I read this book when I was in grade 8 and cannot remember the title or author. I have assume it's a (young) teen book as it was in my school library. Might have been 200-250 pages.. What I do remember (in flashes) is a group of friends go up to one of the friends' house. It's snowing like crazy so they're stuck inside. They are playing games? in a study - and that's when things get weird. The friends start disappearing. I think it's the friend who lives at the house tells a story about this bizarre death?(something?), and then events in the story start happening to them. At one point they all go tromping through the deep snow and go out to the barn where someone fell off and died by falling on an upturned spade. I'm sorry I can't remember more!

I read this book in 2001. I had a look at the R.L Stine book you mentioned and that wasn't the one I'm thinking of (thank you for sharing it though!) . The main character (a guy) emailed this girl back and forth online and she invited him and his friends out to her place. I can't remember the ending of the book or any concrete phrases from it. Just random little snippets.

Your description also made me think of Slumber Party by Christopher Pike, but I think all the characters in that were girls.
