This is the delightful, yet at times melodramatic (it is nineteenth century), sometimes humourous tale of the young man Nicholas Nickleby and his family, beginning with the impoverishment of his family and the death of his father. In addition, it exposed the egregious abuse and neglect practised in many Yorkshire schools at that time. This novel has so many great things--tragedy, humour, revengeful plots, happiness, sorrow. While Dickens was not yet at his peak (many argue that he was at his best with his last novel, Our Mutual Friend, which certainly has more meat to it in some ways and an amazing amount of incredible lines, but this is one of my favourites of the Dickens' books I've read so far.

I still have yet to read this but I will some day. Glad that you liked it.

It's worth it. However, I pictured all of the characters the way they were in the movie, even if it didn't quite agree.
