle/rivalry began, but the story got delightfully meta at the end, which made the indulgence totally worth it. And there's a big mystery happening in the background of the book! *Gasp!* I need the next one, stat!

I love Lackey's books so much. The Black Gryphon I have reread at least four time. It is a good choice.

So instead of reading A Study in Charlotte, I read Throne of Glass for my "by a female author. It was alright; I marked it as four stars but it was really 3.7 stars so I just went up.
I also read Milk and Honey as "a book of poetry"; I gave it four stars.
I don't know if I'll finish Frankenstein or not though

•Read a book with magic: Empire of Storms - Sarah J. Maas
★★★★★ I can't say anything other than I am so emotionally drained I have no tears left. Just give me the next one or end my torment. Sarah J. Maas why do you do this.

Previously completed:
•Read a book with more than 500 pages: Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas ★★★★★

•Read a book with non human characters: The Unearthly by Laura Thalassa ★★★☆☆

That book sounds super interesting!

- A book from an author you love that you haven't read yet
A Gathering of Shadows by VE Schwab: ★★★★★
the first book in a series is usually my favorite. everything is fresh, adventures commencing but not yet at a conclusion. i have a hard time finding a book two that lives up to the hype and excitement of book one. not so with a gathering of shadows. this novel was rich in character development, ever evolving in its magical rules, and ramps readers up for the finale all the while making them ache for a prequel. there are plenty of unanswered questions, but the story is told beautifully and it's nice to be left guessing as to what will come next. can't wait for the third installment!!
- a book of poetry
Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately by Alicia Cook: ★★★★☆
i always love an art project. poetry seems that way in and of itself but the found word poems on side two were magical alternative readings to the original poems. kept flipping back and forth through the sides to read them together. loved the concept as a whole, and the path of growth the speaker took.

Here are my chosen topics for this challenge:

Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout - ★★★★★

Read a comic book:

I hope everyone got to complete their challenge! I'm excited for February! ;)
Finally finished another book wings of fire book 5! Love this series! I recommend it to everyone! 4 out of 5 stars!

Take the Key and Lock Her Up was a satisfying and enjoyable conclusion to the Embassy Row series, and Infini kind of broke my heart but in the best way:)
That leaves one book for me for this challenge: Long Way Home. I just started reading that one, but since both Infini and Long Way Home only came out today and I wanted to read Infini first, I probably won't be able to finish this one before tomorrow... oh well, at least I almost completed the challenge. ETA: Finished it a day late. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
This wasn't part of my challenge, but I also read Shatter Me Complete Collection: Shatter Me, Destroy Me, Unravel Me, Fracture Me, Ignite Me this month, which could count as a book I had previously abandoned. I read the first book a while ago and didn't really like it, but the entire collection was only 4.99 for the kindle so I decided to give the rest of the series a try. I still don't like the first one much, but I really enjoyed the rest of the series (Warner <3) and I'm really happy I chose to give it another chance. Shatter Me still is only a 2 star read for me, but I gave Unravel Me and Ignite Me 4 stars each.

This book, was phenomenal the start was a bit slow but later wow.... I fell in love with this characters and the story.
And I loved reading about Russia in this the period of time.
Highly recommend it

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake, which I gave 3/5 stars.
I liked it enough, but I won't say that it's one of my favorite books. I did pick up the sequel, because I am the slightest bit interested in the mystery of why the gods are dying off in the first place.
I am a big Greek mythology lover and I love books that take a different look at these characters. I won't say it's as invigorating as Percy Jackson, but eh.
I am kind of annoyed that they're trying to build up to a romance between Athena and another character, but at least they mention in the book how out of character that is.
It ended on a very bittersweet note and I was happy for that. There were actually consequences to actions and a great amount of loss. It makes me wonder how all of that will be developed in the next installment.

For my nonfic I read Sgt. Reckless: America's War Horse. I give it 4/5 stars. It was a really good book, but it tended to get a little boring at times. However, the stories about Sgt. Reckless and her bravery were amazing. Loved it.
For my Historical Fiction, I read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. 5/5 stars. Everyone I've talked to says it's one of the best books they've ever read. I've read quite a few books, so I wouldn't list it among my top five, but maybe my top 10. It's a great story and I could really tell that a lot of time and effort went into researching the book and writing it.
