Called it :)

From a Doylist point-of-view I get why Masoud didn't tell Grayson that he was the decoy. Structurally the book needed the twist and it lets Grayson get cranky at the military hierarchy again (of which he's now part) which is really part of the formula that makes these books work.

But I can't help but feel from a Watsonian point-of-view that Grayson would have been a much more effective decoy if he'd been told that he was a decoy. He could have gotten advice from Masoud, and done some active planning around making a lot of noise and then surviving it instead of constantly having to think on his feet.

And operational security need not have been compromised. Grayson already knows that Masoud and his SEAL team are on planet and he has no idea what they're doing. Being told that he's the decoy would not have changed that.

Anyway, I loved this.

I really hope they can get their pair of Space Battleship Yamatos working :)

Also really looking forward to see if the River-class frigates are anti-Lankie as well.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Good point about the decoys - telling him wouldn't have hurt!

It was a fun book! And I'm guessing we re on to Mars!

I really enjoyed this. It made for a very entertaining road trip book. Once again or want the book I expected though. I wonder how many books this series will be. I feel like there is at least two more.

Ctgt | 629 comments I see your point Lindsay but from Masoud's point of view I don't think he trusted anyone outside the spec-ops branch. He probably figured the decoy force wouldn't survive....a sort of tying up loose ends while forwarding the overall plan. I still don't trust him.
