Loved. Loved. Loved. So different that the overwhelming, vast majority of science fiction that I've read. Any thoughts?

I loved it too. I think the reason it's so different is that its very character-driven vs. idea driven. And I loved the characters. I've seen some people who read it complain that not a lot happened. But I was totally into learning about that crew.
I was startled by the nonviolence theme in the novel. Very unusual for science fiction, at least in my experience.
I loved this one, too! It was great to get away from the constant themes of "dark, death, kill, rape" that seem to be so popular today. Thank goodness! I loved the entire crew.
This was actually our group read in October. You can always join in the open discussions here for spoiler free and here for full spoilers.
I'm excited to read this, it's on my list. I don't know if the sequel is out yet but after all I've heard about them I just can't wait.
