Nathan Bush | 233 comments Hello fellow writing junkies.

I'm Nathan and I write in the crime fiction genre. I would only slightly consider my work mystery, since the 'who dunnit' factor is revealed from the beginning. While the story unfolds you follow the detectives as they figure it out, sometimes by their wits and the evidence, other times by chance. You also get a glimpse into the mind of the 'dunniter' and see what makes them tick like a timebomb.

My book(s) are done in 1st person with 2 POVs (pro and antagonist). My debut novel also had a narrator overtone to add some extra knowledge for the reader, which I may also employ in future works, as the need arises, or I feel so inclined.

So glad to be a part of SIA. Looking forward to some interesting discussion, when I have the time to join in. Hit me up with any questions you may have.

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hi Nathan, welcome! The 'dunniter' made me laugh. Nice way of saying it.

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 494 comments Duniter definitely! If it isn't a word it should be!! Lol Hi Nathan!!!

message 4: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Bush | 233 comments Thanks, glad to be here. I've decided that 'killer' is soooo overused, therefore I needed something new and unique, hence 'dunniter'. Maybe I should copyright it before it catches on. I might make more $$ off of it than my books, bwahahaha.

*rubs hands together while smirking, and counting his piles of cash*

Amie O'Brien | 189 comments Ha ha! I'll be adding "dunniter" to my list of words I use to drive my friend crazy. It will work nicely with "might could" ;)

Keeping names straight is difficult for me, but I sometimes get it right

*gets out broom to clean up confetti*

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments Hi Nathan and welcome! If we know who the antagonist is from the beginning, isn't it a thriller? Just my two cents. Happy to have you with us and love thriller/crime fiction!

message 14: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Bush | 233 comments Hey Nat,
Thanks

I called it a thriller on another, now defunct writing site, and got blasted by a reviewer who said he wanted to read a thriller and found mine quite lacking in the "thrill" part. That was, however, the first draft, so it reads much different now. I may add thriller back to the tags, though.

BTW, there's a 12 chapter preview if you want to see what its about and tell me if you think its worthy of being called a thriller

That's a legit preview!! I don't know jack squat about thrillers but gonna read it anyway hahaha...

*wry grin*

Oh wow. Well, I don't know then! I get tired of the very short passages and scene jumping in thrillers. They try to build tension, but it just overloads my brain and forces me to put the book down for another one that keeps with one character for a bit longer.

12 chapters! That is a mighty preview!

message 17: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Bush | 233 comments @ Annie

I know it seems like a lot for a preview, but with it being a dual 1st person POV and having an occasional narrator, I wanted to make sure readers got a glimpse of how the entire book went. And 12 chapters is small compared to the 90+ chapters the book covers

@ Nat

Mine sorta does the same, the chapters are somewhat short and are divided between my two main characters

Do you have any coffee? I seem to be all out.

*stands with hands in pockets, whistling, looking over your shoulder while you're trying to work*

No hurry.

Nathan Bush | 233 comments *hands pause over the keyboard*
*looks over shoulder*

Oh, hey Dwayne! Didn't hear you come in. Guess I'm still a little outta sorts from all that blood.

Sure.

*nods head toward kitchen*

There's always a fresh pot on the counter, I can't work without it. Help yourself.

*takes large gulp from the mug on the desk, resumes typing*

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments Nathan wrote: "Mine sorta does the same, the chapters are somewhat short and are divided between my two main characters "

Oh, well... hmm, I give you supportive thumbs up no matter what!

Yeah, this book I was reading was about three or four paragraphs per scene, then it jumped. I just got tired. And I know it's a method lots of authors use.

message 21: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Bush | 233 comments I see the problem with it there. I wouldn't want to read that way either. At least mine has between 3-7 pages per chapter.

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments Nathan wrote: "I see the problem with it there. I wouldn't want to read that way either. At least mine has between 3-7 pages per chapter."

That's fine then! You can sink into the scene and follow the character then. I give you thumbs up for this! :)

These are really nice. Are they expensive?

*crash*

Oh, I bet you didn't like that one, anyway. Say, I was here to return the coffee. But, I don't have any with me. Um... tea bag? We only used it three times.

message 28: by Jane (new)

Jane Jago | 1015 comments And while I'm here I may as well clear up after Dwayne.

Bad Dwayne. Go to your bed!

I think I made that one for my mom when I was in kindergarten.

Thanks, but I prefer coffee, so it's a good thing I always keep some hot and ready. You're welcome to some of the grains when I'm finished with them, if you like. THEY were only used once.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 71 comments Ah... Nathan, I see Jane's feet have made it onto your thread. I suppose that's the advantage of feet, they can walk into all sorts of places.

Crime thrillers - oh goody, goody (sorry, I'm English). Pleased to see your fruitless years are behind you ;o)
