Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of the Prologue and chapter 1 "BOOT" through chapter 8 "GREENLAND".

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling things for your Goodreads friends.

Please do not discuss events from later sections/books.

Suzanne | 1582 comments So, I totally thought that they would be staying on earth and fighting with the Lazarus forces - surprise surprise. A few months have passed, and Andrew is training troops. I enjoyed the training descriptions - I usually do - it's that favorite "school" trope. It sounds as if Earth is working hard to develop weapons, etc.

But the Lankies are adapting too. Andrew really thought he saw movement in the crater at the very end of this section, and although it sounds as if nothing can survive, I've seen enough movies to be worried!

Lindsay | 546 comments As I said in the discussion of the last book, the story needed them to stay with the NAC. I think it would have made sense for them to have gone with the Lazarus Brigade after book three, because Andrew was pretty disillusioned by the end of it. I think Kloos realized the sort of box he was writing himself into though and I think the outlook in this one is the first time this series has seemed optimistic. (Well, as optimistic as they get).

I think this section is mostly just reminding the reader who these characters are and what the scenario is as well as showing some of the action that we're reading for. I suspect the next section is going to be light on for a while given all this action up front.

I'm not so much disappointed that they didn't stay with Lazarus, as that he basically ignored that plotline. I was expecting it to start off with their decision to stay or not.

Ctgt | 629 comments I'm with you Suzanne, there is something going on with that seed ship. From the speed on approach to the opening of the seedpod, it seems as though the Lankies are adapting. Wonder if they injected something under the ice sheet?
