January 2017-City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
I will be rereading this series at the beginning of the year. I have not finished the series despite having all the books! I am excited.

I am totally right there with you Leela. I will have to make sure that I also read the other two books for the trilogy that they suggest you finish before finishing Mortal Instruments.

Yeah I just need to read the last book for the mortal instruments. Lol.

I am only on the third book and I am planning on finishing the series hopefully soon!
I am gonna be reading the Infernal Devices before I complete the series. Since I am reading her books in publication order.
That's how I'm reading them, Lizzie!
I have not been reading them through publication order. I just decided that I was going to try and read Infernal Devices before continuing Mortal Instruments.

This is the same for me as well. I am hoping that this will make me want to read these and finish this series.
I loved Infernal Devices! I loved this book and probably the first four in this series. I wasn't blown away by the last one.
I hope this makes me finish the series. I've read the first book in Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices. I haven't got past that in either of those.

I got through the first book kind of rough but part of that was because I watched the movie first then read the book.

Yeah, I plan to read the next one next month when we are supposed to read it. Maybe if I've got some other people reading with me I'll get through it.
I would say I have a love hate relationship with this series. I hate Clary... She's my least favorite character... But I'm obsessed with Alec and Magnus. They're my current OTP. <3 They're really the main reason why I bought every book by Cassandra Clare and continue to read this series.

I feel as Clary just seems so entitled. I don't know who hasn't read this book! So I don't want to spoil it for anyone. So I'll be a little vague about it. But I also feel as though she is so indecisive and feels this need to make a problem involve her even if it doesn't. A lot of times she is making problems worse and she knows this but does it anyways. I don't like female characters that are like this. It boils my blood. BUT, I kind of just push her under the rug and speed read through her parts so I can read about characters I actually like.

hahaha! I'm going to have to keep this in mind when I re-read this series to see if I can see this. Goodness it's been so long since I've read the series...I've burned through so many books since then...the only thing fresh on my mind is the major stuff. I'm stoked about the show coming back.

I have the unpopular opinion of not liking the show either... Omg the more I hear myself, the more of a brat I seem like! I'm sorry!

Yes my sister kind of is not speaking to me under I've decided to join her in liking the tv show. Lol.

But that's the beauty of books and shows, and i always try to keep in mind that everyone has different tastes.
That' is what makes this group amazing. We can all express our opinions and none of us get angry. We try to see it from that person's point of view.

Yes! That's why I asked Leela, because the next time I read the series I want to know if I'll see Clary differently :) and I may have thought the same as you but couldn't remember!
After watching Lily Collin's Clary and reading the book I kind of read her that way but I'm hoping that with the time that it has been since that I won't see her that way anymore.
Otherwise just enjoy the really hot characters! XD

I have to agree with you. I love the idea that she took and ran with. The thought that there could be something living right along side us is amazing. We've always had books with vampires and demons but to have one that has all aspects of everything just makes this one of the best stories you tend to think of when looking at this particular fantasy genre.

That's awesome! I dressed up as princess Laya on a dare once! But what they didn't know was that I looooved it ;).

I just finished my reread of the book today. I had forgotten so much that I'm glad I read it again. It's still a 4 star read for me, but I rarely give out 5 stars so that's a great rating. I listened to the audiobooks the first time around and they make Jace sound like much more of a jerk than the book does! I think my favorite will always be Simon. He's just so sweet and helpful and I love that he ends up saving the day when he's just a mundane.
If anyone is interested, those Ollie's stores that have popping up everywhere sell cheap books that were sent there as overstock. I was able to get the new editions of City of Bones and City of Angels with the beautiful metallic covers

Oh I love Ollies! I have not had any of those pop up in my books section yet. I do check a lot though because I want the new pretty covers.

I have the ebooks and no space to put physical books but I feel like I must buy them because they are so pretty. I checked book depository a couple days ago and City of Glass was $4 or $5.
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.
