I haven't been cheated on or cheated on anyone and I haven't been in an abusive relationship but I've read a book about a girl getting into a relationship with someone she just met and doesn't know that well and then the guy started abusing her. and I've read books with relationships and cheating in it.

that's why I like to get to know the person and be their friend or best friend first before getting into a relationship with them.
