Creating Book Workshops

Book workshops are a way to teach and inform people of the content in your books as a way to better connect with them and get them interested in your work. It seems it's more for non-fiction authors but fiction authors can do it too.

Has anyone ever created a book workshop for their books? Is it a good practice? I did one for Opium Warfare last year but it failed miserably as I didn't go about promoting it as well as I could have. I'm still open to doing one as it seems interesting but I need some info and examples of success with it.

Is this an offline or online workshop?

I, personally, plan to pitch to readers/reviewers. I will send a SparkPage around containing the cover, blurb and a couple of funny/sexy passages.

Online, I didn't consider offline although I suppose it works for that too if you know enough people or have a blooming book community.

Ooh like a book event you mean? Like on Facebook? I've been to a few.. they weren't that entertaining and I usually left pretty quickly.. But that's just me..

No that's an event, I mean a book workshop lol. I believe they're different.

Do you mean teaching aspiring authors how to write? Or would your workshop be a place for people to read what they've written, and critique what others have written?
