This challenge is aimed toward members who have a lot of books on their bookshelves and want to get their TBR's down.

Rules:

1) You must own these books on your bookshelf, if you don't, you can acquire them from your local library.

2) All books must correspond with the letters of the alphabet by title not by author.

3) Read as many as you can throughout the year!

Points System - TBC

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Do I have to read then in order of the alphabet? Or can i do titles in random orders and use them towards any letter?

message 5: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
You can read them in any order and you can change your choices if you don't read the book you intended to read.

message 6: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
It depends on what book it is that you want to use for that letter

message 7: by Kasia (new)

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Well right now I'm reading a book that starts with the letter I (It by Stephen king) and I want to use that towards this challenge instead of starting with a book which begins with A.

message 8: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
That's okay, you can start in any order :)

message 9: by Kasia (last edited Dec 27, 2016 01:22PM) (new)

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Also does rule #1 mean no Ebooks allowed? And if the novel's title is more than one word, can we use the other words for multiple letters? Example: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, could we use the book for H, P, and D? Or just the first word? Or any of the words? (so would we be able to use any of the words first letters?)

It's up to you, it depends on how many books you have on your bookshelf to read. Ideally, it's just your bookshelf but if you want to include an E book for a letter you don't have on your shelf then it's allowed.

And it's only the first word that counts :)

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Also sorry with all the the questions but if books start with "the" do they always count for T? Because a bunch of books start with the and it would suck if we could only use a the starting book once!

message 14: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
Don't worry Kasia :) I'll answer all your questions no matter how many so ask away!

Words like The don't count but when you list the title, make sure you include it at the end.

E.g. Hobbit, The By J.R.R Tolkien

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Holden I'm in. Two quick questions. If we can drop 'the' can I also drop 'A' ? Next harder one - how do I stop myself cheating and sneaking things onto my TBR as a new purchase for a whole year lol?!

message 16: by Tanya (last edited Dec 28, 2016 01:37AM) (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
Lol :) You can drop A and The but add them at the end when writing the titles.

New Purchases or New Books are not included in this challenge.

message 17: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Holden Only joking will try to restrain myself but can I have A Week in December as my W as I already have Accidental Tourist for A?..please

message 18: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
Yes you may :) just write the A at the end.

E.g. Week in December, A

Michelle Holden To prevent myself cheating I have surveyed books TBR actually owned now and set my list up. Who would have known SKing was an excellent source of books beginning with 'D' ! Also I reserve the right to get creative with X, Y, Z . Just saying book may just contain the letter (not even in title just in the text

message 21: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
A new rule has been added for difficult letters such as I,K,X,Y and Z. If you find titles that correspond with that letter but don't own it, you are allowed to acquire it from the library.

A new thread will be added for reviews and a point system will be added soon :)

Michelle wrote: "Only joking will try to restrain myself but can I have A Week in December as my W as I already have Accidental Tourist for A?..please "

I know you were only joking about the new releases :) I know it's hard to resist that urge to buy shiny new books :D

message 23: by Kasia (new)

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments If we have books on our shelf but forgot to add them to our TBR on GR, is that okay?

message 24: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
Yeah, if you have physical books that you haven't added on here then it counts :)

message 25: by Kasia (new)

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Tanya wrote: "Yeah, if you have physical books that you haven't added on here then it counts :)"

okay good because God knows how many books I've forgotten to add on my TBR over the months because buying books is so easy compared to finding them all on GR and adding them XD

message 26: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
I agree :) I find it easy because I don't buy books very often or at least I try not to ;)

message 27: by Kasia (new)

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments I'm slowly starting to add books on my GR from my shelf GAAHH I was like not reading for a few months so my books are splattered.

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
It's okay Kasia :) Take all the time you need, it will be worth it in the end ;)

I will make a review thread for this challenge in the next few days and also making a points system

message 30: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Holden When I finished stoner I looked for a review thread for this challenge so I could give a brief book review. Has it been set up somewhere else? M

message 31: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
Hi Michelle, it hasn't been put up yet but I will do it tonight for sure :D Well done for finishing a book!

message 32: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 19 comments What about omnibuses (two or more books in one volume)? I am currently reading a 1950 Modern Library omnibus titled "The Complete Works of Homer", consisting of *The Iliad* and *The Odyssey*. Do I count them separately?

Jim

message 33: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (bookaholic22) | 755 comments Mod
Yes because there are technically two separate books but put together in one bind up :)

message 34: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 19 comments I have updated my message #3 to reflect books that I read while staying in a hotel from February 5 to July 16, 2017 during the remodeling of my house. I listed the titles of omnibuses because I did not read the original separate editions of the books they contain.

Jim

message 35: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 19 comments I have updated my message #3 to include Orlando Figes' Natasha's Dance: A Cultural History of Russia.
