Susanne Leist (susanneleist) Thank you so much for the review that I've dropped out of the group.

Melonie Purcell | 69 comments Susanne, you dropped out of the group?

message 56: by Susanne (new)

Susanne Leist (susanneleist) Melonie wrote: "Susanne, you dropped out of the group?"

Yes. I'm sorry. K.A.'s review is too similar to another review with the same Scooby Doo reference. I'm tired of authors trashing each others' novels without leaving any constructive criticism. I don't have the strength for this anymore. I'm just going to wait for readers' reviews on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I will pay anyone back who has purchased my Kindle copy.

message 57: by Melonie (new)

Melonie Purcell | 69 comments I'm sorry to hear that, Susanne. I'm sure you already notified the Mod. looks like, as a rule, most people enjoy your book. Getting ratings can certainly be more challenging than actually writing the book. Seems like that to me at least. I wish you the best.

I understand exactly your position...i know the reviews are supposed to be honest but if someone doesnt like a book there can be ways to express that dislike. I find that many of the authors on goodreads are mean spirited to their author colleagues compared to other reviewers ....I had a review in my previous group that was 90% identical to one just before that...spewing venom on the characters in the book, seems like one was influenced by the review rather than the book itself

I've received good and bad reviews before. Most reviews are a mixture of both. Like everything in life, there's good and bad. This reviewer hated my book for some reason. I'll take my chances with my reading audience. I need to focus on my second book. Thank you for your kind words.

Agree with you 100%, the meanest reviews I have are from goodreads authors and goodreads policy allows that s if a reviewer says something that is not in the book and you make a comment clarifying the error, goodreads deletes it...so a reviewer can be malicious and goodreads does nothing to protect the author, and the author is the backbone of goodreads.

message 62: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Firstly I usually deal with matters such as this privately, but as Susanne has posted on the group thread, I will post on the thread as well.

All accusations of review plagiarism are investigated. No evidence of plagiarism has been found in either of the cases mentioned on this thread. Just similar options of the same book.

Fellow authors are more likely to pick up on craft issues more than the average reader, but that is to be expected. By joining these groups you ask for honest opinions from fellow authors. They may be somewhat more critical, but are also better qualified to recognise excellent writing when they see it.
Other groups on goodreads only allow 'positive' reviews, I think that cheapens the process.

Most of us have all received poor reviews, including every mod in the group. They sting. But they are an opinion of a product, not you. They show your book is being widely read. You CANNOT please everyone all of the time. All four and five star reviews on a book are often considered suspicious by readers.

By dropping out, because of a poor review, you are also letting down the four authors that you are due to review, which you agreed to do when you joined the group. Not completing your obligations to fellow authors results in being blacklisted from the group so you cannot let down fellow authors again.

message 63: by Melonie (new)

Melonie Purcell | 69 comments Emma, I can pick up one of her dropped reviews. I'm almost done with the one I'm reading now, so I'm ahead of schedule. Just tell me which one.

message 64: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments That's a lovely offer Melanie, but all the people Susanne was due to review are reviewing you, which would would result in reciprocal reviews.
The people who miss out, if a stand in doesn't come forward will be able to put their book on the one for one list to pick up that lat review.

message 65: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I have had a very generous offer from Dan Gillis to take over Susanne's spot.
The only clash is that Kim has already reviewed his book so she wouldn't be able to review him.

To get around this little glitch, I will be adding Dan's book to the one for one list and I'd ask Kim to pick any book from that list to review so that everyone gives are receives 4 non-reciprocal reviews.

K.A. as you have already reviews Susanne's book, you are not obliged to review Dan's (because that would mean you would be doing 5 reviews). If you don't have time to fit it in, let me know and I'll add a x2 for Dan.

Round of applause for out intrepid volunteer reviewer! Dan, take a bow.

I'll add your book details to this thread and the one to one thread.

message 66: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Well, look what has happened overnight! Sorry I wasn't here to deal with everything, but thank you Emma for stepping in - probably appropriate, since it was my review that caused the problem.

Yes, when you join this group, you agree to accept whatever review you get. I don't like giving poor reviews, and I don't do it a lot, but I also feel obligated to be honest. This is a site for Readers, and it's to them I'm giving my opinion.

Thanks, Dan, for stepping in. I'm in the middle of the fourth book and it shouldn't take me too long, it's going along quickly, so I'll have time to read yours.

Hopefully everyone else has time to get things re-sorted out without extra reading.

message 67: by Dan (new)

Dan Gillis | 59 comments I am glad to help out. I will send out emails to the authors today, and I am looking forward to reading the books from this round.

I know exactly what you mean. But, you should seriously give yourself a hand. I normally would not have liked a book like yours that is set so firmly in the real world. Actually, I would have hated it. It's just not to my thing. But your story and characters were so engaging, I couldn't help but fall into your trap. Well done!!! I hope I conveyed that in the review.

Kim | 15 comments thank you Scott for your review of Path Unchosen :)

Emma asked me to choose a title from the one-to-one review list to replace the book by Suzanne which was removed. I have chosen and requested a book called Haylee and the Travellers Stone. I've not yet heard back from Lisa, so for this round I have read and reviewed my second book which is the legacy of Argent.

I'll read Haylee as soon as I get it, until then I'll continue with my round three and round four books.

Here are the links for my review of The legacy of Argent - which I did enjoy :-)
