Leiah Cooper (leiahingolden) | 332 comments How about we turn back the clock to the very beginnings of Urban Fantasy? To those goddesses and gods who said, "Let There Be LIFE!" and what we recognize as Urban Fantasy was born.

My recommendation would have to be Dreams Underfoot (Newford, #1) by Charles de Lint the first in the Newford series.

OK, so now that is over with, wonderous jewels to add to your TBR file - the beginnings of UF . . . well, as we know it today, and some people might argue that the genre is older than that, but this is my excuse and I am sticking with it!

The Wood Wife by Terri Windling by Terri Windling

War for the Oaks by Emma Bull by Emma Bull

Jack the Giant-Killer Jack of Kinrowan Book 1 by Charles de Lint by Charles de Lint

Ellen Datlow is a wonderful anthology editor, and her own works can be found within her anthologies. Snow White, Blood Red by Ellen Datlow is the first in a six book anthology of "twisted" fairy tales - not your children's bedtime stories!

My suggestion is A Hidden Fire (Elemental Mysteries, #1) by Elizabeth Hunter

A Hidden Fire is the first book in Elizabeth Hunter's "Elemental Mysteries" series and it's free!! (I've searched through the group's book shelf and it's not listed so I'm assuming that although this book was published back in 2011 you guys haven't read it yet)

Skin Games is one that I will "read" on Audible.com recording. I have certain series that I only listen to, as the narrators truly draw me in to the books!

Jule | 27 comments I have just finished the jim butcher series so I have just started skin games wow. I will be reading this in June.hope it is picked so as to be able to see everyone's comments.

message 31: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments Jim Butcher's "Skin Games" was absolutely awesome, I agree a definite must read, the only problem with using it for this discussion is the series it is in must be read in order, if someone has not read the previous books, they will be so lost. Wouldn't it be better to pick a first in series book, maybe something like "Sparrow Hill Road" ;-). Just my two cents.

I would have to agree, Joseph. I am working my way back through the series to catch up with happenings, so I am not out of sync with "Skin Games" - I always do that before I read the latest in any series....

Skin Games is o..."

I have the series all on audio but I have to finish the other series I am in before I can start a new one. I am glad that the audio version is good. I think this might be a summer listen.
